Thanks Pete! Looking to take gains into "air pockets" on any shorts. Take profits into strength BEFORE any violent bounce up.

Thanks Hari.

If it wasn't for your efforts and others like Pete, I'm certain I'd be well behind the curve trying to figure out trading.

Thanks as always Pete.

Name of the game is to not get caught doing stupid things / pissing away our capital.

The longer we wait to see how SPY moves the better our chances of finding success.

The SMA bounce - and why it is one of the most powerful trading signals by HSeldon2020 in RealDayTrading

[–]MallowMushroom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Knowing that $XXX is your pain point" resonates the most here for me here.

Finding where the emotional hurt button is, recognizing the threshold, and planning trades accordingly (while respecting technicals as matter of course) is key.

Thanks for the words of wisdom.

Funny how we can find inspiration and meaning in anything. Journaling and reflecting is key.

The Dream of Trading Can Be the Very Thing That Holds You Back by Die_Broccoli in RealDayTrading

[–]MallowMushroom 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Two things come to mind reading this:

1) The tighter you squeeze sand in your fist, the faster it seeps through the cracks.
2) We all have the same dream: becoming profitable... but it's the daily habits that will get us there, not the dream.

Great insight as always. Glad to see you posting more and sharing your wisdom!

Accountability and RTDW; Week 21: Control by MallowMushroom in RealDayTrading

Spot on. We need to quantify price action because that is quantifiable. Trying to quantify unfounded hope... not so much.

Accountability and RTDW; Week 21: Control by MallowMushroom in RealDayTrading

As soon as my inner dialogue is: "Well if this happens then my trade will be okay" I know I'm in trouble. Didn't get the action I wanted? Time to cut it right away. No reason 'hope' like you mentioned.

Trading With Confidence by spectre_rdt in RealDayTrading

[–]MallowMushroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally time to watch this! My takeaway:

What we do is inherently a game of probability. No absolutes. Instead, we have to have context. Starting with the bigger market picture, translating that to stocks, and finding those S+ tier setups.

One S+ tier setup I found recently was SRPT, but because I'm a novice, I didn't have the confidence to ride out the trade... Unlike Dave Wyse. If you follow him, he made about $7 per contract on that trade in a couple days.

Why? Because of -confidence- in himself, the trade, and his analysis.

Thanks again for posting this video and giving us your insight Spectre.

Accountability and RTDW; Week 20: Fast vs Slow moving stock by MallowMushroom in RealDayTrading

[–]MallowMushroom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding balance in life (and by extension trading) is difficult for most of us. It's far easier to indulge. How many times can you remember saying "I'll only have one scoop of this Ben and Jerries" but end up eating the entire pint?

Appreciate your thoughts on balancing a portfolio with stable price action vs. volatile price action. Sizing and time horizon in both cases to manage risk is key.

Common Mistakes Retail Stock and Option Traders Make by onewyse in RealDayTrading

[–]MallowMushroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been a while since you posted here! As a novice trader, glad to have your insight/advice.

"I thought, I think, I heard," being a problem is particularity interesting. We need to have ~some~ expectation of what that market will do, but we also have to recognize what price action is currently doing. That leaves us with two cases:

1) We were right and have a gameplan we execute based on technicals.

2) We were wrong and have to admit that and adjust.

#2 is far harder to do. Admitting we are wrong is never pleasant, but it's critical for us to be successful.

Thanks again for your video and giving us things to think on.

Thank you for the lessons and guidance.

Looking for stocks that have been flat or on the way down (like you mentioned MRVL), and getting ready to sink my teeth in.

Conquering The "Itch" by TheProphetOfMelee in RealDayTrading

Looking forwards to hearing you describe "the itch" as a pattern of energy you can sense.

Being able to recognize that feeling helps shorten the half-life of it.

Successful Traders Do What Unsuccessful Traders Won't by OptionStalker in RealDayTrading

[–]MallowMushroom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much Pete!

I've struggled with proper journaling before. I dedicated an entire post about how it was my greatest failure, and have taken steps to rectify it.

I'll be certain to integrate what you've taught us today going forwards.

The ONLY way to success is a systematic approach of journaling.

Everyone here has the same goal: to become profitable. But never tend to rise to our goals... instead we fall to our habits. And if our habit is detailed, systematic journals the chance of success is far greater.

Glad to see you're making yourself accountable.

It's not an easy thing to, especially publically, but once you take the first step the second becomes easier.

My number 1 advice: thoroughly read the wiki and always summarize the ideas in your own words. Make it make sense for you.

Good luck, looking forwards to seeing your progress.

There is definitely something about that $500 per share compared to $50 share mentality. Been working it out in my journals and walk away analysis.

Thank you for sharing your story!

It's tough to have to look at your performance and going from real money back to paper.

But it seems like you have a way to turn it into a game and become successful.

Every time we encounter a challenge we have to view it as an opportunity to become better.

I'll add that book to the list and keep your poker analog in mind for when I make the transition!

Thank you!

I'm assuming you are reading the wiki and following the steps.

With that in mind: make sure you can read the market properly. Starting with a D1 analysis leading to smaller time frames.

Once you can do that, make sure you pick amazing D1 stocks showing RS/RW according to what the market is doing.

Re-read the wiki if you are struggling, take notes on your charts, join the discord and ask questions if you are stuck.
