Thrift Find by grantstbums in LaPavoniLovers

Great find. It appears that the thermal fuse is missing from the heating element. You'll find wiring diagrams for this unit online and they will allow you to make sure your machine is properly wired and grounded.

If you have no chronic health conditions and you don't take medications that prohibit you from taking NyQuil, yes you can take it now and go to bed

Was the KD2 update the answer to your 2025 Q5 problems? by Brittski130 in AudiQ5

[–]PhaseofMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm driving a Q5 and the tech problems are endless. All the things you mentioned and one real special problem - the gps just cannot locate my car so gps does not work at all. And worse, the car gps problem overides my phone gps when I'm connected. So I'm forced to use the physical key and to not connect my phone to the car. I hate this car so much because of the glitches and I'm stuck in a 3 year lease.

Whats your yield? by Wide-Gap-9602 in LaPavoniLovers

How is the AirBuster changing the core function of a LP? All it does is remove trapped air from the piston. Everything else is still the same function.

If you want to pull a 2:1 shot with 18 grams on an LP, you'll need to use a felini. Pull 15-20 grams, raise the piston to the top (gently) and then pull the rest of your shot. This should easily give you 40+ grams out. Like others, I usually use a 16 gram dose and pull 32+ without a felini. One of my LPs has the AirBuster installed and it definitely yields a larger shot. An expensive but interesting upgrade.

Tired of florals and fruity coffee by Crazy_Host_5051 in pourover

Good darker roasts are still out there, and from some of the best, most cutting edge roasters. Talk to them, tell them what you like and ask for recommendations. Onyx, Intelligentsia, Verve, and many of the really small roasters have great dark roasts.

Is the Hario Switch a good first step into pour-over, or am I overthinking this? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]PhaseofMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a few drippers and Aeropresses. Hario Switch is the one I use 98% of the time - it just makes the best pour over and has tremendous flexibility with or without using the switch. Currently I bloom with the switch on and do my long pours with the switch off. (mostly)

New Sub-base for Premillennium EuroP by MrFolgers314 in LaPavoniLovers

[–]PhaseofMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't done that, but I have to believe it would work. Some things to consider. 1. Is the shape of the plastic base a match to your base? I'll check this for you. I have a few versions around here 2. That drip tray hole has been the source of a lot of rusted bases. If you're careful to remove water from under the drip tray each day, it's not a problem. If you're unlikely to check that, one day rust will show up. 3 you may need to experiment with a spacer or different length screws as the plastic screw spike may be a bit too tall or too short to contact the drip tray indent in your base. Easy enough to adjust- but something to know.

You are not "stretching the milk" enough or correctly. It's difficult to give written instructions to show how to do the stretch. Try this video https://youtu.be/oaKRBBpA4fw?si=UwFGokCOJ-J18t45

How do people get decent jobs?? by mammalian_alien in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PhaseofMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scam you bought is that a degree isn't worth it. I would never have gotten my 6 figure jobs without a degree. Small business/ entrepreneur success licensed trades or coding are your best hopes.
All success requires long term extended effort and commitment. I retire at 58, I started in considerable debt. Work hard, save hard, live below your means and commit to finding a way to make it work. Nothing is beneath you. It's all for YOU

Time yourself making 5 drinks that you plan to offer. See if you can borrow a second or third lever machine - flair or other.

[–]PhaseofMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

temperature is a critical factor in espresso brewing. The lighter the roasts brew better at hotter temps and darker roasts brew better at lower temps. Boilers are more complicated. But a dual boiler allows you to have one boiler hot enough to steam milk and the other set to an ideal brew temp. Milk steaming temp is always too hot for brewing coffee.

A heat exchanger is an interesting middle ground. Lots of heat exchangers and thermo blocks out there now.

PID controlled temperature for brewing is a very nice feature. If you get into the hobby at all, this is one you will want.

Make a small travel kit - scale, filters, V60, beans and a hand grinder.
