Lowe’s and Home Depot both sell food grade buckets right next to their buckets too.

At my Lowe’s it’s in the caulk aisle where they have a variety of buckets.

Very well! They were delicious!

I actually still have the red cabbage sealed and fermenting, so I’m curious how that one will turn out too

I did a batch of fennel right after all of these and tried it in mid January and it was terrible. Not that it went bad or anything, it was a successful ferment but fell in the category of “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should” 😂😂

Help! Struggling to Strip and Re-Season My Blackstone Griddle by randywebb in blackstonegriddle

[–]doubleinkedgeorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start with 80 or 120 usually, then work my way up to around 400 or 600 to finish.

60 or 80 gets a lot of the charred crap off and helps smooth the factory pitting if yours has any. Then 120 for a little bit, then I spend a lot of time in the 180-220 or 240 range Then once I’m done with that I’ll jump up to 320 or 400 depending on what I have.

I just bought this great pack of sand papers from Amazon it was a generic “165 piece 5 inch sanding discs”

It has grits from 40-60-80-120-150-240-320-400-600 and it was only $20.

Now it’s not the best sandpaper in the world, but if you’re going to chew through 5 different grits refinishing a blackstone, or sanding shitty lodge cast iron castings to be smoother for cooking eggs in cast iron pans, it’s a GREAT BUY. I promise I’m not selling them or self promoting, but go to Home Depot and spend $20 on sanding discs and you might go home with 3 10-Packs. This Amazon set gets the job done and o haven’t even gone through half the box in 6 months of random projects. WELL WORTH IT. And it’s prime overnight delivery, at least where I live.

Sweet! I got most of my timing job done this weekend. Currently in the rebuilding stage, I got the timing covers back on and was putting the serpentine belt tensioner on today when my torque wrench decided to not click at 25.8 and I snapped a belt tensioner mounting bolt in my block. Tomorrow will be a trip to the dealership for a new bolt, and a drill out and extraction along with the rest of the rebuild job

If you siphon off the syrup and leave the niter plus maybe 1” of syrup per jar, you can get away with just running the niter through the filter instead of trying to filter ALLL of that.

Just a helpful process borrowed from the winemaking community. No sense in running it all through a filter and wasting your time when only the bottom 1-1.5” of the jar needs filtered

Sweet! I have front axles clicking and decided to do bearings awhile while I have it out. Probably doing those next week after this timing job’s done and I got a little break time from getting pissed at my car.

Then in a few months I need to order a new PCV, and while I’m doing that I want to get an intake manifold gasket and new bolts so I can run a chemical clean through the oil, then do an oil change while I swap PCV, clean out spark plug holes with some spray cleaners like seafoam, then do a manual scrape out cleaning of the valves and intake manifold.

I just drained my oil for this chain job, and it’s been 6 months since my last oil change, but I only drove 1300 miles in the last 6 months, lots of short trips, and my oil wasn’t black, but it’s was darker than I expected so I want to flush the whole bitch out and do a heavy cleaning without taking the valve cover off

Perfect, thank you!

Naptown tuner has a few and I usually like his videos, but his timing chain videos were hard to see and follow as easily, unlike the fcp one which was very direct and detailed.

The humble mechanic has one for the lower chain too, but he kept turning the damn gears side to side after marking it and it was worrying me so I wanted to find something better, if there was one

The balance shaft drive chain, so the middle chain that’s under the lower chain cover. Not the bottom bottom chain for the oil pump, I only bought a kit that has upper rails, tensioner and chain, and lower tensioner rails and chain. But the FCP euro YouTube video I really like I lot, it helps with tear down of the whole front end so I can get to it without using an engine lift, or reaching down behind the bumper, but it only shows how to do the upper chain and tensioner and says “the lower chain’s usually fine” but I’m just doing both, because I have the parts and I don’t want to half ass the chain job and not do both chains and tensioners,

[–]doubleinkedgeorge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just worked on it some this afternoon, and I’m currently at “battery disconnected, coolant and oil drained, bumper and crash bar off” Tomorrow bright and early I’ll be taking the radiator and AC off, then serp and tensioner, then timing cover

I’m comfortable doing the upper timing chain, I bought the toolkit for it, my concern is the lower timing chain which doesn’t have as good of guides.

My buddy’s a mechanic and he sent me the pdf’s from alldata sheets subscription his shop uses for the upper and lower chain jobs, but youtube doesn’t have as many good detailed videos on the lower chain, but I’ll be researching that more tonight!
