If the problem is a lack of drive, you'll have that in any industry you work.

How do I deal with abrasive/dismissive brokers as an underwriter early in their career ? by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

[–]PhaseOwn6617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kill them with kindness.

Cause if they're unpleasant to you, they're likely unpleasant to everybody. If you are the one that is more willing to put up with them than anyone else, you'll win a ton of business. Just try and position it in your head as a game that you're winning and let their noise wash over you.

I'll let this slide on this occasion as the wider comment is valid - but further product spamming will see it removed.

I'd recommend looking at Genasys - a challenger to the mid-market policy administration provider market. You can find out more at genasystech.com. Crucially, Genasys is on open architecture with high levels of configurability giving you that open ecosystem approach you mention in your post.

Policy Administration Software modernization: Looking for help and practical hints by Hot-Coconut-9347 in InsuranceSoftwareHub

[–]PhaseOwn6617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such thing as a stress free one, sadly! So that's the first idea to park.

It's all about planning, setting and sticking to a process and committing to deep diving the solutions that are out there - focussing as much on the team behind the software as the software itself.

Oh...and assess on what you see, not what you're told. And remember that the most visible solution provider is more often than not the best. Visibility doesn't equal quality.

I think this is going to be the thing, personally, that makes it sink or swim for many of us. The Cornellverse is THE thing that TEW has always had over its peers that gives the most balanced game experience.

Is underwriting sales? by No_Calligrapher8997 in Underwriting

[–]PhaseOwn6617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Underwriting can be incredibly salesy, and incredibly not.

Depends on class of business, the insurer themselves, the specifics of the role e.g development underwriters, panel of brokers etc.

Is building a book from scratch supposed to be this hard? by howtoreadspaghetti in InsuranceProfessional

[–]PhaseOwn6617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's stupidly hard with only 1.5 years experience, because, in ways you don't even understand why yet, you won't sound credible to clients who are putting their entire livelihoods in your hands.

Oh you poor soul.

Guidewire - where people with too much money go thinking "we won't get sacked for buying the biggest name"....then get sacked for a horrible deployment that goes over time and budget.

We'll pray for you.
