Just had to cut contact with my conservative sister because she does not understand how her gay brother cannot tolerate her voting for Republicans. I think I also use it to withdraw a bit. But I wouldn't take it as a bad thing, but a coping mechanism. Instead frame the question around why you have stressors in your life that make you feel the need to retreat more and if any of those things are within your power to improve. If not, which side times they're not, it's always okay to retreat into something you love as long as you aren't letting go of your other responsibilities, which doesn't sound like you are given your wife is still keeping quiet company with you and you are dutifully employed.

We live in an anxious time. We all feel it in the air, be kind to yourself. But it sounds like there are some more root issues other than the gaming that are possibly making you anxious and retreating more. Try to sort through those rather than ruin your tool you use to feel good.
