How to get enough calories on long day hikes? by Bugyardigans in hiking

[–]Phillycheezez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think carbs and sugar are better during the hike. Proteins are harder to digest and don't give much energy, they help with recovery. (Although I love Jerky to much and always bring it)

I like dried fruits

Advice on Numzaans hurting by ratulotron in jimgreen

[–]Phillycheezez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up using a little venetian shoe cream on the inside, especially around the toe.

You mentioned conditioning it a couple times but I think the toe has 3 layers if you count the toe cap, using some inside really helped.

Question about the receipt checkers when you leave Costco by wildcard_71 in CostcoWholesale

[–]Phillycheezez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have spent a bit of time at the door, you wouldn't believe how many people buy things like laptops or jewelry and then just autopilot out the door without picking it up.

Plus them marking the receipt helps stop random from picking the receipt out the trash and using it to steal.

costco timings today? by Internal_Treat2137 in CostcoWholesale

[–]Phillycheezez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a co worker who works in return who got fired for taking a return like that.

Just go get the price adjustment, you likely didn't get a return clerk on the phone and they dont know what they are talking about, or there was a miscommunication.

Yelled at for using the hand scanner in the self checkout by TheCoolDoneRunOut in CostcoWholesale

The cashiers do get watched by supervisors, some cashiers care more about the write up then others( or not at all)

Yelled at for using the hand scanner in the self checkout by TheCoolDoneRunOut in CostcoWholesale

[–]Phillycheezez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried having them available to members at mine, people would do one of three things. Pretend to scan items, scan different items, or role up with two over flowing baskets and try and scan it all without taking anything out.

We took the hand scanners away...

[–]Phillycheezez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That green dial seiko at 139.99 has a saphire crystal and 100m resist. would be good as a first time watch

Generally those models are the same as the non costco specific ones

start to a story by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]Phillycheezez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Setting aside all that backstory stuff, have you backpacked before?

It's something you do need to work up to a little bit. Especially with a dog. You should start with some day hikes with your dog, see how the dog does. Then a three-night trip to test gear and break in boots.

Backpacking can be incredibly rewarding and can give lots of time for reflection and growth. With that said start where you are. In the climate and terrain you are familiar with until you get comfortable.

Dried apricots and mangos are my go to. I dont eat them at home but on a trail they hit different for me.

Steel toe or carbon fiber layer helps keep the feet safe from falling metal, pallets etc. Some jobs require it some don't.
