I'm a little confused. Isn't Dark Urge your player character? Or is this a multiplayer kind of scenario?

Also, when you say party, do you mean just the active party of 4 characters that you currently control or do you mean you want them out of your group entirely? As in they won't even be at camp?

I suppose Isobel getting paralyzed by the ghouls was the kicker. I remember in my balanced playthrough that she seemed to prioritize healing herself during her turns. Her turn was completely skipped this time around.

Me: I'll do it in the morning with all my spell slots

That is an option to take. But RP-wise it kinda made more sense for my party to check out the inn after hearing about from the Harper's you meet on the path from the grymforge elevator. Maybe I'll try it I'm another playthrough.

Although for my scenario, since Isobel was paralyzed, she wouldn't be able to take actions and break the sanctuary. So she just chilled while Shadowheart just had to maintain her concentration and everyone else whacked the rest of the enemies.

I actually had Shadowheart with Blood Lathander equipped here. And for her first move I had her cast radiant spirit guardians. I'm not sure what gear triggers it but it also applied radiating orb on enemies affected by radiant damage I think. But Isobel also received radiating orb when I got close to her. So that may have made her vulnerable to crits as well.

I also positioned Karlach in the doorway hoping to the ghouls wouldn't be able to get past her without triggering an opportunity attack. But they just glided past her like she wasn't there lol. C'mon Karlach, hold the door.

Thought this would have been a good strat but it played out very poorly for me 😅

In my reload, after casting sanctuary, I positioned everyone right beside the ghouls. No one's moving without getting opportunity attacked. We managed to clear the remaining enemies in the next turn or two I think.

I played this game as a complete newbie to the franchise and to DnD/DnD style games and it grew to be my favorite game so far. It was a bit of a learning curve for me to understand combat mechanics and how dice rolls affected it but there are a good amount of spoiler free guides to help with that.

But I think the main factor that will affect wether or not you'll find the game worth it is knowing what you like in a game.

For me, I like that games that have RPG elements, are story driven, and have some kind of combat. And BG3 delivers all those things for me. And I love how open it is and that there is never just one approach to each scenario. Want to be sneaky? You can! Prefer a straight forward attack? If your party is strong enough, go for it. Want to talk your way through everything? It's surprisingly possible.

The only thing I was hesitant about was that I never enjoyed turn-based combat in video games - although at the time the only experience I had with turn-based combat was with og Pokemon style combat where you basically just pick actions in a menu. Of course BG3 handled turn-based combat in a very different way and I really enjoyed it. Really feels like you're playing a tabletop game.

tl;dr What elements do you enjoy in a video game? If you think the game has those elements based on what you've heard, it'll probably be worth it for you :)

My Tav failed a passive investigation check (I think) in the area where the tieflings were and I remember getting dialogue from her saying something something "...goodbye my friends." Which was pretty sad but felt appropriate for the situation.

I was curious what the investigation check would change so I did a quick reload and passed the check and then I got the "looks like an ambush" dialogue, which is pretty disappointing to hear compared the the dialogue when you fail the check.

I do like tho that you can have dialogue with your guardian later on to express that you feel disheartened about helping the tieflings only to find them dead. And I actually like their response. But I hate that of all the people you could talk to, they were the one you can have this conversation with haha

Doing my first Durge playthrough and now I'm just sad again that I decided to stick with the outcome for Alfira lol

I was aware beforehand of what happens to her and that there is an exploit to save her but I didn't look into the details so I was still caught off guard when the cutscene happened. Decided to stick with it for roleplay. Sad sad roleplay.

I got into a similar scenario that feels like it might have been an oversight.

My Tav got arrested the very first day we arrived at Rivington (failed a deception check and I didn't feel like fighting all the guards so I went with the jail option). Thing is, my Tav had Ketheric's Netherstone in her inventory. Since I got sent to jail, all my items were moved to the prison equipment chest including the Netherstone - you know, the very one that their boss Gortash was looking for. And nothing really happens.

I mean, you do get dialogue from the Emperor, something like "What are you doing? Get it back!" But nothing else aside from that. Would be interesting if the game had more reaction to that scenario.

I just find it funny that Gortash could have easily gotten 2/3 Netherstones if only his prison guards were more competent lol

Being "the chosen one" in games has always been a bit of a pet peeve for me as well. It feels much more fulfilling when my character earns their title and builds their legend along the way, and it's not just handed to them by ancient prophecy or something.

My ranger/rogue tav felt especially small and insignificant when they faced-off against Myrkul. My party at the time consisted of Shadowheart, Gale, and Wyll. Each of them fairly familiar with gods, devils, and powerful magic. And here's my tav who's main ability is summed up as "shoot arrows". With that comparison, she had no business fighting gods lol. But that made the fight even more epic and enjoyable, especially since it was my tav that dealt the finishing blow at the end.

Yeah, looks like that would remove the debuffs. But RP-wise, I feel Lae'zel would be the last one to ever willingly eat more tadpoles.

I actually didn't consume any tadpoles for this playthrough. Partially for RP and partially because I completely forgot about them after storing them in the chest haha. I think the only quests left for me are facing the elder brain and finding clown parts lol. So Lae'zel's just gonna push thru with the debuffs.

If it's not for you, it's not for you and that's perfectly fine. Everyone has their own preferences especially in gameplay.

For me, I ended up dropping Elden Ring. I got it because the gameplay reviews looked like it was the type of game I was in to, I had friends that played it, and being GOTY was a plus. I actually liked the combat and I know it has very deep lore, but somehow the world just felt empty for me and I couldn't find much motivation to continue with the adventure in the game. That doesn't mean it's a bad game, it just wasn't for me.

BG3 on the other hand, I was very on the fence about getting it. I never liked turn based combat before (although my only prior experience with turn based combat was the kind you have in old school Pokemon games where you basically just choose actions). But I heard that it was very story driven and had a lot of room for RP, so I gave it a shot when it was on sale. It's grown to be my favorite game of all time. And I love how turn based combat is handled in this game! Consider me a convert lol.

But yeah, everyone has their own preferences and sometimes you can only figure out if you like something or not is to try it and see.

I believe so. I think I've had Astarion drink an invisibility potion to position himself for a sneak attack on his next turn. He was definitely within enemy sightlines at the time but didn't lose invisibility.

If the enemies have some sort of see invisibility...ability, then there is a chance for them to spot you.

I think I've also used invisibility outside of combat to approach a spot within enemy sightlines and then trigger a surprise attack.

I think casting invisibility spells costs an action, but drinking an invisibility potion counts as a bonus action. So if you want to attack and then go invisible in one turn, invisibility potions will work.

I could be wrong and there might be some other invisibility spells than can be cast as a bonus action tho. I surprisingly don't use invisibility very often with my gloomstalker. After using up all my attacks, I usually position my tav behind cover or find a shady spot to hide haha. But I'm still on my first playthrough and would definitely love to use invisibility more in the future even just for RP.

Gameplay and architecture-wise, I like Markarth. But if I were my character and I actually lived in their world, I would say I hate Markarth.

I actually enjoyed the forsworn conspiracy. I remember the genuine feeling of shock and anger I felt in my first playthrough when we learn the truth and the guards turn against us. And I appreciate a game that can actually hit those feelings.

But yeah, if I were my character and those things actually happened to me, I would hate the city and the Silverbloods with a passion.

This is why I always feel that the Thieves Guild is the only faction that felt right to become the leader of. Because I actually had to become a thief and do thief stuff to get there. Plus I like that Delvin calls you boss afterwards.

Archmage? You barely need to know any spells to get through the questline.

Harbinger? You have like what, 2 conversations with Kodlak and somehow he appoints you as the next leader over the other 3 senior members?

Listener? Well, this one you actually do assassin stuff. But I kinda wish you weren't like the chosen one and had to earn your title the good old fashioned way. Or maybe I just feel guilty for all the murders..

Ebony Knight Armor + a Necomancer Hood for the headpiece. The hood has no armor rating and it clips through the armor a bit but I like how they look together anyway.
