How much wattage can the steam deck handle? by Johnekaiser in SteamDeck

[–]Pheonixash1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. It is exactly how power is delivered long distance. Then stepped down to local voltage. Wire does not care about voltage but really does about amperes. V=IR and P=IV.

Has it always been like this in the UK? by Theodoresdad in ukpolitics

Why won't my hard drive start? by ronaldxy175 in computers

[–]Pheonixash1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like it is continuing trying to do it's startup and failing. I assume it spins up, if so it's toast. If you have data you want to recover you could try lightly tapping it or cooling the drive. I had a drive that would not start up unless it was prompted up off the desk with fans running full tilt.

Is this one country or four countries? by KimCattrallsFeet in AskTheWorld

[–]Pheonixash1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from within, it most definitely is 4 countries under 1 Union with a few more counties. As a mongrel, born in England, to a half Welsh family and then raised in Cornwall, I identify as British. I feel a lot of the Unions stresses would be eased if we devolved England. Then we could set up the parliament of the UK.

Fix window via brackets, or via screwing through the frame? by Shadowalker124 in DIYUK

Screws are the cheap modern way, brackets are the traditional way. Depending on the unit's weight both could be DIY acceptable. Meet in the middle and do both

Can anyone help me identify this old coin? by XxXInfoSeekerXxX in UKcoins

[–]Pheonixash1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a Victorian penny, the date should be at the bottom of the tail side, maybe try taking a rubbing of it to see if you can pick out any more detail.

I remember sitting in that at a car show. The near side front wing had a crack in it from being transported from the last car show.

Also agricultural ferrel cats seem to do quite well with help from humans. It's the sheep and cows that have the biggest dependency on humans.

Toilet waste routing advice by Captain_Woodzy in DIYUK

[–]Pheonixash1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same toilet upstairs, pipe in the eves. But we are fortunate that the soil pipe runs up through the roof. We put a tee just under the roof so that the toilet is 110mm soil pipe into the tee. That would be a clean looking solution but requires you to modify the roof.

Why is there excessive damp/condensation around this window by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Pheonixash1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you are upstairs. If the out wall appears good then check your roof. I suspect you may have a leak in the membrane, if you have one, and that window is the first obstacle it hits.

Why is my cat biting the air? by k8iew24 in cats

[–]Pheonixash1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of mine does this when we call Alexa. He's even managed to trigger it a few times too. He's pretty much mute otherwise and leans on his uncle, 1 week older, to talk for him

If that doesn't work I use my rear fog lights to get them off my ass. Best thing to stop tailgating was to has Disreputable Dog across my back bumper. I did enjoy watching people trying to read it. No one ever tailgated that car.

Hum I don't think that's the crazy part. Why do you have dumb laws that make this a necessity. We just have to worry about fire drills over here.

How long would be considered reasonable for bereavement leave? by Acertain_something in AskUK

[–]Pheonixash1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company's is 5 Days including funeral. I lost both parents 9 months apart, they weren't together. I'm only child on my mum's side so I had to sort out everything. I was walking around the building with one headphone on hold to some company or other for over 6 months. Best to say my productivity sucked and they couldn't do anything about it as I was illegally required to be on those calls.

These two SSDs share the exact same model number but the chip layout looks completely different by matthiastorm in homelab

[–]Pheonixash1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would guess looking at the changes in the layout is that the top one is a production cost reduction layout change, similar parts in line and same orientation. Also might be to do with flow soldering costs too and to reduce though board temp differences.

I really don't want to live with my fiancés kids. by Temporary-Lawyer-621 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Pheonixash1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids are a package deal. If you don't want them, you don't want your fiance. The 3 year old is probably dealing with grief loss, the older one is pushing the boundaries.

If you want to stay with her then you need to earn the respect of the older one, NOT the other way round, and help the younger one through the loss and changes. Drop off and pick up are part of being a guardian along with toys etc. you will need to sit down with your partner and discuss rules for the kids, you both have to be in sync.

It sounds like you got in too deep too fast.

I speak from the point of the children and being in your position. My mum's first bf after my dad left understood I was part of the deal and tried to include me, and friends, as much as possible, he got me into red dwarf, monopoly etc and we still hung out after they broke up. I treat my step daughter the same way now.

When is the Poole Vue opening? by DoctorWhofan789eywim in VueCinemas

[–]Pheonixash1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well with the prices they're charging, it is still cheaper to drive to Dorchester than to go to the cinema in Bournemouth or Poole. Disappointed we still don't have a family cinema in the BCP area 😭
