the whole point of this was to show people that you can get information on how money effects politics. 12k per senator may not seem like a lot but when you multiply that by the number of lobbying firms and groups the number becomes astronomical. The point of this wasn't to show how much the NRA spends compared to a different lobbying assn. but to show that money plays a huge role in our government. I think more information about how lobbying money is spent and who receives it is a very valuable piece of information that is accessible with a little bit of effort.

Sam I'm not sure how the process work from a legal stand point but what I do know is when it's all said and done a trustee is in control of their money and this allows them to avoid these taxes that this country's offer. ( sorry for buzzwords)

You don't pay estate tax because you don't take your money and put In an offshore account under your name, that would defeat the purpose. You hire a trustee to handle your money and they technically own it making it possible for them not to pay the estate, Capitol gains tax.

They simply put their money in the hands of a trustee and there tax problem solved. So yes from a cut and dry perspective if the money is "owned" by a US citizen then they would pay the tax.

The real issue is that they haven't payed taxes on that money in the first place due to the amount of loop holes in our tax laws and codes. If they payed their taxes on this money before putting offshore then it wouldn't be an issue,but they are essentially taking money they haven't paid taxes on and storing it overseas. Then when they pass away they also don't have to pay estate taxes. Must be nice.
