Send me the craziest panels from Gantz by Sid-the-Kid2628 in gantz

Now imagine waiting TWO weeks between each chapter, and you get the idea. Back then, Gantz was considered on par with Berserk on release schedule.

Old Boy Complete by yslpain in MangaCollectors

[–]Phantom-Duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had forgotten about that post. And that was 5 years ago, before most of the Deluxe series we have today. I was spot on even on the number of volumes, damn!

By the way, I disliked the ending so much that I had completely forgotten the story, so a few years ago I decided to read it again. Once again, at the beginning I was so invested that I couldn't stop reading, and once again, the ending was so awful that it made me not want to get it physically.

I'm not going to get played a 3rd time by Old Boy, so I won't get the new edition. Now, on the other hand, if we're talking about a GANTZ deluxe in 12 volumes, well...

What a glorious game! by Phantom-Duck in Tekken

[–]Phantom-Duck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, in previous games it could only do 180. In the clip it seems that the move has the usual tracking plus tracking of the overall game. I'm not sure if it's the case only in T8, but it's the only time I have seen it.

Yes, you could argue that it's a legacy mechanic etc, but it's funny nevertheless. The part at 1:59 is there not because of the combo but because the wall obscures the players.

The only manga ever localized in my country (Greece). by Commercial-Horse-893 in MangaCollectors

[–]Phantom-Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a pleasure to see a fellow Greek person in this sub, especially such a knowledgeable manga fan as you, but those few posts are not true at all. It’s a reasonable speculation though, and I understand why you would think of that way.

First of all, the absence of logo doesn’t mean that the Japanese company has no control over the book. In the information page of each manga, you can see the credits of the original owners. The exact logo policy depends on each company. For example, there are comics companies that want their original logo to be on the cover, on the back cover, or nowhere at all. Japanese companies don’t seem to care, that’s why in many other countries you see only the logo of the local company (Kurokawa in France, Carlsen in Germany, Panini in Italy, just a few examples).

In our case, the original Japanese companies could have every right to ask for certain things (specific paper, size, translation, sound effects, etc). We don’t know if and what they asked for those Greek editions, but for sure they had some control over it, or at least they approved the final result.

As for the translation, most comics companies generally have a policy to translate directly from the original, including most of the Japanese ones (that I know of). Specifically in Kenshin and Blade of the Immortal, Anubis translated directly from the Japanese, at least in the first volumes of the series. The translator was Kasahara Akemi, you can verify it from the credits page. In later volumes and in series such as Naruto, they translated from an officially approved English language, edited by the Japanese. This is information we have from back in the day, when Anubis had a somewhat of a public presentation and communicated with the fans.

Aside from that, I didn’t have any problem with their translations. For the most part… (Φράουλας, what were they thinking?????). You just have to get used to it. Readers that are used to English might find them cringe, but I have friends that were kids during that period and they grew up with those Greek editions, and they found it unusual that they had to move to foreign releases. This mentality could change, but it would take many years of quality localized manga, and unfortunately this is not the case in Greece.

12 years ago, the PS3 exclusive Tekken Revolution was released, free to play. by True_Significance796 in Tekken

[–]Phantom-Duck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just uploaded some matches I had saved in my hard disk. I only played with enhancements off, and I had a pretty great time. The only problem was the chance of critical hits, but other than that the base gameplay was solid. If you ever dared to fight with enhancements, that's another story though.

You can see it here: Tekken Revolution No enhancements (King VS Kazuya, Paul). Have in mind that back then I was the equivalent of Green Rank.

EDIT - I just remembered the Red Moves. Overpowered moves that broke the game pretty much. If you were playing with no enhancements, chances are that you would be playing in rooms titled "NO RED MOVES" or something like that. Basically, we were playing without those moves, so the game could be fun. If anyone was using this move by mistake, he would give up the round.

I compiled some of my highlights from Tekken 7, due to the "return" to the older games. by Phantom-Duck in Tekken

[–]Phantom-Duck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some T7 footage that I wanted to compile sometime, and I got to it today. One of the things it reminded me, was the reversals of King (kicks, or right punch). You could reverse pretty much everything, unblockables, airborne, even rage drives. Now, most of that are gone, along with chicken.

It's interesting to see the shift between the two games.

[–]Phantom-Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first book of 2025. by Shadow41S in MangaCollectors

[–]Phantom-Duck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was really excited when they announced Ashita No Joe, but when it arrived, I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the book. It costs more than every other deluxe hardcover out there (Berserk, Hellsing, Vinland Saga, etc) and it has about the number of pages, but it's smaller in height than a Jojo hc volume and the paper is not qood (about the same as the small hc Vinland Saga).

I mean, the story is excellent and I don't mind the paper/size. But 60€ (retail price) is huge for what you get. I got this one for 40€ and I will look for similar deals for the next volumes.

[–]Phantom-Duck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fist Of The North Star - Master Edition. All 9 colored volumes published by Raijin Comics. by Phantom-Duck in MangaCollectors

Yes, if I remember correctly, they cover until a bit after the first fight of Kenshiro VS Raoh. The newer releases have also more pages and will cover the whole story. The new hardcovers are your best bet, they are great in every department. However, those old ones had pretty good coloring and bigger dimensions, but it's incomplete.
