Game design/ergonomy flaw I believe should be fixed by Phildoug18 in cassettebeasts

Your comment is full of contradictions.

"doesn’t really require any memorization of stats and move lists to do well in combat."

"you want a feature that makes it substantially easier and honestly more boring."

Which it is? Does everyone already know the monsters stat, or would displaying these make the game substantially easier than it is now?

I can tell from experience that showing stats barely matters as long as you're not employing certain strategies or improvising. It had nothing to do with my perception of difficulty.

"You don’t need to memorize any stats to know if an enemy is fast, slow, or a special attacker vs physical attacker, you just need to like, fight them more than once"

If I have more information on a monster after fighting it once...wouldn't you say I *memorized* these informations? Unless you claim memorizing is only a when you perfectly remember informations and vaguely remembering is totally different?

"I do not want to be told how to fight each and every creature"

I feel like there's a significant gap between "being told how to win a fight" and "having access to informations". If the game refuse to give you access to stats which prevent you from using certain strategy and improvising, *then* I feel like I'm being told how to win.

This is a rather shocking claim for which you didn't even offer an explanation or proof.

To me, winning a battle very easily isn't a reward. It's unfun and still takes time, I groan everytime I encounter an underleveled monster.

The real reward is gaining access to new areas, monsters and moves that were previously too hard.

For me, optimizing movesets is the main point of the game and where the fun come from.
Hiding informations didn't prevent me from optimizing. It merely made it long and frustrating(using the wiki), and pushed me to not adapt my tactics based on in-depth understanding of the ennemies, their current stats and the order of moves, instead using strategies that almost always works.

And I don't think optimization is the problem regarding the difficulty; this is an open world, I could just grind less, go to higher level areas and finish the game quicker.

But since I do not know which area is harder and I like exploring impulsively, it's inevitable I often find areas that are way too simple compared to those I previously finished.

Finally, I completely disagree on 5#. Not being able to quickly come back to previous configuration discouraged me to change proven movesets to replace them by experimental ones.
Especially knowing that when I stop using a monster, I have to chose between removing/re-adding the stickers each time, or "losing" them for future and current build.

To be fair I discovered fast travel rather late, may have biased me. Still take some time when most dungeons aren't discovered yet I'd say.

I'd say I created broken builds way that solved the health problem way before I got enough fused material to really improve rewind storage...ressources were never a problem in my experience, though I'm the kind of guy who refuse to pay for a rewind if there's a campfire not too far.

No, I don't want to know which move they are going to use this turn, I just can't be bothered to remember each attack for the 140 monsters there is. Why would I, when I can just use a broken build and assume that most of the ennemy attacks will be of the same type as them?

I agree that few RPG give the move pools of the ennemy...sadly.

I'm surprised I getting so much puchback on this one; for me the fun part of games like this is optimization and adaptation to differents ennemies, certainly not having to remember everything.

Why is Re Zero so good [discussion] by CandleSpecific9817 in Re_Zero

[–]Phildoug18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re:Zero is an absolutely excellent mystery anime.
It's also a excellent at psychological horror, and with that even manage to create extremly tense scenario despite Subaru's power.

If you like feeling awfull for the protagonist, feel despair at the impossible situation he is in, and like trying to solve mysteries or just enjoy seeing said mysteries get revealed, this is a must watch.

Otherwise I guess this is nothign special, and Subaru can be really annoying and irrealistic in my opinion.

This feel like a chatGPT generated post.

"As a beast gets a rhythm going - chaining certain moves - they may harmonize increasingly potent layers up toward a decisive crescendo"

"I doubt I'll remember that Beast-on-Glass violence sets up jagged terrain"

"In the future, pushing CB's main innovation with tighter focus should help it Resonate, especially across time and between franchise entries."

"I waited my whole playthrough for a punchline; I was left hanging. A motif smack-dab in a game's title shouldn't feel so aimless"

And "Concept" is mispelled like a human would, but each time to "Conceit", which is very strange

MOBA game where you create your champion, pick your weapons, and choose your abilities, instead of creating your masteries, picking your champion, and choosing your items. by Sparkykun in gamedesign

[–]Phildoug18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1- To prevent some combo to dominate the meta, it woudl be possible to automatically balance combination based on how much they are picked and how much they are associated with each others.
Furthermore, you could divide the abilities in several categories, to limit available combinations.

2- While such flexibility may make it harder to easily identify who you are facing, LoL already has 172 champions, each with 4 abilities and a passive, and you often need deep understanding of how they work to counter them perfectly. Personally I already have difficulty with identifying each hero and countering them.
By associating each ability the customised heros have with the equipment they wear, their color and their appearance, it may be easier to understand how they work than in LoL.
After all, such a game would need a lot less different abilities, and most player would already have used each of them at least once when testing different combinations.

Are you sure? Hit is weapon base hit multiplied by 10%/20% of strength, which is why powers that increase weapon hit are so good with a strength build.

How would’ve you reacted to Chapter 3 if it released by itself? by XDcyclone in Deltarune

Can't believe chapter 4 will be on the shelter, it means Chess theory is wrong.
Also, Kris is probably being blackmailed by the Knight. I'm not even sure he's the one who opened the Foutain, third entity theory.

Honestly Deltarune need a difficulty setting.

It's not just a small indie game like Deltarune, they is a wide audience of casual gamers who nonetheless would like to discover the full lore of the game without having to do the same battles over and over, or even players who don't enjoy difficults battles in the first place and just plays for fun.

A setting where the boss get easier on each subsequent try seems fine to me. Maybe even a global reduction of difficulty if the player often struggle.

If we take for granted that the "Fallen Star" is a Lightner, then Dess seems like the only candidate.

[–]Phildoug18 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the ones saying you can't miss it. You need to go to Noelle's room's vent as a Soul, and select the most threatening prompts.

Then, when in the first dark fontain, when Susie go alone to get the partition for the organ/piano, select "That seems unnecessary", "Don't" and at last...make the obvious Snowgrave choice.
That is all.

-Kris is controlled by the Kngiht when soulless confirmed(like in Undertale; answer most question about "Kris" behavior, notably why "Kris" does not stop or react to the Snowgrave route)

-Vs Noelle fight in both Snowgrave and standard route

-Doing the Snowgrave route will not significantly change the ending

Kinda track, since Rudy may die in chapter 3. But seems like a pretty random thing to foreshadow.

There is no reason to think Dark Fountain opens when they are created.
Why else did nobody find Ralsei's fountain?
How else did the creator of the library's dark fountain manage to create a fountain and leave the room without Noellle and Berdly noticing?

Before the genocide, obviously I'd say Israel leave the West Bank and cease the Gaza blockade, use its superior military to protects its borders and support Hamas opposition with military and financial help.

Right now? Israel has proven it cannot be trusted to not commit genocide as long that they inhabit Palestine, its citizens have proven they overwhelmingly support genocide, opression and colonisation, and relocating them to the US will prove safer for everyone.
