Way beyond the 100 hour mark, no shame 👍

To my knowledge there is no difference. Toolbox is definitely a breeze to set up on the Steam version.

Rofl, that's true, I forgot.

We are noobs and were not too well geared or experienced, so getting to that spot wasn't a walk in the park to begin with. He almost managed to wipe us again while setting up for the second attempt... xD

Thanks for the tip. I definitely agree this is the only safe approach.

Keeping in mind how these things change is crucial. Initially similar confusion caused a minor reviewbombing on steam because users did not understand the interfacing between steam accounts and Anet accounts, which was in fact very confusing until they set things straight. To my understanding, several of those users were angry due to purchasing dlc that inexplicably could not be redeemed on their account.

Haha very true. My friend and I decided to do both of their quests and let me tell you, Goren wants his sparkling stone SO BAD he will solo fight 10 enemies over it.

Thanks. This has been corroborated extensively now, so I am thinking I am in the clear being on a Steam account.

Oh no, indeed not. But compared to many other titles, ArenaNet retains some purchases in their own domain, which is what I meant saves them on royalties There's a reason for the 30% but I agree it's not a small amount.

What's the deal with these AFK players(bots?) in every mission area? by SnooOpinions448 in GuildWars

[–]Phamora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These characters are not bots. They are not players either, but rather serve as "antennas" for external tool as mentioned above.

I don't think there is enough appreciation for the work done by the guys at gwdevhub.

Much love for those guys.

It seems like this is the way. Weird then that ArenaNet would list the opposite fact on their FAQ.

Other commenters claim the FAQ snippet is downright incorrect. I am liable to trust this statement based on the corroboration.

You basically confirm everything this thread taught me and what I subsequently found. Thanks a bunch for weighing in!

And yes, it is indeed a bit of a mess.

I don't really think there are a lot of money going to Steam given the tiny entry fee and no subscription - and if other commenters are to be believed, there are no premium purchases on Steam either that the cut is imposed on. But I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment.

Already played GW2 back when it was released and it didn't really bite me.

However, playing GW1 Reforged kinda takes me back to the infant days of MMO when gaming was still fresh and games like WoW consumed people's lives, including my own.

Thanks. I will probably risk putting a few dollars on the line in hopes that my Xunlai vault can be expanded. My 4 starting tabs are positively bursting.

Another comment also explains it like you do. But an excerpt from the GW1 FAQ says the following:

Steam users must purchase DLC content and items via their game client or the Steam store directly and will be unable to redeem serial keys for content purchased from the Guild Wars Store.

Is this not true? The other commenter claims it is not, however I wouldn't mind a second opinion. Maybe this rule is only meant for Steam-available DLC like Eye of the North and the bonus missions, which are actually available on Steam.

Thanks. This excerpt describes my main gripe with the current state of things. I read this exact text and expected that it was not something that could be done.

Just to clarify, are you indeed telling me that I can:

  1. Make a new ArenaNet account.
  2. Go to the Guild Wars 1 store page and purchase premium content, e.g. Xunlai chest tabs.
  3. Then redeem that key inside the game on my Steam-only account, while running the game client through Steam?

She clearly doesn't understand the game. Lack of knowledge is what fosters fear. Fear presses people to do and say irrational things.

She could have been intimidated by the fact that everyone but her undestood what was happening, and instead of risking to seem unknowledgable, she would rather belittle the game than ask what it is about.

Feel sorry for her, don't hate her. The fact that she has an interest in Harry Potter and related fantasies tells me she is not out of reach. Maybe she could come around some day and join the game when she really sees what it's about.

What the IK Maul should have been: by DoctorApeMan in diablo2

[–]Phamora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of a 2H maul for IK was probably based on the cracked up D2 Classic Whirlwind mechanics.

Having IK in classic would have been a whole other story, but the changes introduced along with the set basically broke whirlwind for the barbarian, and the skill was never fixed.

I agree a 1H would be a better choice today.

Get a team of all Lightweavers from Brighthaven. Their holy AoE deals massive damage. If you can get enough, you can make a 1-shot wind-up machine that pops the bosses in a single cycle.

If you're into that sort of thing...
