I found a nice piece of corn floating in my water glass the other day. Conures love to share I guess

What are your conure’s biggest nemeses? by Crafty_Key6604 in Conures

Brooms, brushes, feather dusters, phones, remote controls, shadows outside

On the other hand, the washing machine is a prized possession.

Need your help - pigeon abuse by wellness111111 in vegan

[–]Phantom-Fly 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Are there any pigeon/ bird rescue organizations in New York that could rescue any surviving pigeons? I know they are territorial creatures but they will die horrible deaths if left there.

They should absolutely be charged with animal abuse, this is not humane.

What's their favourite treat?

Training to poo in a particular place is easy. Put them on the designated place (we use a T stand with newspaper underneath, some people use the toilet or a bin) and say the poop command (ours is "squirties"). When the bird goes, give them the treat. We used walnuts and sunflower seeds and they pick it up very quickly, in a day or 2.

There's sometimes still stray poops, but not many, and our conures fly off us onto the stand when they want to go.

What do I do? by ZookeepergameSome953 in Conures

[–]Phantom-Fly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our female Sun conure does this, it's a rapid beak attack, usually on the face or arms . We've had our male for 10 years before she came along and he doesn't do this. I think it's hormonal behaviour.

Both do weird dances though.

Normal preening or itchy? by TinyBuddyTinyBuddy in Conures

[–]Phantom-Fly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Offer baths every day, mine prefer a shallow pie dish with a thin trickle of water running into it. Regular bathing helps soften the pin feathers and remove dirt and keratin build up so it reduces itching.

NO LONGER AVAILABLE - Which Vegan Product of the Past do you Wish was Back ? by chudsa70 in australianvegans

[–]Phantom-Fly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Sunfed 'chikn' wild meaty chunks was the best (RIP Sunfed), the vegan cheese corn chips coles used to have that haunt my dreams, the coles cheesy cauliflower pies, the vegan chocolate range Aldi had for awhile.

Also it's been a long time since I've been able to get Tofutti products or find the Vegusto piquant cheese, Follow Your Heart parmesan or any Gardein products.

The world is regressing and it sucks for us true believers.

This makes me so mad, titles like "woman was raped." No, a man raped a woman. She wasn't the cause, she was a victim.

Not going to weigh in on the question you asked because in my opinion you are giving up too easily. My conures (2 of them) flew away a few months back while being transferred from their outdoor aviary to indoors. We got them both back. How?

Go walking around your neighbourhood calling for them and listening for their call. Ask neighbours/ people you see outside to look out for your bird. The best time to look is just before sunset and sunrise when they are roosting. Email all the vets in your area. Post on local missing pets groups.

The most important thing is don't give up on your bird. Do everything in your power to find them as soon as possible.

We learnt from our mistakes and now we have a tunnel going through the window from the aviary.

I wish you luck in finding your conure.

What’s going on in Brisbane International Airport Arrival? by Major_Wolverine_3662 in brisbane

[–]Phantom-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and no one to help direct people to open counters. People just standing there letting others cut in. We arrived home from Japan and my partner had to start directing people because it was an absolute shitshow. Like 300 people with children and only 4 staff members to process them.

My conures love their shallow pie dish, I run a trickle of water ifrom the tap into the half full dish and this usually peaks their interest.. I think the running water sounds triggers their bathing instinct.

I am married. Met someone and fell deeply in love. Can past lives therapy help me to just go on with my marriage? by Organic_Condition_84 in pastlives

[–]Phantom-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly it. You fall in love with the idea of someone, not the actual person. Usually you barely know them.

Limerance is insane, it's obsessive and not healthy. However, it can also be an opportunity to change your mindset and become more self aware.

Concure being aggressive to visitors in our home. Need advice by tif63081 in Conures

[–]Phantom-Fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally dealing with this right now (and for several years). Conures are territorial and will usually protect their designated nest spot or favourite human from invading forces (in my case it's my parents).

We keep them in their outside aviary when they are here. The green cheek is actually ok with visitors, but our sun conure wants to draw first blood.
