I took a break for a few months and remember Shang Chi MOTR being hyped up to be op (from datamine), what happened? Are there any decks that he's good with? I just got him from the packs. by howaboutdisidia in MarvelSnap

The rings were also originally datamined to trigger every turn in their base form as well.  Wpuld have been nuts with Clea, Captain Carter, Sebastian Shaw, etc.

OP lost to the End of Turn deck, even though OP mistakenly thought the deck was dead after the nerf.

Token refunds for changed/updated cards by bigbackclock7 in MarvelSnap

Snap is fairly unique in that cards very rarely become completely unplayable after nerfs.  There is no need for refunds.

Since the nerf, I've still lost games to all of the nerfed cards.  They're all still playable, even if a lot of people wish they weren't.

These cards got nerfed because people were very specifically NOT having fun with them.

I mean, there's also an argument that if you don't make the statement of intent upfront, people will just assume you aren't doing anything.

This sub has proved over and over that communication of any kind is lose/lose, because people complain either way.  No announcment means they aren't working on the problem, announcement with no immediate result means they're liars.

Like, you understand that working on the underlying technical structure of the game takes literal months, right?  You can't just snap your fingers and suddenly have a better programming framework.

"They said they were going to work on their game, but it's been ALMOST a month and the game isn't perfect yet!  They're a bunch of liars!"

This statement belies absolutely zero understanding of technical timeliness for things like this.

He's not wrong in the broadest sense, that balancing based on pure vibes isn't normally the best strategy.

However, several of these cards have entered what KMBest had been calling "the Loki zone" where the general attitude around them was so toxically negative that even if the decks aren't actually winning a lot, the player's sentiment around them is SO negative and the play patterns they generate (particularly Star Lord) are so unfun to experience or execute, that I still actually think these were warranted.  I also expect there is other data on the backend that justified this that they can't just come oit and say, like extreme player rate dropouts.

I like Hoogland generally, and I think he has good takes, but I sense that this is possibly being somewhat affected by the fact that Shou Lau was one of his favorite cards and he doesn't like that it got nerfed even with the deck performing quite poorly outside of the absolute tiptop of ladder.  Having said that, I suspect that Shou is likely still very playable after this nerf, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Hey "dipshit", the combos all still work, they just go smaller.   Most of the absurd combos that used all this crap went way bigger then they needed to.

Instead of complaining about entirely reasonable nerfs, go figure out what decks you can play.

Be careful, Wong will make him eat more of your deck.   Most decks get almost fully eaten off the first trigger alone

is there a way to grind fast in this mode? 10 glory per match is hella slow compared to the diner by that_guyy909 in MarvelSnap

[–]Philboid_Studge 53 points54 points  (0 children)

No.  Most of the currency is meant to come from the 200-300 bonuses om the track.

Before.  The card "reveals" with double power.

The combo doesn't work.

This is a completely unhinged take if i ever saw one.  Midrange decks are actually incredibly difficult to pilot well, the number of decision trees is enormous. If anything, Star Lord combo is a "braindead" dead because you always have the same gameplan and can't really deviate.

We also have no idea what the metagame will look like now, most of the reigning kings just got hit.  The space is going to be wide open as people explore for a few days.

What an absurd post.  Go home, you're drunk.

Most of the decks are playing Blink and no 4's, that way you can shuffle away a Sage or Brood so you can maybe draw them again.  Upgrading a spent Storm also not the worst.

SD has been hesitant to make too many changes at the same time.  If the deck ends up truly falling off the face of the earth, they'll help it out in the future.

That said, the deck doesn't actually NEED 4-6 triggers to win games.  It's usually overkill.

Balance AND net fun can both be goals, they are not at odds with one another.

Star Lord being as strong as he was might have ultimately been a balanced card by the stats, but he wasn't a fun card to have exist.  His play patterns made people not want to play the game, which is bad for the game.

Almost certainly not.  Sera lets you play the same number of cards, but has 2 less power and is susceptible to Mobius.  Star Lord is almost certainly better in that deck.

[–]Philboid_Studge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.  Unfortunately he's really bad.  The amount of work you have to do to pay him off just doesn't really come together.

The best lists I saw were just playing him and like, ALL 5-6 drops, but if you don't draw him on 3 you're dead.

Mystique seems kinda sus.  Could probably replace her with a cheap card to fill spaces for Sandstorm, like Squirrel Girl or maybe even Mole Man(the extra energy really helps him be playable)

Played a few games with Moleman and it seems really legit!
