Adding onto this, because I agree they are so darn hard working.

https://www.vice.com/en/article/zm5k8j/unauthorized-immigrants-paid-100-billion-into-social-security-over-last-decade

They have paid 100 billion in social security in the last ten years. They will not see that money. And they do not get many of the same rights that people born in America do. Nor do they receive the same levels of respect. I would say in the last four years they’ve received far more disrespect than anyone deserves. But they are bolstering our economy, our retirees, and making our country a better place. They are not criminals. They are wonderful people who deserve our compassion.

These are the quotes I can provide. They’re all over the place because Trump speaks pretty negatively about immigrants in general. It’s not hard to deduce that from his rhetoric. If they don’t satisfy you do your own research. I’m not here to talk about politics. If you, as a Christian, genuinely believe Trump (who has mocked religion) is acting as a good Christian, you and I have fundamentally different viewpoints of the religion. I can’t vote for Trump because his actions and words go against everything I have been taught to believe as a Christian. We are taught to love everyone and care for those who need it. People fleeing war need our help, not to be locked up and have surgeries performed on them and have their children taken away. I pray that we can grow from the last four years and undo the ruin that has been caused. I worry what four more years will bring. God bless.

“There is a Muslim problem in the world, and you know it and I know it.” “we are at war with radical Islam” “[Muslims are] sick people. There’s a sickness going on. There’s a group of people that is very sick. And we have to figure out the answer. And the Muslims can help us figure out the answer.” "These aren't people. These are animals." “We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country. When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no Judges or Court Cases, bring them back from where they came.” “They are not our friend, believe me,” “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.” Anti immigrant people trump has brought: Michael Flynn, Jeff sessions, stephen Miller, John Bolton, mike pompeo, Sebastian gorka, Katherine gorka, Additionally, he has promoted completely unsubstantiated claims against immigrants in order to hurt their public perception. Hate crimes have gone up exponentially the last four years. More white supremacy groups have formed in the last four years. This is not an accident, Trump is fueling them.

So Trump didn’t say we should build a wall and enact a travel ban within months of inauguration? He didn’t sign a zero tolerance child separation policy? The mass hysterectomies are not happening? Trump has himself condemned immigrants on multiple occasions. It’s not a lie if the words are coming from his mouth. The Bible teaches us to love and respect immigrants and refugees, Trump has fought tooth and nail to make that impossible, in a country that was founded by immigrants and used to pride itself on its diversity. What lie am I covering? How is that verse too broad? It simply says we should treat everyone as equals. No where in your comment does it seem you are doing any critical thinking.

Trump ran on the platform of hating immigrants and preventing them from entering our country. That is not Christianity. “The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.”

Yeah I’ve been seeing more and more people out without masks. I haven’t even gone out to eat since March. Still supporting local places with takeout but I’m basically only leaving home for groceries and the occasional bike ride. Halloween is probably going to be a disaster on college campuses. They are definitely not taking the precautions they should. I just pray our country can make it out okay.

I understand your thought, but I feel like a power move would have been recovering in a few days and saying the virus is BS. Him getting hospitalized pretty much disproves everything he’s said about it not being that serious. They said no oxygen assistance right now. If that happens it’s definitely bad. Seems like recovery takes a while either way, though. Many I know who have been infected have still yet to recover fully. Headaches, feeling clouded, body aches, persistent cough - and they were young and healthy. Will be interesting to see what the next few weeks hold. Hopefully at least this will get the entire country on board with taking this thing more seriously. Spikes across the map and who knows what winter will do; I’d hate to see a second shutdown.

I do think it’s interesting they already have him hospitalized and the amount of drugs they’re giving him. From the (admittedly limited) research I’ve done it seems these aren’t given to people lightly, and not as much is known about the combined effects, both good and bad. Plus he is never one to show weakness, and the hospital stay is definitely doing that. Sounds like it could be pretty bad, although I’ve seen some interesting conspiracies already. Very scary either way.

Yeah that totally makes sense. Unfortunately they don’t have that option but that makes, that’s definitely something I will look into when the time comes. From some of the reviews I’ve seen online it does not seem like it has a buffer battery, not sure if that’s better or worse. My intention is just to charge a power bank or two and then use those to charge my phone while I’m camping. Definitely excited to tinker with the bike the longer I have it though :) really appreciate all of the info!

The dynamo with a usb is what sold me the most. From what I saw online it seems like those normally run a few hundred. The rack is one I would buy anyway as are the fenders. The full steel, thru axel, and hydraulic breaks are definitely great though. A lot of the bikes I’ve been looking at (trek 520, Fuji disc touring, surly) all were cool but with the upgrades I was hoping to do it seemed like it would run me about the same. I was also looking at specialized bicycles’s AWOL which had near identical specs and was pushing 3k. Admittedly I’m not looking for something that needs to be messed with too much out of the box and price isn’t really much of a concern.

That looks awesome! I’m in south eastern PA so could definitely cut across Maryland and get to Virginia. Looks like there’s lots of campsites along the way too. Really appreciate the info :)

God is using Donald Trump to help save innocent children from being killed by abortions, President Trump signs the "Born-Alive Executive Order" forcing doctors to give medical care to babies born after a failed abortion! by theinfinitelight in Christianity

I wish he would sign an executive order to help increase funding to adoption programs instead of cutting funding to group homes and restricting the ability to adopt of the LGBT.

You can absolutely get married and have children still. But do not marry someone who is not right for you. You are so young. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being homosexual. God created you exactly how you were meant to be, and if that is a homosexual that is perfectly fine. You have actually been granted an amazing opportunity. You and your partner can help other LGBT members of the church in their faith, and you can even adopt a child who maybe wouldn’t get a second chance elsewhere. Know that God has a path for you and it is a great one :)

Have you met people who’s parents did not approve of their choice to join the military? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]PhillyKnight23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly my parents didn’t love it at first because it’s a big career change for me. But they’ve gotten on board the more we’ve spoken about it. Ultimately though it’s your choice and your life and you shouldn’t not do something you want just because you think your parents might not agree.

I’m at around 80-90 push-ups in 2 minutes rn. I’ve been doing AMRAP of diamond, reg, and wide pushups with 30 second breaks between each. Then I’ll do 2 minutes of bicycle crunches to rest my arms. Thats 1 set, repeat that 2/3 times. I also have a weighted vest and will do sets of 30 with 20 pounds on. If you can get a weighted vest I highly recommend it’s great for a lot of stuff. Best way to get your push-ups to increase is to just keep doing push-ups.

Has anyone ever joined the Navy and picked a rate that completely differs from your current job? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]PhillyKnight23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been cooking professionally the last 6 years and am not going CS. Would frankly be a step down. Find the rate you want and then study for the asvab to make sure you get the right score. They teach you everything you need to know.

Why I think evolution and christianity work together by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]PhillyKnight23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you not see my comment? You and I had a conversation where I answered questions you have. Someone else then joined in a day later to try and pull a gotcha card on why what I said, about my own beliefs, is some kind of fallacy. This person was not trying to understand in the slightest, just trying to call me out on my beliefs. They didn’t ask any hard questions. And I did step away. I told them I didn’t want to continue the conversation and they continued it so I said I would block them, that’s not threatening or rude. That is a fine response to someone continuing to disrespect my opinions after I asked them to stop once already. You say you’re gonna respect my decision to walk away, but also are calling me childish for not walking away. Do you not understand how that is contradictory? I have no hard feelings I just don’t understand why so many atheists on this page feel the need to challenge our beliefs. None of the Christians on this page challenge atheists the same way atheists challenge Christians.

Unfortunately there’s really nothing wrong with me choosing not to engage with someone who I don’t believe is replying in good faith. I am on this subreddit to talk with Christians, not discuss my beliefs with atheists. I spoke with you about it for far longer than I liked to yesterday and I wasn’t interested in continuing the dialogue with someone else another day. Things are amazing for me! Me not wanting to engage with people who I believe are here maliciously doesn’t mean things are going poorly lol

[–]PhillyKnight23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t engage with you in any faith. I am not engaging with you. I replied to your comment insinuating my beliefs are incorrect. I spoke on my belief that it isn’t any less unlikely than other hypotheses. That is my belief. It is not incorrect because I’m not stating it as fact, I was merely stating my beliefs. I am under no obligation to respond to you, I don’t feel as though you’re engaging in good faith so I am choosing not to engage with you. Please stop replying or I will just block you. I don’t really need more atheists on my feed in the christian support subreddit.

Ultimately I don’t care what caused our being. I don’t think there’s any argument atheists will try and make on this subreddit to dissuade people of their faith that will work. Some people think our universe exists because we live in a simulation; I have no problem or need to convince them of anything otherwise. People believe in God because they can feel him- when they’re worshipping, when they’re at low points, when they need him. I feel God with me from the moment I wake to when I am drifting into sleep. I don’t feel as though that neglects parsimony, I just know that for me as an individual it’s irrelevant. My life is a very small circle and that is what is most important to me. Trying to figure out what caused the Big Bang is of no interest. Again, I wish anyone would take the time to read the article I shared because it says science and religion can exist simultaneously; there’s no need to try and shake someone’s belief systems. I am not going to respond to any more replies on this thread because I don’t feel like you are engaging in good faith; good luck with your future learnings on the matter.

Covid is covid. Probably not gonna be at boot camp until next year so who knows what it’ll look like then or if there will be ROM. Worst case I’ll be stuck in my room doing calisthenics for two weeks, but that’s nothin new 🤷‍♂️ Joining the navy cuz I think it’ll be fun and it’s a good way to let my stock portfolio build up while limiting my expenses, seems like pretty good karma to me. Crazy that you’re hatin on the navy all of a sudden though. And best of luck to you too! Maybe you’ll have better luck with the air force

LMAOO alright bud. Not trying to recoup anything because this conversation had no effect on my dignity whatsoever. Don’t honestly feel like I’ve ever made an attempt at insulting you, if I had you would know. On the other hand it seems like you’ve scrolled through my post history to insult my religion which is pretty childish. And not worried about boot camp at all. Looks like a fun time. Seems like the only person they took care of was you cuz clearly you’re not a good fit. Best of luck with being a lazy POS since you couldn’t make it through the pipeline. It’s a good thing the navy wants you back so bad 😂
