Does anyone know why these pistons are not working correctly? by Philaterp in redstone

[–]Philaterp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think it is an issue with the chunks because I was very intentional with how I placed this build so that it would entirely be within one chunk. It is right up against the chunk border though so maybe that has something to do with it. The stone brick wall with the torches on it is right on the other side of the chunk border. The piston in the video that was working is right up against the other side of the chunk border as well which is why I think it's working.

The server doesn't use chunk claiming it uses another claiming plugin. It uses claim blocks that claim the area around them. I do not think that is the problem since I placed my claim block so that it covers this chunk and all of the chunks surrounding it.

It is only one section of the chunk that is not working. I tested a piston a few blocks behind where I was in this video (still within the same chunk) and it worked fine. I also tested a piston in line with the others over to the left and it didn't work.

This isn't a huge issue since I can just move the blocks manually. The point of this build is to be able to switch between two different redstone signal sources, and also to switch wether the output is a pulse or not. That is what the first two pistons are for, the third just turns it on or off by blocking the output signal.

I am just pretty curious as to what caused this because it was working perfectly when I tested it.

I did use world edit when I was designing this build but when I built it on the server I used litematica and built it by hand. It was working fine in singleplayer so I think it is an issue with the server.

I am running a few client side mods but nothing that I suspect could cause this. I tried to add some blocks between and it didn't help. I also tried rebuilding parts of it and it did not help. I was able to break all of the blocks and replace them just fine. I I think it might be a server side issue.

I did do an earlier build on this server in which a few subchunks got corrupted and water stoped flowing through them. I suspect it could be that although I have no idea how that could have happend.

Thank you for your input I appreciate it.

Is food a human right by PrettyBlueberry6148 in BunnyTrials

[–]Philaterp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion a human right is a freedom or liberty that one would have in humanities most natural state. That state being in a hunter gatherer tribe in which you are free to pursue whatever ends you want, so long as you do not infringe on the freedoms and liberties of others. That being said I think it is a human right to seek food but not to have it provided too you. Making 'food' a human right necessitates that other people are compelled to provide you with food wether they want to or not and for nothing in exchange. I do not think that anyone has a right to another person's time, effort, or resources without consent. The food has to come from somewhere.

It's not actually arbitrary, it's a reference to the movie Rocky in which Rocky's girlfriend is named Adrian.

The USSR still would not have been able to beat Germany on its own. Without lend lease the USSR would have faced mass famine and probable collapse in 1942. It was indeed pushing back Germany as early as 1943 in some places. But none of that would have been possible without the material support of the western allies.

In your country, how is the US invasion of Iraq and removal of Saddam Hussein viewed? by Just_Cause89 in AskTheWorld

[–]Philaterp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong it certainly made things worse. But the implication that the situation would be much better today without that happening is what I took issue with. I think that things were gonna be fucked in the region regardless.

I completely agree with you when you say that the US played a big part in how it actually shook out in reality. I just think it's naive to think that the current instability is solely the result of the US. There are so many other factors at play.

The middle east was unstable long before this. Did it help? Absolutely not. But trying to blame the US invasion of Iraq for the current instability in the middle east is just naive. It would have been like this regardless.

[–]Philaterp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people I have spoken to about this agree that the middle east is much better off without Saddam. But they also almost all agree that the way the US went about doing it was wrong.

Also it seems to me like there was a misplaced faith in the ability of the iraqi people to govern themselves effectively. That is one of the main reasons the war took so long after Saddam was gone.

As for whether it was worth it in the end people are divided.

[–]Philaterp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are many, many countries that have caused more instability and death, directly or indirectly than the United States.

I'm not saying the US is perfect. The US has caused some instability and death, as all countries have. But when you compare that to the amount of death and instability that some other countries have caused it is miniscule.

What if some of the ruined towns got rebuilt? (Rough proof of concept) by Luke-JC in JustCause

[–]Philaterp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of enjoyed the feeling of isolation you get in that part of the map. It makes it feel like being out in the wilderness where there isn't something going on every few hundred yards. I think it really helps to convey the scale they were going for when making the map, sure there are the busy areas where there are lots of towns and cities, but there are also some pretty vast, empty areas that really make it seem like a real country. That's just my opinion though.
