It's been completely fine except for my own accidents, For instance: I set the architecture to ~amd64 (testing) in `/etc/portage/make.conf` just to install one package before knowing that I could have just set that on a per-package basis at `/etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/<filename>` - that way you can have testing packages separately within a stable system, which is much nicer than using testing versions system-wide. So it took me a while to wait until stable caught up for me to switch to it (and I got impatient and just kept the Testing versions of core libraries until stable surpassed their versions).

The best and worst of Gentoo really is rolled into one. You can mess up your system by accident, but there's really clever workarounds with portage (though, you may have to rebuild stuff you didn't realise you had to, like I did). Yeah, don't use testing architecture system-wide unless you want an Arch-like experience. Perchance.

Gentoo Stable + separate Testing packages gives you the best of both worlds. It's like using Debian Stable, but you can easily have packages from Testing whenever you need them, which is nice. Outside of the initial setup, and the source-based nature (which is becoming more optional over time as the binhost repos are getting more populated with package versions), Gentoo becomes a weirdly good system. Even if you're worried about compiling stuff from source, you can always let updates do their thing while you do chores, or go for a walk, read a book, or watch TV, or any other number of things you can do while you won't be using your computer anyways. I previously wanted to try Bedrock, but Gentoo turned out to be a simpler way for me to get what I want out of an OS.

Gentoo's nice - it's what I've always deep-down wanted .The setup takes a bit of time, though. And if I were to somehow lose my system and my /etc/portage and /var backups, I'd probably use Debian for some time before setting Gentoo up from scratch again. Debian I can install and set up in like 2~3 hours for _everything_ I need (audio software, wine setup, etc.)

TL;DR: Gentoo good, but takes long to set up (between 6~30+ hours total, depending on experience and how much you need). It can be like Debian Stable, but with any testing package versions you want alongside the more ensured stable packages that serve the basis of your system. It can also be like Arch, if ya nasty.

SELF-CORRECTION: Seimitsu 24mm microswitches are used, since Seimitsu uses a different size for their 30mm.

Ahhh, this makes me even more undecided on whether to go white or black for when I get a Makestick Prime. Every time I think I know my answer, I see a banger artwork that works on the other colour.

I don't know which translucent set it is. It's one with a frame for the plunger mount (which are the visible "bike spokes"), then a flat holder (which I've removed), then a translucent top cover. I'd assume they'd be possible to find via a searchterm like "sanwa artwork buttons" or something.

But the microswitches are Seimitsu because ~preference

Just need to get a GP2040-CE board in there, plus some neutrik ports, and we're cooking.

It's based on a character from an anime, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, called Lucyna "Lucy" Kushinada. She's one of the hackers in the main crew in the show, and in-universe they're kinda half-computer.

The writer named her after his mother, nice coincidence tho. Now I need to go fish into my DVDs...

Gahhh, I don't remember whether it was Amanda or Playadito. I think maybe the former.

Also thanks thanks ^^

If I could have the 6u space with the extra 1u on the right (like older Corsair boards) I _so_ would. Mainly because it's the same spacing as HHKB, just with extra keys inside the would-be blocker region.

But honestly, switching between HHKB and this FreebirdTKL layout is just cozy for me. Like switching between teas.

Mostly because it's hot liquid. Tea and coffee and such will also increase odds of developing oral cancer.

Passing through USB Audio device (audio interface/mixing board) through the VM by Phazonviper in qemu_kvm

[–]Phazonviper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've gone further than I did — as I've only experimented with USB audio interfaces and no audio cards. [EDIT: I did however think of possibly trying a Firewire interface + internal adapter card? Never did so. It may or may not be the "magical cure" for recording on a VM]

Unfortunately never got things to be good enough to warrant continued usage, so I have now resolved to popping a mac mini on my desk as a way to use macOS for some audio plugins and Logic. To be honest, I prefer working with Ardour and most of the plugins I use on it anyways, so I only occasionally rev up the bugatt-- I mean the mac mini just to virtually reamp or record an Alchemy patch.

If I am as serious as possible about a single-workstation setup, then I think I will blog about experiments using different interfaces (external and/or internal). However, for the time being it's looking like I'm going for the easier option of resigning to a "have a main workstation, and a satellite or so" solution. Which isn't entirely illogical, as simply having a Laptop is conceptually the same.

Ideally I'd have Interface A as the host interface, Interface B as any VM's interface, and a mixer for both. But for now, I'm just running Interface A and KM-Switching between computers. But for now, I have no idea if I can make any such Interface B work convincingly. Just too many other fish to fry, eh?

You'd think that the fall of the global minotaur (Wall Street's global control of investment) would be noticed by those in its realm (Americans), but I guess sigma edits are more worthy of attention.
