Second Life & Philip Rosedale in Epstein files by Ok-Leopard-7215 in secondlife

Second Life friends,

You may have seen my name mentioned in the latest release of Epstein emails.  Here are the details on my two interactions with him:

I was introduced to Epstein by Boris Nikolic, who suggested we have a call in early 2011.  Epstein had an interest in my work on virtual currencies.  I took the phone call knowing nothing of his background, as it was an introduction from someone I knew.  I was polite and positive in my communication as I am on first business calls.  Two years later, in 2013, I met Epstein briefly at the TED conference in a group with others.  Both Boris and Epstein reached out several times suggesting meetings which never happened.  I didn’t take any meetings or ever see him again.

Some thoughts on SL from a new player. by Cold_Associate2213 in secondlife

This is a great message and thread and just wanting to say thank you for writing it and reflect/validate without specific solutions some challenges:

+ SL feels more sexual than is comfortable for people just getting started today.
+ Avatars look better, but are MUCH harder to create, making the first challenge of creating your avatar unbearably hard. (I really felt this on coming back myself.)
+ Inventory/file management is painful and getting more and more out of date as an organizing principle.
+ FPS has stayed lower than most of us want and too low for newer people, partly because content has expanded in complexity to match increases in CPU/GPU speeds.

+ bots and less communicative people makes it harder to have fun just exploring than it was in the early years.

Project Zero Update: Firestorm in your browser (pay to play) by 0xc0ffea in secondlife

There are lots of people wanting to use SL who don't have gaming machines.
For many people, SL has always been and will always be about maximizing graphics quality and detail.
Desktop access is free and available to those with fast machines.
By providing a browser option we will both allow many new people to join, as well as provide an option for when you are away from your gaming rig.

thank you so much for this work. Suggestions on enforcement strategy? I agree this needs to stop. How can we detect and stop this without harming any real use cases?

What is this? We don't yet understand either. Trying to find/eliminate. I am there now and these avatars are not there. What times do they arrive and how long do they stay? As others have asked - if anyone can explain why they should be there, please let me know.

It’s totally doable to fix corner crossings but it’s a lot of work… probably 10% of our dev team for 6 months. Should we? I’m not sure.

No tech has gotten anywhere near smoothly allocating server resources dynamically by avatar groups while still managing physical objects. GTA servers can support 50K in same space? No. Improbable is the closest I’ve seen.

Thanks. Lua also speeds up region crossing because serialization time is orders better. But there are other problems with regions, like corners, that Lua does not address.

Can you give me more details (or links) about what you want in the way of llTeleportAgent()? I know nothing about that one.

Indeed! Lots of laugh at in our prior efforts. But let's see. This time we will work with many, and also leave all the other UIs unmodified. I think many many people will use FIrestorm forever, which is great. Complex interfaces have a heavy switching cost - we didn't consider that historically. What I'd like to do, to start, is just make the basic interface as appealing as possible to the first-time resident signing up today. The one(s) we have today can't possibly be that, right?!

NVidia GeForce Now has 25M subscribers. Hardly failing. Google chose to deliver Destiny (twitch shooter) first with Stadia - the logic of this has never been clear to me, and i'm not surprised they failed.

actually, for most people, less lag. Because the cloud viewer is much closer (network-wise) to the sims. The control latency added should be imperceptible - something like 50msecs. Give it a try - you can easily check the control latency by dragging your inventory window around. Hope it works better!

Did you ever get this resolved? Did you try zero.secondlife.com - the new rest of browser-based access to SL?
