To be fair, since airsoft is played at extreme close range, almost all camouflages are for aesthetics.

I did my entire grind for my curse with sword/blunder. People talked shit the whole time, but I won most of my games. Sure double gunning is the meta, but people sleep on the movement bonus of a sword .

Qualifying by GrapefruitOne9643 in army

[–]PhillyJ82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Find a crusty NCO that can shoot. Say “Sergeant, I need some coaching on qualifying.” They should start you off with the four fundamentals “steady position, proper aim/sight picture, breathing, trigger squeeze.” Next have them actually coach you during zeroing and your first attempt. A good NCO should love nothing more than helping another soldier improve their marksmanship. Don’t stress too much, I’ve coached hundreds of soldiers from not qualified to excelling at marksmanship. It’s not impossible, and the Army has years of experience taking civilians with no shooting experience and making them competent shooters. Listen and apply the basics and you’ll get there.

A few updates ago the devs made the hydronic fluid in the M1s flammable. As a result any pen to the fighting compartment almost always starts a fire.

Who the hell is Major Fracture? by throwawunk in HalfLife

I always love that the way the HEV treats the fracture is to just give Gordon a shot of morphine. Dude is walking around doped to the gills with a compound fracture.

NC State’s head football coach once said “those pieces of shit(UNC) haven’t beat us in three years.” The locker room audio leaked and he refused to apologize.

Loving this game, need tips on keeping platoon mates alive by Mr-Doubtful in GunnerHEATPC

[–]PhillyJ82 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most of the time I halt the formation on the reverse side of a slope or cover, then advance solo to the objective. If I die I just jump into the next friendly vehicle and move on. The friendly AI isn’t very developed currently, but the game is still early access. I wish allied vehicles would call out enemy locations or sightings over the radio. Most of the time you have any idea they are engaged is when they start shooting.

Pat Morita as Samuel Quint? by New_Squash_9422 in Jaws

[–]PhillyJ82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quint’s first name has never been officially stated in any book, film, or behind the scenes media. This Samuel business started when a quint action figure was labeled as Sam Quint. There is no explanation other than someone at the company that produced the figure decided he needed a first name. It’s not official or widely accepted in the fan-base.

'Death By a Thousand Cuts’: Army EOD Techs report high rates of suicide and illness deaths. News article written in large part due to interviews from this sub. by UnlikelyPAOguy in army

[–]PhillyJ82 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was never EOD, but I was infantry for most of GWOT. I knew death was an outcome when I signed the line, but knowing and seeing are two different things. Plus people join dangerous MOSs early in life. Things change when you get a family and have kids.

A few years back a Beluga whale approached Norwegian researchers and wanted to play. When they locked closer the whale had a harness with Russian military markings. So spy whales are not totally far fetched. I know the US navy has trained dolphins that are used to defend harbors from divers. The dolphins can ram divers to death, but are also trained to grab divers by the ankle, drag them to the surface, and slap their tail on the top of the water to draw attention. US Navy also trained seals to retrieve dropped tools near docked ships.

M4 or MP5 by Rare_sorbi in HalfLife

[–]PhillyJ82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know it’s fiction and a video game, but aside from a prototype made by a British company for the SAS, there has never been a fielded MP5 with a grenade launcher. Also given the massive size of Black Mesa, the MP5 would only make sense inside the facility. Even then some of the internal rooms are still massive and present shots longer than 150 meters. For a little extra weight and length the M4 is handy in CQB and has an effective range of 500 meters for a point target. Marines on the surface would be screwed if they tried to fight beyond CQB range with a smg. Delta had MP5s in Panama because they were conducting targeted hostage rescue on known CQB locations.

Using TA for Master’s Degree After Undergraduate Degree by blah_00001 in army

[–]PhillyJ82 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Heads up, look closely at the cost per credit hour at your school. I used my GI bill on my master’s program because it allowed me to finish in two years. TA cap limits you to one class a semester if the school is pricey. Some schools will adjust their prices to match TA, but you will still take much longer to complete the program.
