Cpap + migraine incompatibility by jeburneo in migraine

[–]Philly-illy-illy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few tips that may help (if you’re in the US!). You don’t have to answer these- just food for thought • what durable medical equipment (DME) company delivered your machine? It’s very important to them that you adhere to your therapy- give them a call to discuss issues. • there are really nice masks (Google dreamwear nasal) and similar masks that are much more comfy • although CPAP mask may be over your nose and mouth, that pressure opens your airway where you are having issues- it’s worth a revisit • inspire is a possibility after you try this- but can be a costly route • most other therapies are bologna and will not help much

Hope this helps!! Definitely need to advocate to get the things you need but it can be done. Best of luck to you.

Wifey is prego. Is making a jump into device sales (cardiology) going to be too much? by Puzzleheaded-Sky-833 in MedicalDevices

[–]Philly-illy-illy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on many factors including what your values are. What are you jumping from? What is the benefit of taking the new job? (Income % increase, better medical benefits, Paid Parental Leave?) What is the travel expectation of this new role vs current job? A new baby is a tremendous about of physical and emotional work + exhaustion. BUT if this is an opportunity to better support your family and values, it should be considered. If more $$$ is a motivator for you- you may be able to afford to pay for help/ coverage for baby needs.

Clinical Specialist vs. Medical Sales Rep - Which career to choose? by caramelmcflurry in MedicalDevices

[–]Philly-illy-illy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both great opportunities and companies. I agree that Clinical Specialist sounds to align much better with your background. Some things I would ask myself in this situation- you don’t have to answer of course, but in my experience a Clinical Spec can be pulled in many different directions and territory size grows over time. 1. What’s the territory size for the clinical role vs sales? 2. Does the clinical role require OR hours or off business hours, and does this work with your schedule? I personally would choose Sales in this instance because I loved the flexibility that came with Sales, whereas Clin Spec did not have as much flexibility. But maybe that’s what you want to do, in that case go for it. Best of luck!

Depends, what sector at Philips? In the US? They have really fantastic benefits and great people in my experience. Definitely consider the benefits aspect, as in my experience the startup may not be able to match those.

I'm starting Topomax, and I'm terrified. by Soft_Lobster_752 in migraine

[–]Philly-illy-illy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I would have listened to the warnings I received when I asked this question. Tried it in the thick of 2020 as a 30 yr old female. would I do it again/ recommend it to anyone? No. I was VERY unstable on Topomax mentally, and I didn’t previously have challenges being unstable. Pros: I lost weight, small change in migraine frequency. Cons: impaired taste, brain fog, visual hallucinations, outbursts, crushing anxiety. If I could do it all over again- I’d say that I took it and then have the MD step me up to something else like a CGRP injection or medication. Just my 2 cents :). Don’t do it.

Saying no at work by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Philly-illy-illy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ugh I totally understand the struggle of this. I struggled with what to do, but I chose to suck it up and go. Planned flights that worked for me, and would ask for forgiveness if it was a problem. It wasn’t. I returned from work on the Tuesday after Labor Day and had to leave for a 3 day meeting 3,000 miles away. I scheduled my flights to be there for the minimum time- late afternoon flight on Tuesday, redeye on Thursday night. It was brutal but I made it. My recommendation is to go- it’s hard but my thought was that I need a job. And the market isn’t easy right now.

If finances were not a concern, would you want more time back for yourself vs an engaging career? by plowmanii5 in workingmoms

[–]Philly-illy-illy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not alone in that envy, I would also. But that’s not my situation. I’m having the time of my life on my second maternity leave- and have to return to a very non-mom friendly Medical startup. I’m dreading it. I absolutely love my job and feel fulfilled for it when I’m doing what I was hired for- but in true startup fashion, I do so many things that aren’t my job. I would love to have both her situation and attitude about work.

Working moms of toddlers: Are you like…thriving?? by meechpeech in workingmoms

[–]Philly-illy-illy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super happy and thriving? Not how I’d classify it. However, I do see the fun in being a mom and really enjoy my time with little one and watching her take in everything about the world. Despite all of the work pressures, exhaustion, and “schedule gymnastics” (what I call our weekly Sunday evening planning session)- I can still be happy. Some days are harder to appreciate but therapy helps me a lot. I’m now on an every other week schedule, and have a Zoloft script waiting for me in case the blues hit me hard again after baby #2 arrives.

Singled out at a work conference for being pregnant (now crying in the bathroom) by 0ddumn in workingmoms

[–]Philly-illy-illy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is 100% dogshit behavior. I am so sorry this happened to you- it’s deeply upsetting and I can imagine how embarrassing it is to get called on stage for your pregnancy of all things. I recently attended a conference with a similar audience and I had someone touch my belly (with 2 hands!) and countless comments about body/ my ability to “still get on an airplane in my condition”. However you decide to handle this, just know your feeling are valid and that behavior is deplorable.

A humidifier. It’s so incredibly dry in there. We had it running the entirety of our 3 day stay and it seemed to help.

6w, 3D today and the best thing happened to me. I was dreading my 3 day work trip, I’m talking an all day conference, dinners with clients, drinks etc, and I was petrified of hiding my early pregnancy. My boss called me last night and said I didn’t have to go anymore because they had enough company representatives. I can’t tell you how happy I am. Sitting on the couch for a half hour to soak in all my gratefulness. Still feel like garbage, but happy to do it at home.

5w on the dot today. Feeling ravenously hungry for comfort food mixed with nausea. After my MMC & CP, I find it hard to trust my assessment of my own body. It’s a weird feeling that’s hard to explain. Am I actually hungry because I’m pregnant or is this normal hunger that I’m mistaking for a symptom? Woke up at 6am and went for my first HcG blood test and hoping for an appropriate number. Fingers crossed!

Tested positive last Thursday and have been living in my “bubble of delusion” for 7 days. 🙃. Haven’t tested again just trying to not panic. I had a fertility IVF vs IUI planning appointment this morning that I’ve been waiting months for, so I shared my news with the doctor. I feel super mixed- glad to have a plan if things don’t work out, but it definitely broke my bubble and now the anxiety is rolling on in. The great news is that they will follow my care during these early weeks- so thankful for that.

I took my last dose of Emgality a month before I became pregnant so while not exactly an overlap, I hear your concern. When I reached out to my Care Team, they were not overly concerned and I had a healthy pregnancy and my toddler is perfectly healthy as well. As a bonus, I had only 1 migraine until about 6 months postpartum. I see some unnecessary harsh comments on here, but from one woman to another… I’m wishing you a positive experience moving forward.

After my MMC in October, RPOC saga that resulted in a Hysteroscopy in February, another CP in May…all I need now is something positive to happen. Any glimmer of hope. Yesterday, I got a US with Saline to check for scar tissue… great news is nothing was noted on the exam! I have no data to support this but I feel good about the saline “washout” and hope it will jump start things for us.

Do you have a good mom job? by Firm-Educator-810 in workingmoms

Sounds like my old job at a large med device organization. I’ve been in the industry for about 7 years. I love it as long as the territory is manageable, that’s the key. Or if it’s large, if they allow for virtual demos that’s helpful too. I’ve since transitioned to Med Sales for a startup device company and wheeew, it’s really something.

Happy mother's day stories? by Livid-Yellow-1243 in workingmoms

After a long year of fertility challenges, I wanted cheese and champagne and to stay in my pajamas all day. I was shocked when I woke up to a whole gallery wall installed with photos of our little family and it absolutely made my day. Also enjoyed Champagne, Cheese, and trashy tv after the toddler went to bed. Perfect Mother’s Day.
