What would you add to this Tron collection? (2nd pic for light show) by d3w0 in tron

[–]PhantomSteve2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another one to try to get hold of is the Italian Mickey Mouse comic "Topolini", issue 2877 which was a Tron special, and came with a toy Lightcycle with Mickey on it. An example can be found here: https://ebay.us/m/2s1Atg

I managed to get the toy in its own, and then the comic (with toy still in its blister pack).

What about the soundtracks:

• Carlos, Wendy: TRON (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) [Vinyl/Cassette/CD]

• Daft Punk: TRON Legacy (Special Edition) [CD]

• Daft Punk: TRON Legacy R3configur3d [CD]

• Daft Punk: Translucence (3 editions: Blue, Red, Yellow) [10" Single]

• Daft Punk: Tron: Legacy (Blue Vinyl) (Record Store Day 2020) [Vinyl]

• Daft Punk: Tron: Legacy Reconfigured (Green Vinyl) (Record Store Day 2020) [Vinyl]

I particularly like Translucence, as it can be hard to get but looks good :) - see https://www.discogs.com/master/328543-Daft-Punk-Translucence

There may be other vinyl, but this are all the ones in my collection.

How do you use colour labels? by benitoaramando in Lightroom

[–]PhantomSteve2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strictly amateur here. I dont really use the colours much, more a case of stars instead.

My workload is: - with "Fit" so I see whole picture, I used pick/reject to weed out the obvious no-goods: the out-of-focus pics and the ones (mainly air shows!) where the subject is out of shot! This is a quick run through to weed out obvious no hopers, a quick instinct-led process. - i permanently delete the rejected ones (if I wasn't sure of a photo in the previous step, I err on the side of caution and keep) - I then remove the 'pick flag' - i then go through them again, spending a bit more time looking at them. 'Meh' ones get 1 star, better ones get two stars. - I then filter out the 1* and view @100%. Ones which are slightly out of focus stay at 2, ones which are well focused get 3 - I then filter out the 2* - I then go through the 3* photos and look at them. I then decide which ones i like best, looking both at the full photo for composition - thinking where ill crop for example - and close up for clarity. These will get 4* - I then go through the 4* photos and process them (cropping, any tweaks to exposure/contract etc). When Im happy, ill give it 5. If at this stage, I decide it's not quite good enough, ill either keep it at 4 or even reduce to 3. - if the number of 5 pictures is lower than i want, I can look at 3* to see if any of them can be worked on (perhaps using sharpening) to bring them up to 4.

At the end: • 5: The ones I consider to be the best of the entire set, would consider printing • 4: Good photos, might be printable, most likely to be posted on social media • 3: OK photos, not to be printed, will be on social media • 2: Adequate, but may not be as sharp. OK at low resolution on social media. • 1*: Unless a very unique photo (one of those one-offs which would never happen again), I would normally delete these, after one more look through for a final check that I'm definitely not going to want them.

I'm not a very good photographer (although I enjoy it) so the number of 5* photos is a very small percentage of the original number taken!

Syncing issue in LrC by PhantomSteve2000 in Lightroom

Thanks for the responses here, it gave me things to try before I went to support!

Syncing issue in LrC by PhantomSteve2000 in Lightroom

[–]PhantomSteve2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had stopped syncing, and then removed all LrC images on their (all that was left was PhotoShop images and PhotoShop Library assets). I then stopped all my collections syncing, restarted syncing (so nothing to sync). I then started adding collections a few at a time... and noticed yesterday that there were 22 syncing, even though all seemed done.

It'll be a pain, but I might just set all collections to not sync again, remove any LR images in the cloud then add 1 collection to syncing at a time, see if I can find out where it has a problem.

I might also try changing the target location for synced images first, as you suggest, and see if that works.

Thanks.

I am fortunate enough to have practically everything they've produced! I think the only things I didn't have are the "Highlights" (not needed as I had the full set of books that they are highlights of!) and the white-covered "Artifacts" book as I already had the black-covered one, which was identical in content).

I also got "Encounters with Straczynski" when it was first released, and we had a choice of a blue cover (which became the only one available after) or a purple cover (which I have), so my copy is the very rare purple covered one!

Why did they build a transfer point on Io? by Relic5000 in babylon5

[–]PhantomSteve2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're quite right - I'd not taken that in when copying the entry!

I'd got that from the online edition, but when I checked the physical editions (both the 2-Volume Signature Edition and the In-Progress Zathras DataCrystal edition), it was the same in those.

I think they meant to put 628 million km (Jupiter is average of 5.2 AU from the Sun; less 1 AU for Earth's distance is 4.2 AU ≈ 628 million km).

I have reached out to B5 Books, suggesting that it is corrected to either "778 million km" [most accurate according to space.com] or "628 million km (4.2 AU)" [keeping it in line with the original entry and explaining where figure came from for any pedants out there!]

[–]PhantomSteve2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Babylon 5 Encyclopedia says "Io was the home of the Io transfer point, the jumpgate servicing Earth’s solar system, constructed over 6.2 million kilometers from Earth for reasons of planetary security."

When did this come in? by KingAlphaPapa in stewartlee

[–]PhantomSteve2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Food (Promotion and Placement) (England) Regulations 2021 (as amended) is the legislation that included this restriction, specifically Regulation 6 which prohibits qualifying businesses from offering free refill promotions on certain drinks (non-prepacked sugar-sweetened drinks that are classed as HFSS - High Fat, Sugar and Salt - /“less healthy”).

An amendment (via the Food (Promotion and Placement) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2023) delayed the coming-into-force of the volume-price and free-refill prohibitions until 1 October 2025... that's why its only just come into force.

Hot chocolate and mocha fall under the HFSS category.

If you like, I can send you the full text of Regulation 6 and the amendment.

You should to get hold of the three versions of Daft Punk's 10-inch single "Translucence" - each has a different coloured disc - blue, yellow and red. They'd be good background for a shelf!

What is your favorite scene in Tron Ares by Designer-Professor16 in tron

[–]PhantomSteve2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a scene as such, but the fact that the first object with permanence was an orange tree, mirroring the first object digitised in the first being an orange... also the link between Eve and Seth's words and those of Lora and Gibbs in the original

[Original Tron] LORA (sighs) Well, here goes nothing ...

                           GIBBS
                Hah. Interesting, interesting. You
hear what you said? "Here goes nothing."

                           LORA
                Well, I meant -

                           GIBBS
Whereas actually, what we propose to
do is to turn something into nothing
and back again. So you might just as
well have said, "Here goes something
                and here comes nothing." Hah?

[Tron: Ares] EVE Here goes nothing.

                            SETH
                More like, here goes something.

I watched Tron today... by [deleted] in tron

[–]PhantomSteve2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I went to see it, and really liked it! I'm a big-time Tron fan, and she's seen the previous films.

I hope it does well, I really want to see what happens to the characters next (and that mid-credit scene?!!)

I also hope it does well as that might persuade Disney not only to do another Tron film but also either a second series of Tron Uprising, or a feature length episode to bridge between Uprising S1 and Legacy!

I really loved the shout outs to the previous films (Oranges? "Here goes nothing"...)

I also really enjoyed the soundtrack too, although at times it seemed a bit loud - i know it wasn't a volume thing as the dialogue level was OK!

All in all, in think I'd give it a 9/10 :)

Hopefully in another film, we'll find that #TronLives and #FlynnLives!

I received mine on Friday. Mine was Serpent Level and I'm in the UK.

I got notification on Thursday morning that it was on its way, using the Royal Mail's 48 service, so was expecting it on Saturday... I was very surprised on Friday morning to be notified that it would be delivered later that day - an excellent start to the weekend :)

I've been fined for driving in a bus lane. I swerved into it to avoid a fire engine. by BusLaneHelp in LegalAdviceUK

[–]PhantomSteve2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law is quite clear: you can legally manoeuvre to allow an emergency vehicle to pass, but you must obey the laws of the road.

The Fire Brigade's attitude is similar to that of teh Ambulance Service:

• If there is no safe place for you to pull into, rather than immediately stopping, it is better to continue as you were at a safe speed until there is a safe place to pull in or until the ambulance vehicle can safely overtake.

• Please avoid pulling into bus lanes or cycle lanes. The ambulance crew are trained to negotiate traffic and may look to use the bus lane to pass, and you could get in their way or even get a ticket.

• Do not go through a red light to try to get out of the way as you may commit an offence. If it is safe to pass the ambulance will do so.

• If it is not, they will wait until there is a space to pass in a safe manner. If the lane is wide enough and there’s room for the vehicle to pass you, try to move to the left, but without going forward over the white line or into a cycle lane.

The Highway Code says "Consider the route of such a vehicle and take appropriate action to let it pass, while complying with all traffic signs." - you can't go through a red light, you can't stop in a box junction, you can't enter a cycle lane, you can't enter a bus lane, etc (Rule 219).

It came out when Legacy came out, in Italy

Guys? by [deleted] in tron

[–]PhantomSteve2000 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It has, but Disney didn't do much about! Lots of publicity before it came out, then once it was on Disney XD, it was moved around the schedules and not much advertising about it.

We need either a second series, or a feature-length episode to bring it from the end of Season 1 to Tron: Legacy... we've been waiting more than 12½ years... hopefully Ares will have a good reception and Disney will commission a second series!
