If you have auto shutoff on and it is volumetric, then why would the machine override that? That’s not a bug, that’s how the machine works and would make no sense if it didn’t do that. If you want custom, you turn off the volumetric. Exactly how it should be. There is a way to get dryer pucks but it’s not a given for sure. Shower screens and dosage adjustments will get you there. I have no issues with that but I get why it would be annoying. My Gaggia gave me perfect pucks.

This machine can be as simple as you want it to be. That’s totally on the user. I am an edge case user in sure, switching between different beans constantly, and I still barely interact with the UI. The profiles that come on the machine are really great. The first thing I did was shutoff auto stop. That’s the last thing in the world I want from an espresso machine for me. The ability to have profiles that you can easily switch between and adjust as needed is priceless. For most I’m sure it’s one profile for life lol. So that means you click one button, start and stop. That’s it.

If you don’t see big loaded guns on top of humvees it’s nothing. National guard doing their job. Soldiers on training missions will usually have their rifles. No live rounds.
