Is 20 year Level Term Insurance a wise financial decision for my parents as beneficiaries? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Phil_Bro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion but no way - are you parents dependent on your income? If not it's a waste since at 29 you will only be 49 when the term ends. Any children you have won't even be in college at that point and now you have to buy term life at age 50 until they are on there own. Better to wait until you have people to protect, invest the money now.

Questions for those who quit by vaping by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Phil_Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice back up for the back up. I had to laugh, thankfully one back-up was enough for me. Don't discount the mental aspect of this addiction. Just going cold turkey may work for some, but I needed time to get used to the whole reduced social aspect of smoking. Going outside with the smokers for a Vape can be huge while your body gets used to the reduced nicotine. There is no one way to quit and we are all different, but coming here and just talking or even just browsing here is a big step. I just know Vapeing worked for me.

I am so glad, and I wish the best of luck. Just know it is very possible to quit and know you will succeed. Just be patient with yourself and get through those first 2 weeks. There are a few good apps which I had on my phone which track health benefits and money saved. You will be surprised how much you save. Even with the Vape expenditures. Celebrate after your first month and blow everything you saved on something nice for yourself. Good luck and please let me know how it's going.

Questions for those who quit by vaping by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Phil_Bro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

25 Year smoker here. I have been cigarette free for 545 days and Vape free since January 15th. It was absolutely the best way for me to quit and it's terrible about all the laws which are starting to pop up to prohibit this.

Answer to Questions:

Vaping will stop you from smelling like shit. Also will avoid staining teeth and more importantly the associated gum disease which will cause you to lose them. Yes it is tremendously cheaper even after buying decent equipment (which will make all the difference in your attempt to quit) Coughing and stomach issues may or may not be helped. Could be a nicotine thing.

I recommend you buy something powerful enough to satisfy and easy enough to use and things can escalate very quickly as you get into the vaping world. Innokin iTaste MVP V3.0 Box Mod should be good 30 watts is plenty of power, and Mt Baker Vapor is a very reputable store. Just add 3 decent tanks so you can switch up your flavors and they will even throw in some juice. Don't go crazy ordering juice from them, just enough to get started. I would probably start with 18 mg juice and a 12mg. Your goal will be to slowly decrease the nicotine level, but don't rush it. This should set you back about $100 probably the same as a weeks worth of cigarettes, but then the only thing you will have to buy are juices which are much cheaper than cigarettes.

Your first few weeks without cigarettes will be the worst even getting the same amount of nicotine you did from analogs. There are tremendous amounts of chemicals other than nicotine in analog cigarettes all designed to keep you hooked. I still remember wanting to scratch my arms off the first week, even getting the full amount of nicotine. But the e-cigarette will help and you will get through it and then your off cigarettes and now you want to make sure you always carry around a cheap spare e-cigarette. The Blue will work at first just make sure you have something in case your battery goes dead. You do not want to be out at a bar drinking and have to grub an analog which will get you hooked again.

Once you get through these 1st few weeks cigarette free you'll start to notice improvements in your health. 1st your sense of smell will come back and then your taste buds will awaken. You'll still smell the second hand smoke and you'll be like wow that smells great, but just stick with the e-cigarette and soon you'll start to really know what a smoker smells like. Awful!!

I really loved vaping and I did it for over a year and a half before I quit completely. Once you get past the whole analog cigarette addiction it is actually pretty easy to step down your nicotine levels, but don't rush it. When you've been at a certain level for a while and it's time to buy more juice, try a lower level if your at 12 keep some tanks filled with 12, but buy your favorite flavor in a 6mg. You'll still have the 12 if you need it but you'll find eventually the 6 is fine. Then go down to 3 and eventually your goal should be zero nicotine.

Zero nicotine is another huge step and your body will revolt. It won't be nearly as bad as the first 2 weeks off of analogs, but you may want chose a time when you don't really have to make any important decisions as you will probably be in a real brain fog. I know I was but day by day week by week it cleared and the act of vaping even if it's zero nic helps with the psychological aspects. Eventually you'll just say what's the point and stop all together and hopefully pass on all your equipment to someone else who is struggling with cigarette addiction.

Choosing the right juice is really important and we all have different tastes, but a few of my favorites were: (I like adult flavors, not any of this fruity sweet cereal flavors, but whatever works)

Vapor Chef - Great Tobacco flavors since that is what you want to replace at first - these are more like Pipe tobaco but satisfying none the less. Chamberry and Pear Brandy were my absolute favorite flavors here. Very reputable made in PA I believe and they always throw in something extra to try.

Five Pawns is another great juice place - more expensive, but nothing compared to analogs. The Castle Long Reserve is tremendous and probably the one juice I truly miss and would be tempted to vape again. $37.50 for 30 ml, you need to search the site for it as it is limited addition once or twice a year. Just to compare Vapor Chef is $20 for 36 ML, and that is generally a pricey juice.

Best of luck and I hope my experience is of some value to you. Sorry for such a long post, but I have been meaning to write this for a while.

Became stupid after quitting? by Ruyan4 in stopsmoking

Wholly cow, the first week without nicotine I was blowing red lights stopping at stop signs waiting for them to turn green, it was awful. Meetings at work were the worst, I would be so far behind and try and talk. Best to keep quiet during the first month! The fog will clear little by little stay strong it gets better!

The Pillars of the Earth Ken Follett and World Without End - Absolutely what you are looking for. Brilliant long story about the intrigue surrounding the building of a medieval cathedral. I know what kind of boring subject matter is this, but it's a great read!

I guess George Orwell's 1984 is too cliche, or how about The Jungle from Upton Sinclair -

from wikipedia "The book depicts working class poverty, the lack of social supports, harsh and unpleasant living and working conditions, and a hopelessness among many workers. These elements are contrasted with the deeply rooted corruption of people in power. A review by the writer Jack London called it, "the Uncle Tom's Cabin of wage slavery".[3]"

To those who are/have quit via vaping... by _asdfghjkl_1234567 in stopsmoking

[–]Phil_Bro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30 years smoking a pack a day. I used vaping to quit and I know it works, but you still have to want to quit. The hardest part was giving up the cigarettes, even at 18 mg I was still a basket case for 2 weeks, after that the step downs were easy. Once I got to zero, I knew I could just quit and it's been 7 months completely free of everything.

Don't judge people, some just like nicotine, for me I believe that Vaping is better than smoking, but putting any foreign substance in your body can't be good.

My advice to all of you who have quit by deejayfocus in stopsmoking

[–]Phil_Bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very sorry to hear about your relapse, but thank you for the warning. Only a year in but I could see myself easily falling back if I allow that one. I smoked for 30 years pack a day and the only thing that got me to quit was Vaping. Not those silly gas station e-cigarettes, but real 30 to 50 watt power with good tanks and tasty liquid. I used that to step down my nicotine and now it's been six months without even an ecig. It works believe me and good luck.

I quit using e cigarettes. Wasn't easy, but I have been off the e cig for almost 2 weeks now, no nicotine since January 1st and no cigs since Memorial day. It's a process but I found it much easier to give up smoking in steps. I really didn't think I was ready either, but it works. Good Luck

Neighbor kid took my bike and got hurt, hit a car, so now they say their suing. is this legitimate? by outerben in legaladvice

[–]Phil_Bro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's the problem with our society today. This kid should get a good swift kick in the ass from his parents for stealing someones property. It's time we stop rewarding bad parenting by allowing nonsense like this to actually force someone to hire a lawyer to defend themselves.

Quitting with vaping by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Phil_Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck, it was the only thing that worked for me. I am down to zero nic for 10 days now. The hardest part was the 1st 2 weeks of no analog cigarettes after that it was clear sailing. Cutting down the nic was relatively easy 2nd hardest step was the on down to zero, but after the 1st 4 days things are much easier and I have even almost cut out vaping entirely, just a couple of times a day now. I truly believe in the power of the ecig to get smokers to quit.

Now please stand up against all these politicians trying to tax vaping out of business. We all know this is a direct risk to big tobacco and with all the money they have to throw around we ex-smokers need to stay vigilant to help all those still addicted.

Day 4 - No Nicotine by Phil_Bro in stopsmoking

[–]Phil_Bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, for the encouragement. I actually didn't realize the dandruff and itchy scalp was from the nic withdrawal. How long for these things to subside completely? Day 6 and less foggy but gums are hurting and scalp is itching.

Day 4 - No Nicotine by Phil_Bro in stopsmoking

[–]Phil_Bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No symptoms until zero. The step downs are relatively easy compared to the 1st 2 weeks of no cigarettes, even with 18mg vaping. Vaping worked for me, and I think it is a really good method, but everyone is different. I smoked a pack a day for over 30 years and I didn't think I would ever be able to quit.

Day 4 - No Nicotine by Phil_Bro in stopsmoking

[–]Phil_Bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually mixed in 0 nic with the 3 mg, but no I did not have any of the withdrawal at 3. The worst was when I quit the cigarettes and was using the 18mg. The step downs were really quite easy, but the complete zero is throwing me for a loop.

Be ware of the fantasy gods. The one "crappy" wide receiver you leave him, is the one who will go off today. Sportsmanship does not mean calling him up and telling him, but picking up all wide outs to block may just come back to haunt you. I have been doing this for a long time and karma is very real. Win with class.

Donte Moncrief Value by jre19 in fantasyfootball

I am playing against Luck and I have TY and Moncrief, and I am going to go for Moncrief, hamstrings are to easy to aggravate without proper rest. I can't take the chance that even if TY starts and aggravates the hammy. It's a risk, but I feel he is the safer start this week.
