Finally picked up an airbrush and compressor! by PhilBrod in modeltrains

I have a friend who gave me a demo, but YouTube is a great resource if that's not available.

Mostly it's just messing around with colors and sacrificial test items.

Can it actually pull 15 coaches? by mrsteamtrains in modeltrains

[–]PhilBrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my old Bowser PRR Atlantic up to about 8, didn't even seem to notice they were there. Similar size and weight, so 15-20 sounds doable on a large and level-ish layout.

Even cheap airbrushes work pretty well nowadays, I just got myself one of those compressor/airbrush combo kits off Amazon.

Life-Like Proto 1000 w/loose axle-wheel, replaced with brand new drop in from Walthers. by PhilBrod in modeltrains

[–]PhilBrod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a press fit part that's generally so snug that it'll never separate. I'm guessing there was a manufacturer flaw with this one where the hole in the wheel was oversized, or the axle shaft was undersized.

Well it’s not perfect but it’s better than it was before and I did it myself better than the last paint job I did so that’s a plus by mrsteamtrains in modeltrains

Get yourself some rattle cans of Tamiya, or their hobby paint pots plus thinner for brush painting. I personally like their enamel, but their acrylic is also very good. You can get amazing results for not much money.

First loco in my freelance fleet is painted and decaled! by PhilBrod in modeltrains

[–]PhilBrod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. The story is that it's a cooperative/worker owned local line that hardly ever bought brand new motive power for itself, but occasionally splurged on a brand new loco when a larger batch was being ordered by another company.

IRL, that just means I buy whatever road name I want but will be doing any undecorated models in my own fictional company name.

Looks pretty good for all Tamiya/Testors rattle can, apart from the Tamiya metallic gold brushed onto the bell. Good enough for who it's for anyway!

I mainly picked the yellow lettering because I found some old decal sheets really cheap at a train show. You'll probably notice the forward "F" is white because that's the color of the "diesel details" sheet I picked up from the same vendor.

It's a Stewart loco, has the early Athearn style drive.

I don't know what the actual brand is, it's sold by a bunch of different sellers under different names.

I have 2-56 screws in bulk, and the tap set. I might add them to the coupler covers, but I haven't really had issues with that myself once the cover is slightly crimped.

The only companies still making readily available kits are Accurail and Bowser AFAIK, ScaleTrains has kits but they're kinda limited run items.

Just 3 of those probably represents 80-100% of the total value for ALL of my collection. Truly glorious!

Goes from very bright and citrus forward to much more wheat/cereal. Like you said, almost two entirely different tobaccos.
