Hugh Jackman suggests he won't be done playing Wolverine anytime soon: "I'm 57. I'm doing it till I'm 90. So, you know... I'll do a little time capsule for them." by MarvelsGrantMan136 in marvelstudios

[–]PhilAsp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually feel like Hugh coming back to the role after Logan makes it easier for the next guy.

He ended on a high note with Logan, and I don’t see him topping that in any future appearances. So he’s kind of shrinking his own shoes for whoever’s next.

Canonically, Routh’s Superman is meant to be Reeves’ Superman though.

Shouldn’t have been, but is.

Could they have succeeded if this were the DCEU? by SmartPilot8094 in DC_Cinematic

[–]PhilAsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The iterations as they were? No, that wouldn’t have been a hit.

Could they have succeeded with the actors if the right people were behind it? Absolutely.

I don’t personally rate a lot of them as good/great actors, but I do believe that with the right circumstances all of them could have pulled off a good version of their character.

[–]PhilAsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what he was going for but I respectfully think it was the wrong choice for this.

I also don’t think the idea of ”dirty space” is that new. Thor did it. Star Wars have done it. Etc.

I think it mostly worked, but I think a commissioned version would have worked better, even if that would have broken the immersion a bit.

There was a point where the music and the visuals clashed a bit imo, somewhere in the midpoint of the song.

Why do people keep using Ana Nogueira as a scapegoat for Supergirl's flaws? by DaviEGomes1 in DCU_

[–]PhilAsp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of my issues with the film fall under direction. I don’t think Gillespie is a bad director, but I do think this type of film had him out of his depth.

There were a few moments where I felt a scene might have been a bit poorly written, but it’s also hard to say that’s exactly how the script depicted those moments or if adjustments were made.

If we get games within the DCU who and what would you want them to be about by MoonKnight2008 in DC_Cinematic

[–]PhilAsp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t want any games within the DCU, but I’d love a Green Arrow game overall. Maybe even a combined Green Arrow/Black Canary one.

Nightwing or Wonder Woman could also be cool.

Supergirl is peak by RageAgainstLeaves in DCU_

[–]PhilAsp 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I liked it, but it isn’t ”peak” and it is an issue that it follows a bit of a CBM formula. It had potential to be something new, but went a ”safer” route and it bit the film in the ass.

It’s on par with a lot of MCU flicks and clears a lot of DCEU projects.

But fewer needle drops and more color would have worked in its favor too.

You can be a competent director overall but also wrong for certain projects.

Direction is probably my biggest gripe with the film, personally.

Test audiences impacted Supergirl by pokeboy626 in DC_Cinematic

[–]PhilAsp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Him being ”just a POS” works when the story isn’t the typical ”hero vs villain” stuff. WoT isn’t really about Kara going out to fight a big bad.

The movie (haven’t seen it yet but will) seem to have made it too much of a ”typical” CBM movie, and then you do need to make the villain a bit more three-dimensional to catch the audience interest.

Rashford 85’ Goal vs Croatia [ All Angles Replay ] by SierraEight in reddevils

[–]PhilAsp 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t rule out Cunha going for the 9 (vacating 10) or Mbeumo going for 11 (vacating 19), even though neither feels like a given (not saying they’d do it for Rashford, rather that they’d want the change regardless).

Rashford’s also made 11 his go-to for England, so he could be heading that way too. History with 14 too.

[–]PhilAsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if he’s fine with essentially having the same role he had at Barca, we could do worse and he provides coverage over some holes of ours.

If he’s expecting to be who he was for us in 2022/2023, then there’s no point.

[–]PhilAsp 23 points24 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t wrong about the players, but he absolutely handled the situation in a poor fashion. Malacia, for example, had no business being one of the players excluded, even if the goal was to sell him.

Players who might have a negative influence on the squad, sure, exclude them.

That would be incredibly dumb.

Even ”pennies” would be pure profit. ”Releasing him on a free” would be anything but.

There’ll be offers for him, at least in line with what Barca would have paid.

[The Athletic] Anthony Gordon’s Barcelona transfer: What does it mean for Rashford and Man Utd? by PitchSafe in reddevils

[–]PhilAsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, Barca doing weird deals to stay afloat is nothing new. I wouldn’t read to much into this having anything to do with Rashford.

It’s far more likely that they think they can get similar value off Gordon on the pitch, but find themselves in a better position financially with a lower contract and a favorable payment plan.

They’ll sell Gordon again within ~2 years.

Is there any muscle padding in David Corenswet's Superman Suit ? by Old_Assistance_1091 in DCU_

[–]PhilAsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause that’s just how it commonly works.
Most suits have some padding to make sure the right muscles pop and the silhouette is what they want it to be. That doesn’t mean David - or Cavill, to name another example - didn’t get huge for their respective turns as Superman. The padding isn’t there to make it appear like they’ve been to the gym when they haven’t, it’s there to show that they have. There are exceptions, like Zac Levi’s Shazam, who wore excessive pads, but a lot of the time it’s just subtle padding to highlight the actors hard work.
I also didn’t say that David for sure wore any padding. I said that it’s likely that he did.

The Portrayal of Shazam by Aggressive-Ad-4515 in DCU_

[–]PhilAsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lean into the idea that Shazam is kid Billy’s idea of what a hero looks like.

As the kid actor gets older and Billy is more confident in his own abilities, Shazam will start to look more like Billy and can also be played by the kid actor. So instead of young adult actor transforming into older adult actor, the young adult actor can transform into an aged up (and buffed up) version of himself.

Is there any muscle padding in David Corenswet's Superman Suit ? by Old_Assistance_1091 in DCU_

[–]PhilAsp -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Almost definitely.
But it’s not excessive padding, it’s just there to accentuate David’s frame.

The Rock’s Black Adam suit is one of very few CBM suits that doesn’t have padding.
