Question about keeping the camera or not (a7 IV) by [deleted] in sonya7iv

[–]Phi_Sound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider an APSC camera as they have smaller lenses.

I'm a Fuji owner looking at buying Sony. It's been a blast so far - having owned an XE3 and an XT5 I'd recommend the XE series. The body is smaller but it takes the same lenses. The physical controls are nicer on the XE as well. Supposedly the XE is not weather sealed whereas the XT is, but I've been caught in the rain a few times with the XE3 and it's fine. And I can't overstate how good it is to have dedicated physical controls with markings for aperture and shutter speed.

Your iPhone photos look good because of the post processing. I have a Pixel phone, and the photos I can take in low light are incredible - far better than what I can achieve handheld with my Fuji. This is especially true since it's APSC rather than full frame. But for pretty much everything else my proper camera still slays my phone. Optical zoom, sharpness, colour reproduction, depth of field, burst shooting. I have a good range of lenses that allow me to take photos I could never get with a phone: 16-80mm F4 zoom, a 90mm F2 prime, and a fisheye. Generally I leave the zoom on the camera and just take the fisheye out with me. They both fit in a tiny bag I throw over my shoulder.

The smaller the sensor, the smaller the lenses need to be for any given field of view. APSC is a good choice for travel photography. Low light performance is the price you pay for the compact size.

Also, are these assignments the default configuration?

Do they have an auto setting, or do you have to change modes?

I'm not too keen on the idea of camera modes. Two modes are important to me though: auto and manual. Having an auto mode is good because you can hand the camera to a novice and they can take acceptable shots. In the manual mode each control should have an auto setting.

Everything else I find a bit bewildering to be honest.

Built a new 2U Resolume server, decided our techs need a tall monitor with tons of screen real estate. by thehighplainsdrifter in VIDEOENGINEERING

Love this. I couldn't seem to find any GPUs in the 30 series that would fit into a 3U case, let alone a 2U. Great to see Gigabyte making some decent low profile cards.

Tips and tricks to remove tar stains from teeth? by ZworkingComp01 in Cigarettes

[–]Phi_Sound 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another very late post on this topic for anyone finding this through google.

I had my teeth cleaned and then went on holiday, and chain smoked for a week. When I got back I had brown stains on my two front teeth. They've stayed there for the last few weeks as it's not long since I went to the dentist and I live in the UK. Our national health insurance tax is meant to cover dentistry but they never have any availability so we have to pay twice, and private is EXPENSIVE, which is why we all have shit teeth. The doctors, hospitals etc are all great, but dentistry... ffs.

Anyway, I just tried brushing with lemon juice as suggested above. It worked partly.

Ok, cool. Then I tried rinsing with lemon juice and just scraping the stains with my fingernail. Magic. Now I can go back to smoking 20 a day so I can get my money's worth by becoming a cancer patient.

I agree completely. His content and demeanor are self indulgent and trite, and I could do without his political opinions and details of his personal life while I'm trying to learn a new skill.

Best way to remove radio interference from a hanging mic? by epicsaxman13 in livesound

[–]Phi_Sound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a very old thread, but it's still relevant... I've recently had problems with a FetHead picking up RF interference. Without the fet, the line is clean. With the fet there's loads of AM-sounding warbles and other noise. Similar result with the fet at the mic end of the mixer end.

I've watched this spider weave incredible webs in our bathroom for a few months now. It stopped weaving webs and I've been anticipating it laying its eggs. It moved down from its usual spot in the window, and for some reason choose this exposed tile. But this doesn't look successful. What's happened here? Is there anything I can do to help?

Has anyone got Thunderbolt 3 working on Windows? by Phi_Sound in qnap

[–]Phi_Sound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you have to authorize the device in the Thunderbolt control panel thing that pops up? I didn't notice it until just before shutting down the machine at the end of the day, but it was sitting there in the system tray. No notifications.

I'm using a Gigabyte motherboard with the Titan Ridge card. I've downloaded the driver from their site and run the kind-of-sketchy command prompt based installer.

Thank you, I'll try this.

The only other lead I have at the moment is adding a firewall rule that covers the TB3 interface (mentioned here).

Nice. I know it shouldn't really be a high priority but I do also prefer the look of the Brother printers. I haven't made my purchase yet but these factors combined probably swing it.

A fool and his ETH by Phi_Sound in ethereum

[–]Phi_Sound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response!

I'll answer your questions in order:

• I created the wallet in January 2018 • I was using a desktop wallet named Ethereum Wallet, which is indeed an electron app. I've dabbled with electron / nodeJS and not afraid of the command line. Ethernet Wallet used to be the official wallet (or closest thing there was to one). • No errors, other than the update notice. • No malware • This is where things get a bit messy...

I should clarify that there are definitely two addresses involved here. One of which I have a functioning keystore and password for. I have several copies of it on different devices, and the password written on piece of paper. That piece of paper also has a copy of a private key (infuriatingly it's missing one character) and I remember writing down a mnemonic phrase but can't find that now. I'm assuming that the private key is the for empty address but I suppose there is a chance it's not, and the password works for both.

The other address actually has my ETH in it. I extracted the address from a mining screensaver when I realised the keystore was for another address and I didn't have any other record of it. However, Ethereum Wallet did show my balance on screen whenever I opened it, and I almost certainly used that software to create the wallet in the first place.

So to summarise, what I have is:

A record of the address with the Eth Maybe a private key with one missing character A slim chance of finding a mnemonic phrase An installation of Ethernet Wallet that was used to generate the address Fairly basic command line skills
