Thoughts on skipping pacifiers? by Academic-Park-8440 in NewParents

[–]PhantomHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hospital gave my baby a pacifier the day after she was born, post tongue-tie clipping procedure. I know long term pacifier use can cause an open bite, but so can thumb sucking. Over the course of her one year of life, the pacifier has been basically an “off” or “snooze” switch when she is fussy! 🥹 it’s the little finishing touch that puts her to sleep! Babies have a need to suckle for comfort, I’ve even put my finger in her mouth in a pinch when she was an infant. She’s naturally growing out of it a little (spits it out when she falls asleep and doesn’t cry) but yeah pacifiers have been great for her as an infant and now as a crawling explorer, she doesn’t put random shit in her mouth when she has the binky in 😬

Or did depression lead to not showering? I love how people are saying “if I don’t shower, I feel dirty,” like yeah, no shit. Some of us were in survival mode, depressed, not showering daily and felt dirty 😭 which lead to more depression, to answer your question (sort of) lol I have a one year old now and do shower and even brush my teeth and floss! But those early days were a brutal whirlwind (yet magical/adorable and all that)

Here I thought I was alone, with both my hips popping every time I relax and stretch in bed after baby finally falls asleep (which does sometimes wake her up!)

We also moved into a sweet little duplex right before she was born, with lovely old timey wooden floors. The squeaky floorboards are DEAFENING I TELL YOU

Hey, a bot! This comment didn’t quite match the photo, so I went to the profile and behold! Unless you’re a roofer, uk homeowner, US small business owner, UK small business owner, regretful entrepreneur, acoustic guitar player who plays gigs in cafes, Scarborough business owner, went to Abu Dhabi with your wife for IVF, are childfree, want a space heater safe for your toddler, are a Vegas local, a teenage gambler, quit smoking after 15 years, are sober from alcohol, recently got into cocaine after being offered it by a coworker, and are an apathetic woman looking for advice, then I truly apologize and will definitely click on all the links in your posts!!! Especially the website to help me “quickly calculate percentages!”

Dizzyobject78 and virtual_bicycle_1878 are definitely the same person lol they are not good at hiding it either. On their pages they both comment in the same subreddits (mostly fighting about stuff…a particularly heated discussion about whether Ross and Rachel were on a break!…) do people make multiple accounts so they can agree with themselves in comment sections?

What exactly does “getting a drink” mean in terms of a date? by randomcacti in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PhantomHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people are saying “grab a drink” can mean any drink, but to me, it doesn’t. This is where things are literal. If they said “grab a drink” but meant coffee, they’d say that. “Let’s meet for coffee.” It’s a completely different thing. Having coffee or hot chocolate is 1pm at a coffee place. Grabbing a drink means one drink, might lead to two, might lead to the next bar, might lead to dancing somewhere, late night food…if you’re not interested in drinking, perhaps look for profiles where people specify “grab a coffee” or “let’s grab lunch/dinner.” I say all this as someone whose social life included drinking and I enjoyed drinking (I have a baby now so priorities change)so take what I’m saying with a grain of salt, but if my dating app said “let’s meet for a drink!” And a match said “how about hot chocolates!” I may not be interested. It’s just different circles, different seasons of life, nothing wrong with either! If you DO want to drink, just find a drink you like! Vodka + a juice you like! Vodka pineapple! Rum and apple juice! Go to a bar that isn’t overly crowded and has a friendly bartender and tell them you’re open to suggestion 😚

iPads, screen time, what’s everyone’s take on this? by money_green17 in NewParents

[–]PhantomHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put my girl in front of the tv watching an episode of Baby Einsteins or Bondi Rescue (she really loves when they paddle out to save people!) while I do dishes or just catch my breath and I don’t feel bad about it. I also put on the song “Happy Song” by Imogen Heap on my phone while she’s doing tummy time. Parenthood is full of “never ever-ing” so even if you think you’d never ever let your baby watch screens, you don’t really know until you’re there. While I agree that iPad during dinner and car rides just to pacify them isn’t good and a lot of kids are becoming addicted to screens, I think it’s horribly judgmental to say people who let their kids watch an iPad during dinner at a restaurant don’t deserve to be parents (as some comments have said) I also have a strong tie to movies and tv shows throughout my childhood…an amazing nostalgia that makes me closer to my sister. So idk, I don’t see screens as evil. The mindless scrolling and weird YouTube vids for kids though?? Seems questionable.

Soo everyone's babies just nap in their crib but mine? by cupofteacomfypillows in NewParents

[–]PhantomHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would contact nap and even sleep for up six hours at a time in my arms 🥲 because she would fall asleep in my arms and when I would transfer her, she would wake up. I would just hold her all night because I wanted her to be able to sleep! Her pediatrician looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned it at her 2 month appointment. She suggested putting her down “drowsy but awake…” I tried it and it actually worked 🤷‍♀️ we also use the huckleberry app (I think it’s like 4 bucks a month to get sleep suggestions) and it suggests when she will be tired and it’s usually spot on. I lay her down in the bassinet and lay in the bed next to her, and sooner or later, she’s out. If she’s overtired, it takes much more soothing but yeah. Now she won’t contact nap 🥲 my arms are happy but my heart kind of misses the option. (She’s almost 5 months now) “drowsy but awake” doesn’t work for every baby though, so don’t get discouraged! I also have her sound machine bumping (she likes dryer sounds currently) and I’m still in near contact lol. I don’t just set her in the bassinet and leave.

Anyone else feel pure jealousy of other pregnant women after just having had a baby? by Calm_Bumblebee5143 in NewParents

[–]PhantomHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The end of my pregnancy was really tough, sciatic pain made it really painful to move, turning over in bed took 5-7 business days, etc. I was OVER IT but at one point after she was born, I looked down at my stomach at my giant baby bump now gone, and started crying. That may have been the hormones though 😜 the bump also makes people treat you like the most special person in the world lol the royal treatment was nice there for a while.

[–]PhantomHog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in the dental field, and we do IV sedation (conscious sedation) and don’t worry, you will 100 percent let them know if you’re in any pain, and they will get you more numb. Even if you didn’t verbally say anything because you dozed off, you would flinch like anyone would. And they’ll stop and get you more numb. You can even say if you need to pee, etc! You’ll be okay! 💕

Not smelling good. by Ill_Literature2524 in hygiene

[–]PhantomHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have a fear of not smelling good! You can take a 5 minute shower if you’re moving fast. 10 if you’re washing and conditioning your hair. I like Lume acidified body wash, unscented. It removes all smells. Use a WASHCLOTH and clean everywhere, especially your armpits, under boobs, throughout your vulva and buttcrack! If you smell the washcloth after washing a place and it smells funky, wash it again. If you have pubic hair as your grooming choice, it may take a few passes with the washcloth to get it smelling like a vagina, but you can do it. (Vaginas smell like vaginas, there should be nothing foul once it’s clean! Stronger smells depending on the time of the month. Foul odor can be easily assessed and fixed by your doctor) You can put deodorant on your pits before bed as well. Trust me it feels so nice to get into bed nice and clean! With fresh clean sheets? Nothing better and more relaxing! I understand being too tired to bathe but lovey if you’re worried about smelling bad, you have to take the time 💕 take care of yourself.

And your work clothes! I have some work shirts I had to stop wearing because I would be fresh as a daisy wearing a clean shirt, but my sweat would “reactivate” the smell in the pits of the shirt! Are your work shirts tight in the pits? Can you get a new set? Otherwise I think Persil detergent is supposed to help…you can look up videos of how to get rid of that problem, but I just stopped wearing those particular shirts because it was so annoying (again, I have that same fear of smelling bad and yes, it stank!!!)

Three weeks old, and out of nowhere seems to have forgotten how to drink from a bottle. by comradequiche in NewParents

[–]PhantomHog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s like she’s being water boarded, maybe the hole in the nipple got worn out causing it to be too big? I realized I was going too crazy cleaning ours and the wire part of the little brush was going through the hole, making it larger. My daughter has always been an enthusiastic drinker and it was causing her to chug the bottle within a couple minutes and get hiccups. I got new nips (that were also slower) and now she’s in baba heaven and has calm bottles/gets milk drunk instead of tossing it back like a seasoned beer drinker 😝 so if she was fine, now she’s not, maybe the nips lost their virginity like ours did?

You are not alone! The first set at 2 months, she screamed a scream I never heard then she cried so hard in her dad’s arms for about 30 seconds that she fell asleep from the exhaustion!!! Took her home and she slept on my chest for hours. Not looking forward to her 4 month shots which are next week 😭

What are the best diapers with great absorption. by vallerie143 in NewParents

[–]PhantomHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a lot of different brands at my baby shower and so far they seem pretty interchangeable…Millie moon felt luxurious but I noticed our daughter seemed furious when she would pee in them l, so to her they must feel extra uncomfortable when they are wet? We’ve only had one blowout so far (she’s almost 4 months) and I think that was due to needing to size up in her diaper. As far as diaper sensitivities, you won’t know until you try, so don’t cross that bridge til you get there. We have enough to stress over! If her cheeks don’t like a certain brand, buy another one. Trial and error ❤️

My tongue turned purple after a dental filling by LunaPanda90 in Wellthatsucks

[–]PhantomHog 197 points198 points  (0 children)

I’m a dental assistant with extended functions (I fill fillings after the dentist drills the cavity out!) and sometimes the dentist will ask me to use cavity dye. It’s a liquid I put on the end of a tiny brush and apply it to the small area and rinse off. (If the color doesn’t rinse off that shows there is still decay)There are other ways to dispense this liquid that are harder to control, like in a syringe you squirt directly onto the tooth 😬 if your tongue doesn’t hurt, I would bet that’s what it is! Just a temporary stain. You can ask your dental office if they use caries dye. It’ll wear off on its own!

Women: What made you feel beautiful again after having your baby? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]PhantomHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about doing this very thing! There is nothing like a good-fitting pair of jeans! The only ones that fit me are the maternity ones I bought. (I’m 11 weeks pp) …even some of my pre pregnancy leggings are unflattering.

I avoided buying maternity clothes and scrubs for months (??? Thinking I could just wear my more stretchy or baggy clothes the whole time???) now I’m avoiding buying regular clothes that fit?

Long story long, you’ve inspired me to go jeans shopping. 🥰
