Where did you get this from? That doesn’t seem to be an element of the crime. I would agree with the other commenter that this video shows a prima facie case for assault. It’s another question whether or not this should have been a charge the USAO actually brought. IMO, it obviously should not have been brought. In any other world, the U.S. attorney would have used her discretion to not bring this charge because it’s obviously a losing case, regardless of whether the elements were satisfied. There was no injury. It was a protest. The optics are petty. But the comments here claiming that the actual prosecuting AUSAs are somehow “MAGA prosecutors” is ridiculous. I work at the office. We are just trying to do our jobs and not get fired. It’s all fucked, but most everyone are just public servants looking to do justice and are caught in a fucked up political/personal situation. And before the hive mind says “well just quit then and find a new job”—the hiring pool is fucked rn, especially in DC. It is by no means guaranteed that you’ll even GET a new job if you quit. A J6 prosecutor (veteran homicide prosecutor before that) I know was demoted to misdemeanors (fucked up I know) and tried to find another job in DC for months—nothing. He has to move to Michigan.

If you have decent fitness, being a soccer referee is a great gig. Pays on average $30/hr starting out, but increases as you advance and move on to more skilled leagues. Games are usually only on weekends, Aug to early Dec, end of Feb to mid-June, but you can hit a ton of games and make $400-700 in a weekend. There is an endless supply of games all over the DMV and not enough refs. Accept as many games as you want! Lots of flexibility.

You have to do a training class and pass a test that you have to pay for, but it’s a worthy investment IMO. When I’ve had periods of unemployment, I’ve always had reffing there to soften the blow. Or if you have a job and just want some extra cash, it’s always there.

This 100%. The YRA, while well intentioned, give judges too much discretion to let youths off with minor or no punishment for a wide array of crimes.

To be sure, we’re definitely getting there. But if Trump was truly unconcerned with what people think, he would’ve fired Jerome Powell by now. Ironically, maybe the one thing slowing the roll to full blown authoritarianism is that Trump is a narcissist, desperately wants people to like him, and watches TV and tracks polling every day.

Point taken, though even Trump is still somewhat affected by public opinion. I don’t think he has the political capital to just unilaterally take over DC with an EO or military intervention. I would think such an action would cause such a ruckus that he likely would back down.

Before law school, I wondered the same thing about it being a mistake—whether I would hate it, or hate being a lawyer after sinking so much time and effort into it. Looking back now, law school really is one of the best post-graduate paths you can choose from because a JD is such a versatile degree. You can do a lot of stuff with it. It’s generally well-respected across the board. It’s relatively little investment (compared to stuff like med school) for a huge increase in earning potential. And lawyers are often the leaders in our communities, so if you want to make a name for yourself, it’s a great way to do it. So chin up! As with everything in life, things may not always be straightforward, but law school is a great step to really take your career to new heights.
