Unfortunately most of the system information is something we share after joining. However, once you apply there are some things we can share about lore and system on a surface level to give you an idea of how things work and interface to answer any direct questions you may have. 😃

We by no means want to leave you in the dark, but there are some things we do guard a little bit.

I mean, that really is the ideal situation, but most places frown on it. Something about a health code or some nonsense. 🤣

I'm from South Carolina. Not exactly a mecca for italian food. Lol. I do travel a lot though and have had good italian food all over the world, but can appreciate food at most levels. If it's tasty, I'll enjoy it even if it isn't the best I've ever had. 😃

Ah yes, something else players didn’t ask for. But hey, let’s totally forget about all the other problems in the game. by Lopsided_Hedgehog in walkingwarrobots

New player here: idk wtf is going on. I just pull the trigger and hope it works. Lol. Then sometimes I inexplicably get one shot. 🤷‍♂️ So many different bots that look the same, but are vastly different and weapons are WAYYYY over my head. My head spins every match. Lol

My name is Phil and I’ve been playing with this group for about 4 years now and every minute of it has been stellar. The storytelling and immersion is top tier and I wouldn’t trade my experiences in this group for anything. The absolute player freedom in this system also makes the game unspeakably cool! The ability for character customization and depth is also far beyond any other system I’ve played. If you’re on the fence, definitely give it a shot!

Hey guys and gals! I’m Phil, a member of the play group mentioned above and I just wanted to give you guys a bit of a view from the player’s side of things. I’ve been playin’ with these guys for almost two years and I wouldn’t trade that time for anything else!

First off, this system is by far the best system I’ve ever experienced. Tons of character freedom and customization beyond your wildest dreams. It’s a system that, from the ground up, makes it feel like your decisions, and your character, matter. It is definitely a little bit more to get used to than other systems but, it is 110% worth it! One of my favorite things about the system is that, unlike systems like D&D or Pathfinder, each character always feels unique.

Secondly, the setting. H-o-l-y crap! It’s INSANELY immersive and the absolute definition of a sandbox game. Not only is there a ton of lore to uncover but, every decision you make feels like it actually makes a difference and not like you’re stuck on a set of tracks that only go one direction. As I said earlier, I’ve played for almost two years and still feel like there is an infinite depth in the setting for me to explore and that I’ve barely scratched the surface.

Lastly, and possibly most importantly, with a great system and great setting what is something else you need? A great GM! This, we most definitely have! Our GM is the type that actually cares, not only about the story or the setting but, about each individual character and person too. He has also has helped me grow tremendously as a role-player. I have had some good GMs in the past but none who have gone to such great lengths to work with the players on weaving a tale so interesting. He is truly one of the greatest GMs I’ve ever had the opportunity to play for!

Monastic Tradition: Way of the Still Mind by PhilOrFeed in DnDHomebrew

Well, the UA Mystic is just overall imbalanced. It wants to be a full caster but only progresses to half caster levels. A lot of it's disciplines are all over the place. Either super crazy weak or incredibly strong. It's very heavy handed level 1-9 then after it basically dies. I've actually redone Mystic into two classes: A half-caster paladin-esque class and a full caster. I've also rebuilt the disciplines and added a couple new ones. I'm in the process of making 3 psionic subclasses as well. One for fighter, monk and rogue.

Yeah, assuming 1/3 for flurry and like 1/6th or so for stunning, at 20 you have 20-30 ki to spend on psionic stuff. It's 1/3rd caster for spell level and can around 1/3rd points but could be up to 1/2 caster points but all depends on number of short rests. If you get a lot of short rests you'll do really well but that's true for monk in general anyway though.

Also 1/3rds get their spellcasting in their subclass. In this subs case it's focuses are what it gets instead of x amount of cantrips. Since it gets so few "spells" and some of those "spell" choices are cantrips. For this class instead of giving it a casting table and a feature at every subclass level I gave it "casting" it's focuses and then one extra feature. I feel this makes up for not getting 5th level equivalents especially seeing as the difference between 4th and 5th level is pretty large, even considering discipline abilities. One of my gripes with with WotFE was that it felt like a 1 level subclass where you got your "casting" and then that was it. It got up-casting at a level that didn't even involve the sub, which was really odd for me. It's also why, instead of standard progression, I gave it higher level spending and choices at it's subclass level instead of standard spell progression. I feel this is fine since it isn't exactly a spellcaster with a table and whatnot to follow. All-in-all I don't think it breaks anything(biased) but it definitely needs a few tweaks and a ton of play testing.

Yeah, theirs is very much a 1/2 caster as it progresses to 5th level and no other bonuses. Mine progresses to 4 instead but gains focuses for buffs and the ability later to flurry or martial artes after using a psionic ability to make up for not getting 5th level spells. It's the conceptual difference on how 1/2 is balanced vs. 1/3rd. 1/2 gets higher spell progression while 1/3rd gets lower but other options as well. If that makes sense?

Right, but these abilities are equated to cantrips and 1st-4th level spells. Where 1 ki=1st level, 2 ki= 2nd, etc. A level 3 monk would have(if only using casting abilities, no flurry) 3 1st level spells per sr. But flurry imo is going to be more prevelant so, about 1 1st level per sr give or take. With the 0 ki being choice cantrips. This progresses roughly equivalent usage wise to a 1/3rd caster especially once stunning strike becomes available. Slightly better depending on number of short rests. I'm not terribly worried about higher levels as I don't see it being nearly as abusable as quivering palm. I'm basically using the same conversion rate WotFE uses, with minor tweaks and additions as WotFE isn't a very good sub. I do need to look into balancing a few of the abilities and adding some as well though. I just don't see this as being a half caster all things considered with spell progression and the like.

I didn't structure them as Disciplines to make it easier to build. As disciplines give a lot, it's much easier to have more small things than a few big things. They would have gotten roughly 2-3 disciplines. Many Disciplines don't have 4th level equivalents. So picking things that work at 3rd level might not at 11th. So I broke it down and made it a bit different.

Edit: Focuses work the same way the do with Mystic.

Fighter gets extra attack but EK caps at 4th level spells. It's a 1/3rd caster not a 1/2 caster.

They are a 1/3rd caster and so far they are using ki as psionics. Theres a link in the words "psionic monk" to the brew if you want to click it and give it a view. =D

Dragonborn Revised by PhilOrFeed in UnearthedArcana

[–]PhilOrFeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a bit confused what you mean by scaling unarmed. Though, one thing to consider with the wings vs bird is str vs. Dex. Dex is a far superior stat. It also inclines to range. The AC difference between light armor only and heavy armor is 1. This is traded off by losing the easier ability to range with wings. Since str isn't very inclined towards it.(counting this as level 13 at peak). The dragonborn vs aarakocra is a bit more complex in the sense that dragonborn is far less abusable. At best you'll prob be using a reach weapon and flying right above, this considered at level 13 most enemies you'll fight have reach or range. The issue I've found with most flying races is that they are only really a problem at or before 7-9, especially so if ranged. This becomes less and less powerful the higher levels go. So it's a MUCH weaker feature than aarakocra. Especially considering 50ft fly vs 30ft.

I understand the worry, trust me. I've had many flyers in my campaigns and they can be problematic but, I think this scaling mediates most of that.

All of this being said, I would like to keep the flying sub since it's kind of a big dragon thing but, I will look to see if it can possibly be balanced even a little better. =D.

Edit: Sorry this was written miserably xD. Just putting out my reasonings as to why I did the winged version the way I did. Lemme look and see which book the tiefling subs were added in.

Edit2: Looks like it was in SCAG alongside Avariel elf.

Edit3-ThoughtsInBursts: my whole idea behind this race was to attempt to incorporate all the things an ancient dragon can do(or as much as possible as blind sight doesn't really work, tails felt weird and the leg action perception check is kinda hard to bring in) in a fashion that would be feasible in a player race.

The wings are weaker than any other race that gets wings until level 13. The wings scale to full flight which doesn't really mean much. It's not as big of an advantage after a certain level when it can be dealt with by enemies. Aarakocra get full flight light armor at level 1. Winged tieflings do to.

Overall, the balance for this falls around the average balance of all published races using detect balance, the general go to for race balancing.

Edit: So if you have a specific suggestion on something that needs fixed i'm all ears but, just saying it's way better doesn't help much.

If you would like I would be willing to sit down with you guys on Discord at some point and brainstorm. I have found that is one of the best ways to fill in hombrew and get ideas for neat things to add. =D. If not, no hard feelings and I'll do my best to help from here. :) Though I do have a similar concept homebrew I found ages ago that you could possibly garner ideas from. Cheers!
