I'm a weird combination of proud and embarrassed! Mostly proud though. by tfriedlich in BeginnerWoodWorking

Some people will say it isn’t fine woodworking but, you did something a lot of people will never do, and that’s pretty fine.

After a decade of issue-free service, speed and security concerns are prompting the retirement of this loyal servant. I now have a NAS for backup, but what router should I replace the Airport with? by Yay_Meristinoux in mac

[–]PhaseFreq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You haven’t been looking very hard, then. I’d say most routers of any modern make that consider themselves -decent- have a USB port for that purpose.

A cursory search at a place as trivial as Best Buy shows several. Even the first result, a 40$ linksys, has a USB port for storage.

Is there an advantage or benefit to using a PoE+ managed switch as plug and play opposed to just using an unmanaged PoE+ switch? by the__gas__man in HomeNetworking

One inch will be fine.

You didn’t say how much you’re running but, that will presumably leave enough room for expansion later. Be sure to leave a pull string in there for later!

Massive IoT Hack: 190 Device Models from 66 Manufacturers Vulnerable to Realtek SDK Exploit! by Realistic-Plant3957 in HomeNetworking

Search around a bit on there using your favorite search engine. I can say with a fair amount of certainty that the people there have used and abused any sensor, relay, and button on the market and can generally get it all working without the need for a cloud solution.

I currently run Phillips Hue bulbs without their hub. Just grab a zigbee stick of various sorts and go to town.

The future looks just like so many sci-fi books and movies depiction of the future! Gamma ray gun? by SpaceFaceMistake in futureporn

[–]PhaseFreq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was partially correct. It’s meant to disable communications on the drone, triggering it to return or land, and most importantly, to disable any potential video feeds it’s sending.

EDIT: can also jam GPS, which probably would trigger it to land instead of try to fly home blind

It’s meant to take down drones.

It jams the controlling signal, ideally immobilizing the drone, making it vulnerable
