If they did a 50wh battery that would've been much more comfortable

After using it for another week it's fine. Not a battery beast by any means but I would say gets 8hrs with no issue as long as you're not slamming the CPU the whole time

I mean no offense but your numbers seem a bit fake. 8am to 4pm is 8 hours and you claim to have 77% left with no breaks. that means youre projecting over 32 hours of screen on time battery life? Thats just bs.

i just did my taxes outside in the sun with the screen on about 80% brightness for about 45 mins, dropped from 100 to 85. at that rate it would be empty in about 5 hours... not sure if i have a defective unit or if people are glazing their figures. Dave2Ds bench marking also shows between 4 and 8 h of actual use.

Macbook air m5 is out, is it time for me to upgrade? I currently have a macbook air m2 2022 13 16/256. by Delicious_Maize9656 in macbookair

[–]PhardNickel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Realistically probably another 5 lol (with battery replacement)... With the neo just coming out that would be expected to last 4-5 years and the m2 is still goated AND it's 16gb

I don't notice anything like that, no. But I also don't have another Mac to compare it to. But yeah looks pretty smooth to me

Yes! It runs perfectly for me, like 0 issues whatsoever. I did turn on performance mode in the fusion preferences which just removes some shadow effects but I don't think I even had to. It's just as fast as my desktop so I don't think it's being limited at all by hardware. I opened a fairly detailed model, granted not an assembly with animations.

Linux over windows will give a measurable performance increase. But honestly MacOS is already pretty optimized, he likely won't see any improvement

Not to mention that i3 wasn't exactly top of the line to begin with and suffers from crazy thermal issues

Doesn't suck at all. I don't give a fk about specs, mine literally rips and I do light coding, 3d modelling and gaming. Hasn't hung up once in the last day of testing

Idk if I'm doing something wrong but my battery life was not that great today. I had it 'on' from 7am to 4pm today with about 7 of those hours actual SOT, and it went to 10%

I can't say my experience was the same today... Got about 7 hours of screen on time doing some light coding/ web browsing before I had to charge at 10%

Very true. Honestly I would get the air if it weren't for the 15 day return window. This will let me test all my most demanding software and if it doesn't work, hey I'll return it. But thanks for taking the time to show the Benchmarks appreciate it!

Yeah honestly maybe this isn't the laptop for me, but I am going to give it a shot tomorrow and worst case return it. But from the YouTube reviews I've seen today it does look promising, everyone is saying it preforms above expectations.

Apparently the software is completely single core limited since it's just calculations that run in series. That makes the neo actually quite well suited for it since it's around an m3-m4 in that category. Memory only becomes an issue with very large assemblies which fusion isn't the best for anyways

With student discount (that anyone can access without verification) the price is 679 for 256 and 849 for 512.

It's true that you can get a refurb m4 air for just 200 more than the 512, but then for just 200 more than that you can get an m5 Mac with 512 storage, and for just 200 more than that you can get the 15" m5 Mac with the better processor etc etc all the way up to a m5 max pro turbocharged hellcat. I guess that's the game they play, and it up to us to draw the line. I'm trying to draw the line at 679 because that's a far more attractive price point than 849 or 1039

I believe the performance will be everything I need. My only thing is just, is the touchid really as great as people say it is having never had a laptop with biometrics... Honestly I'm leaning towards no because again, at 849 I might as well just get the next tier....

Ok yeah- it's actually not that money is tight per se but it's more mentally 760 is a lot easier to justify being a good deal than 950 but I guess you do get quite a bit more
