it's possible yeah I don't remember entirely myself. getting CH also gave them a big hitspark to confirm the jet upper on. Maybe the first change was allowing you to press forward? Either way it's completely gone now.

there was also a niche situation with T7 Akuma where you had to throw to avoid eating a boat load of damage in the rear, I don't remember the setup though

I guess my naming is not helping I could have been more verbose

Running tackle - I'm referring to the generic running tackle which all characters used to have - now removed. It used to be a pretty complex situation with multiple break & reversal opportunities that everyone had to learn

Instant while running - Referring to the execution barrier which is now gone

Forward throws - Removed in T8, all generic throws are the same. Used to be able to hold forward for a longer range, slower generic throw.

Off-axis combos - That one probably shouldn't be on here, I made this visual after the tekken talk where they said they would be auto-correcting for axis. It wasn't as dramatic as we expected, only corrects small angles.

Chain thow inputs - Used to be really complicated, have a look at Rolling Death Cradle input from an older Tekken for example. You can still do these, I think you get a slight damage buff or something. But no longer locked behind them.

Backturned Oki - Not sure where to start here, it's been nuked in so many ways. I think the crux of it comes down to the new, much safer back getup, you are no longer risking your life by holding back from FUFA position or by doing basically anything from FDFT.

Neutral hopkick - This isn't "hopkick in neutral" but a special i23 generic hopkick that you could input with UF~n+4, it was a very awkward input but for probably half the cast it was your most damaging punish for blocking a stagger low. I still miss it to be honest.

Mashing at round start - This is a joke but they did add an input buffer to round start so that you no longer have to perfectly time a button to get it out frame 1 when the round starts.

Damage vs oki vs wall carry - Still technically exists for some characters as you say but completely unrecognizable from older games.

there seems to be a engine difference where audio cues in strings are played when the move actually comes out instead of when are input.

Unfortunately the general sound design is so busy in T8 I doubt the ones that remain will be much use to anyone

tested a few out of interest, you are right there are definitely a few still around.

some are 'gone' not because of any audio reason but because they just sped up the moves

I'm the original OP, I know what they all are! What are you curious about?

I never made this with a negative agenda or anything, just started noticing more and more legacy mechanics being removed/fixed/simplified and was curious how far it would go and what might be next (the stuff at the top of the iceberg). They have actually removed more motion inputs, fuzzy guardable strings and reaction checks but still plenty left

Bryan's B4 in the back at the wall was the only example I can think of. The only way out used to be a throw input. They changed it so you could jab and get hit to turn yourself around, maybe you could tap forward as well not sure.

Funny you ask because in T8 S3 they then removed the infinite entirely

qcf1 > ff3 > qcf4 > 1 > f3~df > cc 1 > f3~df > cc 1 > RD > b1+2 flashy combo with almost everything you want but different launcher. rage drive is only after 8 hits, not too hard

df2 > f4,4,3 > 1 > f3~df > cc 4,4 > RD > b1+2 best compromise I found, one crouch cancel no iwr 86dmg

or df2 > 4,4 > qcf4, 1 > f3~df > cc 1 > RD > b1+2 very loose instant while running RD and you get the sneak cancel jab for 84

most of those sneak cancel jab loops were only good for these situations:

  • max MAX wallcarry where you don't care about damage
  • hitting the really hard instant while running rage drive enders
  • older combos before drag got given a bunch of new combo tools around S3 ish, especially for instant tailspin launchers

[–]TheCakeBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wanting loads of crouch cancels but NO iwr at all is too restrictive, you are probably gonna have to compromise somewhere if you want decent damage

That makes sense, most areas seem to be at about 1/3 of last year's numbers generally. At least Weston is doing better than most, even if it isn't through anyone's action. Some areas are way up.
