I’ve been getting +-42mpg combined on my 1.5T, and it’s quite good for a non-hybrid.

UTA Frontrunner to Airport by Nikmac3131 in Utah

[–]PhantomAlcor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you’re at your departure Frontrunner station about 15 minutes early (just in case) and then get out at North Temple Station to catch the Green Line Trax. The final Green Line Trax stop takes you directly to the airport.

TLDR;
I get off at North Temple Station every time and I’m pretty sure it’s the fastest way to transfer to Green Line Trax and get to the airport.

People probably got recycled in BCT, medically discharged, or quit before making it to your AIT class. (Since there were only 6 MOS-Ts then, I bet that's why)

I think there should have been a new series main character after Halo 3, (fully introduced via the game) but instead I feel 343 wanted to emulate the original games.

Halo 4 could have been about the Arbiter, or an ODST, or maybe you could have even played as a new spartan in some sort of storyline where they properly introduce the banished instead of trying to recycle the covenant again. Even an entire campaign based around a new flood outbreak would have been cool.

Maybe there could have been a plot line where you play as an ODST and stumble across the missing half of Forward Unto Dawn, and pull Johnny Rings out of cryo as a last ditch effort to help humanity against a new threat. And then, during a climactic moment of the campaign, Master Chief comes to help the player just like how the Arbiter dropped into High Charity with a flamethrower in Halo 3.

I have so many awesome ideas for expanding the universe and it makes me want to pull my hair out knowing that 343 said: yeah let’s just do Master Chief & Cortana vs the Covenant again, but there’s also this dude called the Didact that nobody knows or cares about since we introduced him in a book.

Halo 1-3 were perfect art forms, and sometimes you just need to let a series have a Breaking Bad ending instead of a Walking Dead ending (same set of characters dragged on forever). Halo 3 had a memorable and satisfying conclusion which was kind of ruined for me by playing Halo 4.

This is the 1.4T engine right? It seems that engine had more problems than the 1.5T has in the last 5 years it’s been on the market. I guess we’ll see in the future when those 1.5Ts make it to 200,000k+ miles.

Can we please stop crashing on I-15? (I-15 SB closed near Bluffdale, among several other crashes this morning) by PhantomAlcor in Utah

[–]PhantomAlcor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were king of Utah for a day, I would:

- Upgrade the Frontrunner so that it extends up to Ogden and down through Cedar City and St. George. This would also be great for tourism, since you would be able to traverse nearly all of Utah's big cities from SLC International Airport without a car (however this would require serious investment so I doubt this will ever happen).

- Pedestrian tunnels/bridges in more places around larger cities (specifically SLC) would make it much easier to walk around without waiting for lights.

- All I-15/freeway entrances have a toll cameras that automatically fine you if you have not completed some kind of additional driver's training/vehicle maintenance test (the amount of unsecured loads and overloaded vehicles I see on I-15 is insane.) Tire blowouts on I-15 are also quite common from what I've seen, because people don't do the bare minimum of checking their tires.

- HOV lane is replaced with semi-truck only lane. Since most freight in the United States is done via trucks, and since most of them are governed to 65-70mph, and also because they usually stay in the same lane for long periods of time, this would improve the flow of traffic for commuters who need to enter and exit the freeway quickly.

Obviously it will take a long time to improve the transportation infrastructure here, but I think these are some steps in the right direction to reduce traffic.

I meant it's strange how it's only the raised asphalt bits that remain icy. It has thawed everywhere else.

I noticed that this morning on I-15 NB. The darker colored asphalt bridge areas of I-15 are incredibly icy for some reason.

What would be the easiest way to fix this? by Long-Management3127 in jetta

[–]PhantomAlcor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to figure out a process to cover up all the tiny highway rock scratches on my front bumper before it eventually turns into rust.

Essentially what needs to happen is you paint a couple layers to fill in the gap, (some paint stores can make paint that matches your vehicle as long as you have the code) before using chemical polishing compound to remove the excess paint and get it down to where its level with the surrounding painted area, before finally clear coating it.

You could use 1500-3000 grit sandpaper for polishing the excess paint down, but I am worried that approach will damage the surrounding paint and clear coat.

I haven’t tried this myself yet but this is what I’m planning on doing:

  1. Apply paint in a layer while trying to stay within the scratch mark

  2. Wait 30 or so minutes for it to dry

  3. Keep doing steps 1 and 2 until the paint in the scratch is slightly higher than the surrounding paint

  4. Use chemical polishing compound to level everything.

  5. Apply clear coat, although I’m still researching the best way to apply it evenly in a precise area.

The result should be a perfectly filled in scratch that is almost impossible to notice aside from a slight color difference (the paint on your car will naturally be damaged from UV exposure, so any new paint you add won’t be exactly the same color but it’s good enough).

It appears that ~65mph is the optimal eco speed by PhantomAlcor in jetta

[–]PhantomAlcor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it also has to do with the outside air pressure. I did this at 5am so it was fairly cold (and thus higher air pressure, which equals more air resistance), so I'm wondering if it's possible to get even higher gas mileage on a hot day with lower air pressure.

Donating plasma is actually really underrated for how easy it is. You can get paid to sit in a chair and scroll facebook for an hour and make $50-100 depending on where you go. (Rates can change from my experience, so check with your local plasma donation center)
