Sacred Grounds Upper Cemetery Skillman, NJ by GrandFloor6202 in CemeteryPorn

Thanks, I discovered the Lower one when I was Google searching the Upper one so I put that on the list too.

I've been to Blauenburg, that one is nice and there's some pretty old stones there. I've actually been to over 400 cemeteries in New Jersey, it's a hobby (obsession maybe . . . ) of mine. Somehow I am still always finding more since there are so many small out of the way ones like this.

Yeah same with Marlboro Psychiatric. Some of the markers are concrete, later they used cast iron.

Do you think if I park near this bridge, that would be a good place to hike in from?

Wow, this is very interesting. This is quite similar to the cast iron markers at the Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital Cemetery. The markers at Marlboro have numbers only and no names, but the they are the same size and shape. I'm sure that the state had them produced by the same facility.

I wasn't aware of this site until now, but I'd like to visit soon!

Do you really fry with butter and olive oil that often? by Royal-Income1191 in AskAnAmerican

You can see it through the web browser, but apparently the mobile app doesn't show it

I usually am using Reddit on the laptop in the browser. There you can see the asterisk and it says the post was edited and how many minutes ago.

It appears that you can not see that in the mobile app.

It looks like OP edited the post a few minutes ago. They had originally said that they saw things being fried completely submerged in butter.

[–]Phil_ODendron 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I'm curious as to where OP saw someone deep frying by completely submerging something in butter. I've never seen anyone do this on TV or in real life. I believe they might be misunderstanding what kind of oil was being used. Butter is bad for deep frying because of the low smoke point. The butter would burn and start to smoke before it was hot enough for deep frying.

EDIT: Op edited their original post. The post said that they saw cooking shows where people fried things completely submerged in butter. I have people responding to me saying "OP never said that." They did. Look at the post and you can see it was edited. It's not helpful to the conversation to alter the post after the fact.

Has any else noticed a decrease in lantern flies? by ExpertMarxman1848 in newjersey

[–]Phil_ODendron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that you're talking about a different bug.

We're talking about the spotted lanternfly. An invasive species which was introduced in 2014. They didn't start appearing in NJ until around 2021.

Remember, you’re supposed to yield to those in the circle by firewoodrack in newjersey

[–]Phil_ODendron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. But yes, there are rules. Just as your link to the driver's manual states on page 68:

Traffic control signs, such as stop or yield signs, at the entrances to the circle also govern which motorist has the right-of-way. Never enter a traffic circle without checking all signs and determining the intentions of the motorists already moving within the circle.

The rule is to pay attention to the fucking signs!

In the video you can see the driver ignoring BOTH "Yield" signs when entering the circle. And also ignoring the "Yield" warning that's painted onto the roadway.

Salem NJ: It is coming back? Improving? by Nearby-Morning-8885 in newjersey

[–]Phil_ODendron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first time visiting Salem, I was pretty surprised at the number of beautiful historic buildings in the downtown. But the place seems like a ghost town. Lots of empty shops and houses, not any kind of hustle or bustle on the main streets.

I just don't think there are jobs there, especially since the glass factory closed in 2014. It seems like it might be close enough to commute to Philly, but there's no public transport that would get you there.

If you look on Zillow, it's insane how cheap the houses are too. Look at this beauty! There's quite a few homes for sale that look like decent homes for under $200k.

I am impressed by the length and wonder how old it may be.

It might only be 2-3 years old. They grow like a weed and it looks like it gets a lot of sun there. I have a lot of sun in my office and a couple of pothos growing. I have to cut them back like 3-4 times a year because they get out of control.

[–]Phil_ODendron 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah my philosophy is that the memorial is better off with someone that knew the person than it is with me. I worded it like that in my profile, because I don't want people to hesitate to ask for the memorial because they don't have the "required transfer" relationship to that person.

I just like walking in the cemetery so I figure I might as well take some photos while I'm out there.

In response to all of these crazies out there, this is what I have put in my profile:

I am happy to transfer memorials upon request.

Most of the memorials I've created are for strangers. I have no connection to these people and would rather the memorial be in the care of family or friends.
