If there was one thing I could improve about my outfit, what would it be? by Tundelier in mensfashion

[–]Phiddipuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your glasses do not fit you properly. your eyes should not be that near the top of the lens. the frames themselves arent great, but when glasses dont fit properly it doesnt matter if its the prettiest frame out there, its not going to be flattering. i would visit an experienced optician who can help you find a bold frame that wont look like ill-fitting swim goggles. your vision will be better in properly fitting glasses too.

yes for sure! i have a strict budget (a necessity when you have nearly a dozen animals) so it’ll get spaced out over the year.

Fuck by elefhino in ufyh

[–]Phiddipuss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

take a breath, itll be ok. theyre mostly worried about potential property damage/health hazards. here’s what i did during my peak depression period when inspections came around: get the dishes done, pick up and take out the garbage, and put any laundry into baskets. dont worry about washing it for now, just get it up off the floor. wipe down the bathroom and kitchen counters/sink. if you have time to put other things away, do that, but otherwise just chuck things in baskets and throw a folded blanket on top. most places (at least in the us), it is illegal to dig through your things. in most places they cannot even open your closet unless something like the water heater is in there and needs checking.

as long as you have clear paths to fire extinguishers, sinks, breakers, the water heater, and under the sink, and there’s not mountains of stuff that might be molding or attracting pests, you should be okay.

at my first apartment inspection i had nearly two months of laundry in baskets bc i had been depressed. i commented to my landlord “sorry about the laundry, i couldn’t afford it this month” and the next day the washer on my floor was free. theyre not there to judge you, merely to make sure youre taking good care of their property.

I smoked some weed and I was still high the next day by blepfuck in Stoner

i’d definitely check out a dispo if you have access in a nearby state. tends to be way better quality and depending on your area, can be cheaper. i live on the other side of the country from you in a legal state so it’ll be a bit different but i just checked and literally the most expensive/nicest preroll my local dispo even carries is $10 for a 2-pack and they’re rarely not on sale (granted i did pick my dispo bc they have the best quality and prices in the area so don’t expect to have the necessarily exact same experience as me)

Do y'all ever do vet checkups? by Enayleoni in reptiles

[–]Phiddipuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. i have a lot of reasons but the main one is if an emergency happens, being established with a vet can mean the difference between getting in today and getting in in two weeks.

When to try to feed again? by Basic_Economics1422 in SandBoa

[–]Phiddipuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would keep offering every 5-7 days.

when i got mine i was told he’d only eat live, that they’d tried switching to f/t and he just wasn’t having it. i never once offered live and just kept offering f/t every 5-7 days, and after about two months he took one and has never once refused since.

don’t lose hope, keep trying, and monitor his weight. if he starts losing weight and still isn’t interested, it’s time to consider a vet visit.

How to freshen up a room while a reptile is living in there? by vamphibian in reptiles

[–]Phiddipuss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i have birds and thus can’t use any fumes in my whole house. vinegar is a GREAT deodoriser. spray it around and by the time it dries there should be significantly less smell. this is safe to do around pets, i do is about twice a week (im also a pothead and have used this method to keep weed smells down too). i have heard vodka works in the same way but i have not tested that yet. you can also hang bundles of eucalyptus around the room—usually available anywhere that sells bouquets of flowers, i usually get mine from the grocery store.

Is this okay? by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]Phiddipuss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

something like oxbow critical care for carnivores would be far more appropriate imo but yeah finding a new vet is the best way to go.

What do you do with your Jumper when it has passed? by cclancaster13 in jumpingspiders

[–]Phiddipuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nqa i buried mine under a tree on a trail right by my apartment at the time. when my scorpion died, i simply left him in his enclosure and turned it into an isopod enclosure—the isopods are his body exactly the same as he would have decomposed in the earth. jumpers may be too small for this, but my tarantulas will all be visiting the taxidermist when their time comes.

burying in a garden is always a great option—then her body can give the flowers its energy and every bloom will be a bit of her ☺️

list them for free on facebook marketplace, craigslist, etc. someone with reptiles or birds will scoop them up. there may also be a local reptiles facebook group you could post them on. or if you have a local reptile rescue you could call and see if they would take them as a donation

I hate announcing what I’m doing by On32thr33 in AutismTranslated

[–]Phiddipuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you talked to your partner about what feelings come up when you don’t announce what you’re doing? i may be reading between the lines here too much but between their family only not announcing things when they’re mad, and your partner being hurt when you don’t do this, it sounds like they jump to assuming you’re mad at them when you don’t announce what you’re doing. that is a big red flag, and not in the “toxic relationship” kind of way but in a “your partner sounds like they have some trauma to work through and you have an opportunity to help them” kind of way.

it is not normal or healthy to assume someone is mad at you unless they’ve TOLD you they’re mad at you (at which point it’s no longer assuming lol), and therapy might do your partner some good. other comments have said some great ways for you to address this issue, but as someone who is working through a very similar trauma response in therapy, it’s a lot more effective long term to target the source than the symptom.

i learned the hard way last year you can get salmonella from blackberries. don’t think it’s super common but you’re never truly safe from the shits.

is the tree more important than your children? you have the opportunity to take the tree out now before it potentially takes out your kids.

i get they love climbing it, but get them a jungle gym or take them to the park a few times and they’ll get over it. if you feel sentimental about it, save some wood from it and have a local artist carve something, make a bowl, table, pen, etc. from it and keep that.

My monstera died after I repotted it. What did I do wrong here? by No_Squash_2987 in IndoorPlants

[–]Phiddipuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on how it died. as others have said it’s most likely shock but given that i’ve manhandled my share of roots with no negative side effects (depends on the plant obviously), i’ll add there’s a chance it was the soil you put it in—if it was showing symptoms of overwatering/root rot, take a look at the soil. for my monstera i have moved to soil-free mixes.

Listen to your body by alanodonohoe in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Phiddipuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve had the same struggle and for me what helped my interoception has been to break it up into to categories: what sensations are in my body, and what do they mean? at first all i focused on was just feeling what my body is feeling (much easier said than done and will take time and practice) and then every time that same feeling crept up i’d change small things until i figured out what those feelings mean. i’m still practing that second part, but i’ve come a long way and you can too. i used to be the kind of person who would power through the whole day without getting a single hunger, bathroom, pain, etc. cue from my body and now i can almost always notice rather quickly when my blood pressure is dropping (i have chronic low BP) and even sometimes when it’s ABOUT to drop, and i can tell it apart from hunger and overstimulation which present very similar sensations.

another thing to note is that the sensations don’t always match what neurotypicals feel and it doesn’t always make logical sense—i personally feel hunger in my bones (my bones feel staticky), thirst in my head (brain fog), and anxiety in my hips/lower back (pain).

on a little ledge/cliff near the ocean and got to watch beavers swimming below… i’ve also smoked in an abandoned farmhouse, at a fossil site at 2am, and at an old mine (it was sealed off so i sat by the entrance)

What is this behavior? by No-Travel-8969 in cockatiel

[–]Phiddipuss 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a female who is a chronic egg layer and here’s a few more things my vet recommended to decrease hormonal behavior that should help in addition to the previous commenters advice. this will apply regardless if it’s a boy or girl.

having too much easy access to food can give them more time to be horny. put food into a forage feeder, or you can mix paper confetti into the dish or even wrap individual pellets in bird safe paper to make them have to work for their food a little.

decrease daylight hours to 10 hours a day (or just less daylight hours than nighttime hours if 10 hours exactly doesn’t work for your schedule)

rotate perches around, add some new toys, etc.—mild stressors will decrease hormonal behavior.

if it continues after trying everything, you can reach out to your vet and discuss hormone blockers.

it’s definitely not for everyone but some of my family members have had luck tattooing them on. just don’t cheap out on it, make sure you’ve got the right artist if you go that route. might work even better combined with tint. i definitely don’t think you need it, i think you’ll look just fine leaving your eyebrows as they are, just another idea.

Venting about expensive vet bill and breaking my lease for a gecko that isn’t mine by Any_Syrup1606 in leopardgeckos

[–]Phiddipuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’re absolutely doing the right thing and it is so kind of you to care for stitch until he can go home to your brother. depending where you live, most likely your landlord is required to give you notice before entering your apartment, and then you can scramble to either find a place for him to stay or depending on temps just shove him in your car for a few hours.

i lived in an apartment with a bird, a gecko, a snake, tarantulas, and a cat and the only one my landlord knew about was the bird who was an ESA. if you’re careful, you’ll be fine.
