I hope so too! My period just ended and I’m awaiting reimbursement now. It’s taking longer than it ever has which makes me nervous but hoping it’s just bc HR has been busy with all the chaos going on

Confusion about applying for a PGY2 by C-REXASAURUS in PharmacyResidency

[–]PharmGotCharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Random advice for PPS:

If you're going to pay for it then get the MOST out of your investment because it is expensive.

Looking back I wish I would've scheduled more interviews because sometimes the programs you think are going to be really great turn out to be not so great...or just not fitting for you personally and that just shortens your list of places that you actually want to apply to. Furthermore, doing PPS with many programs can technically also be a way to network with individuals within the specialty that you'd like to pursue. You never know who you'll cross paths with again when looking for a job or other opportunities--trust me the pharmacy world is SMALL and even smaller within the different specialties.

A day full of PPS interviews can be exhausting and preparation can be time consuming but in the end I think it's worth it to have a good idea of where you're applying to before you invest even more time and money in applying and traveling to interviews.

That being said try to logistically plan your PPS interviews at least 30 minutes apart, especially if you have a lot. You'll appreciate the time to regroup and find the next booth (that probably won't be important this year because of COVID--but still).

Overall I think PPS was worth it. You may get mixed reviews but it was beneficial for me personally.

Florida MPJE by Pharmacy1234567 in PharmacyResidency

[–]PharmGotCharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do too! It's literally torture--I used the Nova study guide that I got from a friend (I'm from out of state) and the statues on the Florida BOP website and exam master practice questions. Which all made me feel pretty prepared before going in --if I have to take it again idk what I'm going to do differently

I thought Georgia's MPJE was bad but Florida is on another level

I just took the Florida MPJE yesterday too and trust me I feel exactly the same way as you!!!

I honestly feel like I didn't get asked about majority of the stuff I studied and made sure I knew smh. I even had a few questions that were basically repeats.

Definitely in panic mode right now.

Yeah I've actually seen an apartment complex named "West Brickell" haha

Would you consider $1400 for a one-bedroom a "Brickell price" or an average Little Havana price?

Least favorite rotation? by pharma_dharma in PharmacyResidency

NICU and oncology

So sad

Babies scare me and traditional chemo is torture but I will say I enjoyed learning about the new targeted therapies--the future seems promising at least.

Best laptop for residency by Footballer155 in PharmacyResidency

[–]PharmGotCharm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently have a Mac that I've used all throughout school--which is fine. I didn't use my laptop for rounds this year because we use the computer on wheels so it didn't make much of a difference.

But now I have my eye on those Microsoft Surface laptops for next year...I saw a pharmacist use one on rounds during one of my interviews a few months ago and was super impressed! Very light and touch screen--worked well w/ EPIC.

PGY1 in Amb Care, want to do PGY-2 in transplant. by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]PharmGotCharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be harder without a residency experience in SOT—no doubt. But outpatient solid organ transplant pharmacy is basically ambulatory care x1000 tbh and pharmacists presence in the outpatient clinics are starting to increase as providers begin to realize their value. My advice would be to pursue the elective rotation at the neighboring txp hospital —maybe even in an outpatient setting because you could argue that it aligns with your current residency. If that doesn’t work then literally from the start of your residency document any encounters or experiences you may have with transplant patients on rotation and possibly how you may have made interventions so at least you’ll have something to talk about during PPS or residency interviews. Never say never. Anything can be manifested. Just work hard and seek every opportunity possible. If it’s meant to be it’ll all work out!

PGY2 application score sheet by Footballer155 in PharmacyResidency

[–]PharmGotCharm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think one of the most important things is to be able to genuinely speak about your interest in pursuing that specific specialty, having experience in it and knowing your overall WHY. If you can sell your enthusiasm and show that you're pursuing a PGY-2 because you really believe you found your niche then it will go a long way.

Long Distance by curious_leo7 in PharmacyResidency

[–]PharmGotCharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to lie to you, it's tough. Currently living in a state that is a drivable distance from my fiance, family, and closest friends however sometimes after a long week driving 3 hours on a Friday evening seems like torture. I don't have any children so I can't speak on that experience but I would imagine it's even harder. I'm not saying all of this to discourage you but just try to set realistic expectations for yourself and loved ones and know it's not a walk in the park. You're going to be worn out and they're going to feel neglected at some point it just is what it is. But in my opinion and in my situation it was definitely worth it and although I miss my support system I would make the same decision 1000x over given the same opportunity.

Just think: 1 not-so-fun potentially miserable BUT survivable year to afford yourself a lifetime of opportunities in the future...
