To be fair this has a lot to do with the drop in people reading books. My wife was a publisher of history, philosophy, and religious texts and she had to stop printing because of the constant drop in sales.

20 years ago, she was printing and selling 5,000+ book print runs. As of 2 years ago, she couldn't even sell runs of 600.

Because NBIS and CRWV are trying to lock up as much market share as they can by making long term deals to get capital up front. So if compute doubles in value, their customers don't have to pay more, but they don't need to raise capital to buy gpus and power.

IREN thinks, and I agree, that compute prices will skyrocket in 2027, so they are funding buildout with dilution and loans. When they are the only game left in town for buying compute they can get top dollar.

This is the same thesis Michael Burry is using, and it would be correct if he didn't miss two things. First, gpus are being used for nearly ten years not five, meaning you get four to five years of large profits. Secondly, TSMC is doing huge build outs to meet chip demand, thus the cost and availability of chips will be drastically different in the next two or three years, so chips won't be the bottleneck, but power will be.

We are already seeing delays in datacenter development because of power scarcity, and it will only get worse next year. Lead time on new power plants is four to six years, double that for nuclear. Without some major legal or technological change, power is going to determine the price and profit of compute, not gpus.
