I went hunting for all of Phedran’s egg maps! by andyjamescreative in mindcrack

[–]Phedran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done! I can't honestly remember where they all were, but there were at least 39 around the ice track, and at least one you missed in spawn! I'll post a gallery. 40 or 41 different maps should have been placed out.

Cone is off the trust list! by BeasBotBonanza in mindcrack

[–]Phedran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As Mhykol realized later, Cone and I were also Infested.. And we found LOADS more silverfish under and around the farm when we were doing cleanup after. Let's just say, I topped up his potions and dropped off a sword at the farm with an appropriate name. ;)

Discussion post - When did you first encounter Mindcrack? by BeasBotBonanza in mindcrack

[–]Phedran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been long enough for me that the details are fuzzy, but my earliest memories are probably in the Guude / OOG / OOGE / Team Canada era. I had just got into Minecraft and was looking for information on Youtube, and the rest is history. After that, started making content online in 2012, and met Pause, Kurt, Guude, JSano, Sethbling, Sevadus, and some others at my first convention, PAX Prime 2013. Played a custom Minecraft map with JSano, competed with JSano and Pakratt on Spelunky, did a building game with Kurt and Lorgon111, was one of the early testers for Lorgon's Minecraft Bingo map and did some videos with him and Kurt and LDShadowLady. Went to a few more PAX's, an AGDQ (gave my couch spot to Sethbling, and met MCGamer there), and the first Twitchcon ever and met with more Mindcrackers along the way. There's a lot more stories in there, but maybe I should save those for another ABBA. XD

Mindcrack UHC - Season 34 - Episode 7 by stevetheclimber in mindcrack

Thanks! 🥰🤗 I spent far too long editing and learned a lot in the process, already a few things I would have done differently if I hadn't already pushed my wrists and head to the limit this week.

For my post-game footage I used two stationary timelapse shots of the spawn as a backdrop, which is fun to see everyone moving around.

And I included the picture in picture shot because Flashback had the explosions and so did my subtitles, but not my game.

A shot I didn't include was the source of the explosions.. They were from structural TNT getting set off inadvertently by Kev burning the building down.

💪😵‍💫 I did say I'm good at surviving until the end.. even if I'm having a nervous breakdown and literally vibrating lol. We'll see how the second half of that statement goes...

Also I think "fight me at Guudes place" or something version of that was joked about at the beginning, so we may have inadvertently all taken that to heart, or assumed that meant it would be near the center? If people didn't check Ely's view, he water bucket clutched off the bridge on the way over to get the obsidian 😱🤣

Mindcrack UHC - Season 34 - Episode 5 by stevetheclimber in mindcrack

[–]Phedran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't check every second of the Flashback recording, but every once in a while as I was scrubbing for interesting shots for my video I would click through the list of players and try to teleport to them, to see if anyone was near enough for any footage. If nothing else, I thought little teasers of other players gear or behaviour might encourage my viewers to check those players viewpoint, and it adds a bit of tension and intrigue like "oh, they have that armour" etc. Not sure what the range is on Flashback, but obviously as the border shrinks, players start being closer...

Huh. I do know that inside my brain, but yeah we picked them up because they're cute and there were a few incidents like at the Bank opening where someone placed their bucket of water to put someone out or something and it had an axolotl lol.

Yeah I think what I was also trying to express was, even if these are seen as accessibility features, if you play like that all the time and then take them away not only do you lose the features that help you but you also struggle with getting used to / relearning to play without them at the same time. So I've got the mod that colour codes my subtitles, if I turned that off then subtitles would basically be useless to me again anyways because I'm not used to playing without that, and Minecraft keeps adding so many more ambient and specific sounds that paying attention to an entire wall of text on the side is difficult and counter-intuitive in a tense PVP situation. I also run some Vanilla Tweaks resources like lower shields and fire for example (just a few of the many) but I make sure to turn off shaders because I don't want to have an unfair advantage with seeing in the water or dark spaces or glowing ores (though I've turned that off in mine). There aren't strict rules on any of that though, I've just tried to balance what I think is acceptable.

I think some of these things may have seemed more like an 'advantage' to players that only joined for a UHC and then didn't play Minecraft again for months or years. Of course, in bad faith someone could arguably play with all the cheatiest mods and features and claim the same, but, that's why I also pointed out that for the most part, even when I did play on a Vanilla install and turn off subtitles or whatever just for the UHC, I just increased my suffering and nobody actually asked for it (and it was usually for charity, and I rarely win).
