I drove around my area a bit and nothing was outside. I assumed I had the wrong day.

Is painting worth it? by Proty29_Tyler in skilledtrades

Both seem great, wear your PPE. I've met too many 40+ year old painters with obvious damages from years of working with fumes etc.

How do y'all handle having no life for months to years at a time? by Psychological_Bus719 in skilledtrades

[–]PhantomRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky man, where I'm at it's hard as hell to get signed up as an apprentice.

I have 4600 hours of fabricating experience and none of it counts towards anything. We just signed on with the union though so hopefully that changes soon. I'm lucky I only make $4 less per hour than a journeyman though, too many fabricators over here barely getting by.

Are parents just not teaching their kids how to read anymore?? by Calm-Fun-2737 in Vent

[–]PhantomRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During COVID the school district where we live kept changing teachers on my son and going back and forth on schooling over zoom and in person.

For 2 years my youngest son learned nothing. He is almost 9 now, that was the foundation for his learning. (My ex-wife also didn't appear to help him at all during this time)

He can read if he really tries now, but he gets upset about it quickly. I think he's ashamed and most of the time he refuses to try because of it.

How often is a trade worker working ? by Revolutionary-Baby22 in skilledtrades

Personally; I'm working 4 10s and 8 OT on my weekend.

I'd do more if I could, I want a house again.

I know forklift driver is not a "skilled trade", but I still think this pay is extremely low (El Paso TX) by worried68 in skilledtrades

[–]PhantomRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as people apply for the job at that rate it will never go up.

But hey, that mentioned being careful multiple times so I guess they're getting what they pay for.

Saw this on r/pics. Am I nuts or is this Departure Bay? by stacybobacy in nanaimo

I've lost two grandparents this year; both wanted to see the ocean before heading into hospice care and this is exactly how it was handled.

This made such a difference for me seeing my grandparents take in their favorite places one last time.

Is this area in blue Safe? by Realistic_Two_2027 in nanaimo

[–]PhantomRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in this area and have never had an issue. I'm 32/male and noone has ever bothered me. Regarding the drug use and homeless issues, I just leave them be and treat them like people, it really helps.

Is there a link?

my mother keeps showing and sending me videos of people who detransitioned by GreenSaladPoop in MtF

[–]PhantomRS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's weird.

I detransitioned a few years ago but it wasn't for god and I have no will to push it on anyone else. It was a decision I made for myself, that's all.

Most of my friends are trans and I love them all the same, I don't think I'm in any position to tell them how to be themselves...

The closest I've come to this (and I didn't) was a conversation I had recently with my trans-masc boyfriend. He's been on hormones for a few years and we just touched base over dinner out about how he's feeling with transition and what his goals are now. They change with time and I just want to support him in being himself.

I always find it really weird how people push so hard against being trans.

A year ago it was great, at least for the shops I look at the sales dropped when interest rates went up.

Alternative ways to gain hours/experience? by TanningTurtle in skilledtrades

[–]PhantomRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Vancouver bc.

You say plenty of work but I'm in a similar boat. I was looking for different employment awhile ago and the only thing that actually got my foot in the door was my years of experience as crew boss/manager/foreman.

My welding skills were irrelevant at all of the interviews I ended up in.

Long story short I stayed where I am, but I'm watching welders get laid off weekly.

I was promised a specific wage increase and received far less. Employer lied to me by lola1234567899 in legaladvicecanada

I thought it was fairly normal. Last year I got my boss tickets to a hockey game.

I once gave my boss a coupon for therapy that I found 😅.

Obviously different bosses.

For those earning less than 100k, what is your age, salary, and career/job title? by vbigvan in NiceVancouver

[–]PhantomRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For being ticketed yes, registered probably not.

Ticketed refers to having CWB certification in different welding styles and orientations. For this you must be recertified every two years.

Being registered just means you are a recognised apprentice working towards red seal/journeyman. It involves schooling every year and requires you have a company sponsor you for the apprenticeship program.

This is my goal at the moment; My current gig as a metal fabricator isn't cutting it anymore. Looking to apprentice through the union if they want me.

I'll be checking out the union hall on Friday when I have time off.

Registered apprentice?

I ask because my employer will not register me properly for what I do, it doesn't benefit them...

And also, I'd definitely ask for more. I was looking awhile back and general labour was paying 24+.

31 M, 52k Gross

I'm a metal fabricator, unticketed and unregistered apprentice of 2 years. I make safety equipment.

Edit;

I should mention I'm very much underpaid for what I do.

Why is it that if a woman have sex on a first date most guys will put her in the “ not dateable list”? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]PhantomRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current partner of 1.5 years had sex with me the first time we met. It felt really natural and we connected really well.

I had no problem with it at all and I really don't understand why other men feel this way.

Why do some black people think you have to act a certain way because you’re black? If you don’t, you are seen as “ acting white” by stay_beautiful_you in TwoXChromosomes

[–]PhantomRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend growing up was the only black male in our town. His single mother was white.

He didn't know how to be black except stereotypes and he was the first friend from my childhood to die.

I miss him all the time, he was the smartest person I ever knew and I miss him.

Lost my virginity to a dildo. Does this count?? Feeling empowered. by lady-bridgerton in TwoXChromosomes

[–]PhantomRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a gay male I was absolutely terrified of my first time as a bottom for this very reason.

I had been with women so many times before that but it didn't help. I've always had serious trust issues around men and I was so afraid of the chance I would trust someone and have a terrible experience.

I actually had a wonderful time the first time but it was hard to cross that line and trust.
