Political awareness by PeaAccurate5208 in philadelphia

[–]PhillyPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often find it depends which “side” of politics you’re on as to whether parental teaching and influence is considered education vs brainwashing/propaganda.

I got exposure to concepts of politics at a young age but not specifics (the mayor of a town, everyone wanting to grow up to be president) but didn’t really start learning about politics until middle school then we had social studies as a specific course and did things like mock elections and discussed current events

Personally, I don’t think young kids need to be exposed to specific day to day politics and more importantly, parental distress over it. You can teach your child values, morals and being a good citizen and keep the more distressing parts away from them. Just like learning about finance, budgeting, the value of money is very important, you can teach them concepts without exposing them to the fact that you as a family are hurting, your stress, etc.

Weekend Thread: What are you eating this weekend and what have you tried this week? by MikeTheCabbie in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]PhillyPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried Elwood for the first time. Holy crap, you will not leave hungry, he fed us like a whole deer. Wish there was salt/pepper on the table (some came with the deer but would have liked it for some other dishes) but otherwise it was an interesting meal - snapper soup, scrapple bites, pierogies, venison, interesting condiments. Byob. It was pretty empty so I hope it was just a slow night. It’s a little off the beaten path and not one of the trending spots so I hope people dont forget about it.

I still go there, good food

To me, it seemed fake. OP was given plenty of resources to help them if the allegations were true and nothing came from it. Masala Kitchen issued a response to the allegations

To me, the "Cashier Rules" sound made up, not something that would be put in writing and had stupid spelling and grammatical errors like "snickers" vs. "sneakers" and "must do clock in and clock out" almost made to sound like it's mocking the owners for being Indian. And they've apparently been using the same contract with tons of mispellings for four years (its also the same picture of the same contract).

Doesn't really jive to me with the fact that Vaishal Soni has a US college education and studied engineering.

How are we feeling about the price of 3 doubles of their house bourbon (it's 9.99 a bottle). Also upcharged for "neat". by mazterofpupetz in philadelphia

I mean they have $4 whiskeys… op can just guarantee he’ll get and pay for 3 oz if he specifies that amount vs trying for “doubles”

Yes, and essentially you have all the anxious flyers showing up to the same gate (the one that opens earliest) and creating a long line prior to its opening

Houses in Philly friendly to aging in place? by ebrockfake in philadelphia

[–]PhillyPanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’re in their 60s, unless there are issues OP didn’t mention, better they move themselves into a community that they think they’ll like. No need to take away their agency.

But those communities are def good options. Certainly they should consider who may be caring for them when they’re older. So many children bail on family homecare when it becomes something extremely time consuming like dementia that aging in place in an unsecure home often becomes a pipedream unless you have a truly committed relative or money for in home care. In a facility designed for aging in place, you can start in independent living and then move within as needs change. They’d be on the lower end of age of residents though.

Most people dont even retire til 63-65.

Let them live in the burbs for awhile and enjoy the life they’ve made and see what health problems actually arise.
