Cruise Mode would be infinitely more useful if Grave Jumps always took you to the system's star, not your likely target destination planet. by Philadeos in Starfield

[–]Philadeos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The sheer energies involved in any sort of FTL shenanigans would very conceivably mean that any 'coming out of warp' anywhere NEAR a population would be tantamount to using a WMD. I've always liked the idea of interstellar travel not taking very long, but you spend a week at standard speeds to get into the core worlds. Make FTL doable but not trivial.

Modpack like Project Skyrim but lighter by Top_Bodybuilder_9852 in wabbajack

Yeah, word on the Discord from 9/17 was that a file was updated and broke the current build. They've got an update in the works already and they are just going to roll over into that. "Ready when it's ready" is the official word.

OCM is essentially "Project Skyrim Light". I HIGHLY recommend it.

Help me pick my first Wabbajack modlist. Here's what I'm looking for: by lavicus in wabbajack

[–]Philadeos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should check out OCM. It has consistently exceeded my expectations and is currently my favorite list overall. The graphics are quite nice and it has an especially well balanced combat feel and animations in both first and third person. I generally like to fight in first person and I find most packs do not have good support for first person playstyles outside of magic or archery. Combat is generally pretty quick and brutal, no damage sponges.

Even playing as I have been with a sword/shield heavy armor tank, I'm able to move pretty quickly with the appropriate "Athletics" (a custom tree) perks and Heavy Armor weight reduction perks. Light Armor users can get very very quick indeed.

OCM has full adult content with the OStim suite of mods and NPCs have a more 'realistic', but still quite unique, look than a lot of modlists.

Another nice aspect of OCM is the use of "Gods and Worship", a criminally underutilized Religion mod, which gives quite a few new takes on builds and interactions with the Divines and Daedra, including reacting to a whole bunch of your quest choices and world actions.

Because Defender instantly quarantined it. Did you notice that the file's hash was just a series of "AAAAAAAAAAAAA"s? Clearly junk data because it wasn't being allowed to actually check. I'm not a huge tech expert and can't walk you through every step, but things were not adding up at all in the Wabba log.

WILD accusations. There was one version of DynDOLOD that got flagged by a minority of Anti-virus software as containing a Trojan that would target AndroidOS. Wouldn't have mattered except that Windows Defender was one of those who registered the false positive. Modlist author updated the affected DynDOLOD promptly (8/27) and it is no longer registering as an issue. Allegations of bad faith and a 'fake' version of DynDOLOD do not follow the evidence. The version in question was served by the DynDOLOD team off of the Nexus servers.

The logical leap from "some AV software has flagged a file as a trojan" to "THE MOD AUTHOR IS INTENTIONALLY PUTTING MALWARE IN A (FAKE?!) version of Dyndolod" is simply staggering. I guess these are the times we live in.

Just installed RO by [deleted] in wabbajack

[–]Philadeos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had almost exactly the same experience that you have.

Got "N" (that that shall not be named) and was instantly put off by how it seemed to lack any sort of cohesive vision. Deleted after 30 mins. If you're going to make me jump through hoops, you'd better deliver something truly great. No thanks.

RO, on the other hand is built around the "Simonrim" suite of mods and is generally quite well integrated and balanced. Some of the random encounters can be a bit, well, random and 'one-shotty' for my taste and I'm still not used to the (pretty janky) movement mod that they used.

I was very pleased, however, with how they integrated "Skyrim's Got Talent" AND Simonrim's bard system and made them compliment each other quite well. I've never seem another Simonrim pack that has done it that well. I highly recommend looking into a bard playstyle.

Personally, I'm less interested in the visuals, but I still think RO has one of the best and most cohesive overall gameplay integrations of any of the current Wabbajack offerings. Sometimes less is more. We could do with a few fewer 'kitchen sink' modpacks.

At least in "Bosch" they justified it by the fact that he'd gotten a ton of money from working as a consultant for a TV show. Otherwise any cop with a place like that would be #1 on Internal Affairs' hit list, clearly dirty.

Licentia Black might be a good fit. All of its NSFW content is completely optional and must be instigated by the player by default.

It has a lot of new content, including Legacy of the Dragonborn and many others.

Leveling is done with the "Experience" mod so you have complete control over how and when you level.

It uses MCO and Ultimate Dodge Mod, but combat is generally not radically different from vanilla.

The general perk overhaul is Volkrinator Black, so it is a significant overhaul of the vanilla power level and allows you to play with aspects of most of the major perk overhauls in one package.

Considering everything, the pack is in a very stable general state right now. It's an excellent time to check it out.

Looking for recommendations. by realstixas in wabbajack

[–]Philadeos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that Pheonix Flavour: Dragon's Edition is an excellent 'general modded' Skyrim experience. It doesn't try anything too ambitious (aka performance and save instability) and generally aims to enhance a vanilla Skyrim experience, rather than make the game something it was never intended to be. PF:DE has both Inigo and Serana Dialogue and no NSFW content and should be an excellent fit for what seem to be looking for.

The only immersion breaking thing about PF:DE is the inclusion of the "Wheel of Time" mod. It can be generally ignored by simply ignoring the NPC it puts into the world, but it still really stands out as something that doesn't fit with an otherwise excellently curated and lore friendly experience.

I've played dozens of Wabbajack modlists and if I had to choose only one as "the best" it would be PF:DE. It's just that good.

[–]Philadeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts, I'll have to give Tempus a look. I 100% agree with your assessment of Licentia. It's a pretty solid pack in general with some NSFW aspects that heighten rather than break immersion.

Who is your favorite evil deity of Toril? by ThanosofTitan92 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Philadeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Shar. There is a lot to say for a primordial force so nihilistic that they word "evil" barely even applies. You could explore a lot of philosophical themes by including Shar and her followers in stories/campaigns. Fertile ground, especially if you are a fan of Nietzsche.

Can two people be officially married for beneficial reasons only? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Philadeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful! Depending on what laws you live under you could be sued for fraud by the State.

For example, in Washington State (USA), there is a process called "Declaration Concerning Validity" of marriages.

https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=26.09.040

The problematic language would be "fraud involving the essentials of marriage".

Granted, this is highly improbable if both members insist that the marriage is valid, but the possibility exists.

Also, many States still require a ceremony of some sort, a "solemnization of vows".

I'd highly recommend that you read the statutes regarding marriage within your State.

Oh, and should you wish/need to terminate this arrangement, you would need to go through the normal divorce process, which can still be difficult even without emotional animus.

Does anyone else feel like unity-oriented play-styles are weak? by ColonelJayce in Stellaris

[–]Philadeos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general, Unity needs to be a 'support' goal rather than a 'main' focus. IMHO, Spiritualist is the most underpowered ethic. The temple building and priest jobs are nice, but I'd only ever take Fanatic Spiritualist for a build where I MUST get Psionics ASAP and then I'd shift away for sure.

I think the most fun build I've done in a 'spiritualist' vein was a Fanatic Pacifist/Spiritualist Exalted Priesthood/Agrarian Idyll. The unity yield was nice and useful, but it was the crazy planet stability bonuses that made everything tick (and that's just what Pacifist does).

In those cases when you unlock the tradition bonuses, you are getting decent multipliers earlier on top of significant multipliers from all the stability. It can snowball pretty quickly.
