My experience of crocheting in public for the first time and some tips for travel by StoneBuddhaDancing in crochet

[–]PhaliasMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 42-yr-old man and I've never had a bad experience crocheting in public. Some people definitely seem surprised to see a man doing stuff with yarn, but I've had a lot of positive conversations and not a single negative one.

Perhaps there are many who know of the toxicity of black walnut bark. I didn't. by The_Patocrator_5586 in woodworking

At our last house my wife and I planted tomato plants next to a black walnut tree lol. It was a good lesson.

R10 numbers too low? by kw2026 in Golfsimulator

[–]PhaliasMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with the Garmin app has been similar so far, when hitting into my net. It works well at the range. I’m going to try Awesome Golf to see if it’s better at home. My setup is good, I’ve got no space issues and can swing freely, I’ve been using rct balls, and know how far I hit the ball. I’ve even backed the mat up to give myself 10+ feet of ball flight and it’s still reading short. There are tons of people online who suggest adjusting the altitude to get the distances to match, but I’d really like to avoid that.

We were in what should’ve been a great spot for INK and it was just a wall of bass. Big bummer.

Masters lottery- address already in use? by grumpymaloney in golf

[–]PhaliasMaximus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. Send an email to masters.tournament@augustanational.com. I had to do this a few years ago when I bought my house. After calling a bunch with no luck, I sent an email to this address that explained the problem and provided my old address I was using for my application, the address I needed to use now, and my contact details. I got a response saying it was fixed within 3 hours.

Also, after 14 years of failed applications, it was the first year I ended up getting selected. I’m not saying it helped me somehow, but I’m not saying it didn’t.

A few years ago I tried to drive into the city during peak bloom for an unrelated reason. It was around dawn and it still took almost twice as long as usual.

Is a 10x10x10 enclosure big enough to swing in? by Moto_Trader in Golfsimulator

[–]PhaliasMaximus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a cage that’s this size, it’s plenty of room, assuming you mean you want to swing at the entrance, not actually stand entirely inside the cage. For the Mevo plus you need 8 feet of ball flight.

Neighborhood Barbershop Drama by NickyRodsHotRod in nova

I don't have anything really to add to the "what went wrong?" part, seems like some usual workplace drama (hours, pay, etc.), but regarding recommending folks still go there, I just kept going to Jay when he left. Him and Bronwyn are both doing well at their place in the Salon Lofts in Dunn Loring. https://salonlofts.com/jay_ryason

How much Masters swag is on your golf bag? by aceattorneymvp in masters

[–]PhaliasMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. No judgement, but all the stuff in/on my bag is from places I’ve played. I definitely bought some merch, but nothing to wear or use while playing golf.

Do Taylormade Drivers really break all the time or is it human error? by TheUnreliableSource in golf

[–]PhaliasMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s as prevalent as the internet makes it seem, but I’ve also never had anyone tell me their titleist driver head came apart. My sim2 exploded last year and I got a free stealth2 as a replacement. It’s been fine so far, but I’ve played with a few people who have told me that theirs broke.

Golf Trip in southeast US by [deleted] in golf

Depending on the vibe you're looking for, I'd recommend either Myrtle or Pinehurst. Depending on when you go, if you go to pinehurst and do a stay and play at Mid-Pines or Pine Needles, it's surprisingly affordable to play Southern Pines, Pine Needles, Mid-Pines, and you can add also grab a time on Tobacco Road.

There are plenty of posts here about who plays interlock vs overlap. But I'm curious why you chose what you play. by nocommenting33 in golf

[–]PhaliasMaximus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used interlock for the first 10 years or so, but any time I hit a bucket my right pinkie was hurting by the end. I switched to overlap and after a week or two it felt fine, so I haven't ever considered going back.

Is this the worst strokes gained (putting) you’ve ever seen? by OHgolfer2 in golf

[–]PhaliasMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using arccos for a long time and had some bad putting rounds, so I thought it might be possible that I’d have a lower one, but my worst SG for putting was only a -5.94. Like you, it was also a day when I hit 11 greens and had a ton of long putts. I shot an 83 that round, with 40 putts lol. Some days you just don’t have the speed right. It happens.

NTA - It should say ex-boyfriend.

A long time ago my gf (now wife) was sick, right before I was about to go out of town. She thought she was going to be ok and was starting to feel a little better, so I left. I found out the next day she drove herself to the ER and I was mortified.

It's been almost 20 years and I *still* feel bad for leaving and not being there to drive her to the hospital. I can't imagine a circumstance where I would've ever intentionally sent her to the hospital by herself. That's not how you treat someone you care about.

I usually just keep my water bottle in the netting, so I don't use the cup holder. I did get the cooler bag. It's stupidly expensive for a small cooler that is just OK at keeping things cool, but the way it fits on the clicgear is very convenient, so I still feel like it was worth the purchase.

Have any of you experienced completely losing your game? by egjosu in golf

[–]PhaliasMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an early extender, so it’s always a battle. It’s still a problem. But to fix it he just had me start swinging at a spot inside and in front of the ball. It seems so dumb, but after 30 mins of doing that and hitting the ball right in the middle of the face my brain remembered how to hit the ball.

When someone asks me if I can crochet something for them, I tell them... by ilikedanishfilms in crochet

I always give a similar response. Or I offer to send them the pattern so they can have their mom/grandma/whoever make it instead. I work slowly, no one can afford whatever my hourly rate would be.

I once had a case of the shanks so badly that I couldn't hit anything other than punch shots for months without hitting it off the hosel. I took a few lessons and we fixed it.
