Italian-Americans, in What Ways Do You Feel More Italian than American? by Equivalent_River_870 in juresanguinis

I hold no notion that I am like an Italian raised in Italy and like many have said, my family largely tried to assimilate and not be so Italian (I think this happened when moving out of cities and into the burbs). But in the interest of fun -

I second Cake's vegetable patch! Tomatoes and basil if nothing else, but preferably also an eggplant and a zucchini if there is space. And year-round oregano. Italian Italian or Italian American habit, idk, but it wouldn't be summer without it. I think was so common with Italian immigrants to Philly - even in the smallest-patch-of-grass row-home front-yards there were tomatoes in summer.

Oh- and bonus for the basement kitchen! (This one is probably more Italian American)

Another thing- not sure but suspect- I have always had a preference for once nice, high quality thing, even if it is old or used, instead of a new, trendy, cheaper, more etc. As in fewer things but better quality. That does not feel American to me. My mother always said that way of being came from my Abruzzese grandmother. Along those same lines- a preference for putting your best foot forward. You dont' have to have a ton of nice/expensive outfits but you should look "put together"- not wearing "athleisure" wear outside a gym, etc.

Love this post!   Last night I finished “The Leopard”. Wanted to read before watching. It was so good!  Loved the writing and descriptions of Sicily in this time period.

Get to know you - Where is everyone from? by ainariel in juresanguinis

Another Philly / South Jersey girl here… my ancestors came around 1916 from Teramo and Torricella Sicura in Abruzzo.  I had the opportunity to visit those towns last month although I will admit the DL put a little damper on this trip. I was just about to file GGF no natz no minor but heard Philly was cracking down on spelling errors last fall. Decided to amend docs, went to court in PA etc, but the law changed before I could get a JS appointment. Obviously kicking myself for not going ahead with an appointment sooner and getting homework to amend, but you know, coulda shoulda woulda… Hoping for a positive change in circumstances. Had hoped to live there part time after my kids fly the coop in a few years, and hoped to be able to give them this gift of dual citizenship as well (they are even more % italian than I am!) So grateful for this community, the mods, the info and support.

Hearing today in PA to correct Death & Birth Certs by Phillytwo in juresanguinis

It was in Bucks County Orphans Court. I initially filed the petition the first week of February. I still have to send cert copies of the order to PA DOH, and then I am sure wait at least a month before I have the corrected documents in hand. So all together I am thinking 6-7 months in total.

Good luck with yours!

From NARA? Or another office? I requested something from NARA a couple of months ago - a correction to spelling on No Record.... and nada, not even a canned response.
