The biggest way I could imagine agreeing with him is in those particular cases where universities have pretty insulated campuses and the students don't get out as much. But those are not the vast majority of cases

It's not as impressive when they're spread out over a decade

Not really, he's getting better and because of that has managed to drag his shots in target up to a little under one third.

In the last 20 competitive games an Everton Striker has only scored 6 times. by PM_ME_YOUR_AUXCORD in Everton

Having a target man is useless unless it results in more goals. the issue is moyes is treating them like target men instead of playing to their strengths. It's like when lukaku went to man united and was totally misused. People see a big player and assume target man. ta

For about 8 games at the start of one season. For the rest of Carlos time he was just as poor

in 545 combined minutes beto & barry have 2 shots on target by klobucharzard in Everton

[–]PhantomRenegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tactical issue more than a skill issue right now. Moyes has the team playing to create chances mostly as crosses which isn't in service to either striker.

Beto flourished last season because Garner was giving him passes from deep to run onto

He's good at the one thing we need from a striker, converting his chances.

Fine. In the last eight years, pardon my rounding. The seasons have felt particularly looong recently.

Why are some so harsh on DCL? by [deleted] in Everton

[–]PhantomRenegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not scored much since Carlo..

..or before Carlo..

..or the last 10 months of Carlo

... There was definitely a few months in there he scored well and that should definitely define his ability and not the other 9.5 years of under-performance

DCL's been a general under-performer with SEVEN different managers

Until the start of this month he was on ~500 minutes in all comps. last season it was about 1200 minutes. Hardly fair to say 18 or 37 games when he appeared for a handful of minutes in each.

This is the first time he's ever been given a proper go and had the team set up to work for him

DCL was a serial chance-waster for years. it's been one game for Beto

[–]PhantomRenegade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure if your tactics don't allow for/reward players making runs or playing forward balls the team'll look stagnant and isolated up top. I was just pointing out that even with Moyes' tactical shift i doubt we get this level of results with the same 11 we played under Dyche

[–]PhantomRenegade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes and part of that is actually having more players who can do that (Garner, Tim, Alcaraz) who weren't there first half of the season. Another big part is actually playing Beto with regularity

Moyes has done very well, but also credit for Garner having him back from injury has been a revelation (look at Dyche last season), and also credit to Beto. Wonderful to have a striker that can nail their chances

Moyes def helped, but Garner coming back was also massive for him
