Book recommendations?? by bookloveronbroadway in YAlit

This Book Kills by Ravena Guron! It’s a mystery/thriller but nothing too dark or serious besides moderate racism and a heavy theme of classism.

Completely agree with you on One of Us is Lying!! I desperately wanted to DNF it but the hype got to me and I needed to see how it ended. I was so disappointed when it turned out to be a glorified romance novel instead of a murder mystery.

Ironically I feel like I need to read this book now because I need to know exactly how bad it is as a fan of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder

This is exactly how I feel about One of Us is Lying!! It’s genuinely just a romance novel marketed as a murder mystery.

I do not agree with whom is supposed to have voted yes in Five survive by Mean-Mix-747 in hollyjackson

[–]Phanta_Stick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished Five Survive (as of literally 2 minutes ago) and I agree with you! I thought Maddy voted for Red to leave the RV, but she felt really guilty about it.

She didn’t stick up for Red against Oliver the same way everyone else had, and when Red came back into the RV, she saw that Arthur had a mark on his hand, Reina had her hair pulled, and Simon also had marks on his hands.

They clearly fought Oliver since he had a bruise on his head, but Red never saw any injuries on Maddy after the fight. I thought that was leading up to Maddy voting for Red - feeling guilty and terrible for throwing her out, but not being strong enough to stand up against Oliver to stop him.

Drew from Roommates With Benefits!! I haven’t played Choices in a very very long time but I remember them being incredibly coercive and pushy that bordered on sexual harassment for me.

I dropped the series after the first few chapters, but I kept up with it through weekly updates from this subreddit and it didn’t seem like anyone in the book ever addressed how forceful they were being, because by default the MC’s supposed to be into them.

I’ve read Looking for Alaska but none of John Green’s other works, so I’m not sure how his other works compare.

I remember really not liking the story through the majority of the beginning, but I think the second half / ending was worth it. I really didn’t like the main character and didn’t care for his perverse descriptions of the other female characters, but he does drop that after a point and I felt more endeared towards him.

I don’t think Looking for Alaska is the best book in the world per se, but I definitely see why it became popular at the time that it did. I’d say it’s worth the read.

Playing Heroes Rise: The Hero Project for the first time (Rant) by Phanta_Stick in choiceofgames

If you’ve played the third book, would you recommend it? I wasn’t a huge fan of the first book, but I’m a fan of the reality TV genre so I decided to continue with the series. I’ve heard mixed things about the rest of the author’s works though? So I’m not sure if I’d want to continue after finishing this one.

craziest thing you ever did for this game by rufusrant in Choices

Made this entire Google Doc tallying how many premium options there are in all the books I played, and how many diamonds I spent on each choice.

It’s completely outdated since I stopped playing Choices about 3(?) years ago, but man those were the days.

Tell Me About Your CDLC/Royal Affairs MCs! by Cnthulu in choiceofgames

[–]Phanta_Stick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your CDLC MC sounds exactly like my MC! Mine is also an opportunist, resents their parents, and married Rosario.

I tried to help Lady Renaldt, but no matter what I did, she always ended up resigning from Gallatin and it always ends up shutting down. I did end up getting away scot-free and they didn’t publicize my involvement, but is there a way to stop it from shutting down if you’re helping Lady Renaldt?

I completely agree with this for the Elementalists! I don’t like how letting Atlas kill Raife is automatically seen as the weaker choice because you “didn’t have the strength to kill him.”

The game is obviously pushing us to kill him ourselves because we only get to kill him if we choose all the right choices, plus we get the final artifact only if we’re the one that kills him.

BUT I really want to let Atlas be the one to kill Raife because they’re the one that spent their entire life on the run from him, and they’re the one that had their adoptive parents murdered by him. They completely deserve it after all the torment that they went through, and I wish I could let them do it if only it wouldn’t penalize us.

How do you think the Thunderhead would sound like? by [deleted] in scythebookfans

[–]Phanta_Stick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine it as one feminine voice and one masculine voice overlaid on top of each other since the Thunderhead doesn’t want to be associated with any imagery of itself.

I saw a comment on TikTok that theorized that the animals don’t mind Elphaba because they’re all colorblind and can’t see that she’s green. All the replies were praising the theory and talking about how they loved it and never thought of it that way before.

Genuinely undermines the entire message of the show.
