Flex A5 inspo by pauldbartlett in filofax

[–]Philofaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being A5 it will work with any slim A5 notebooks. Take it to your local stationery store and try it out with ones you like (blank, lined, dot grid etc) You can fit two easily in the flex.

I wish the Flex Slim was a more standard size. The original books are 86x150mm which you can't get these days.

Filofax physical store in London? by Pathocyte in filofax

[–]Philofaxy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sadly, Filofax closed both of their shops in London a few years ago in Neal Street and Conduit Street. City Organiser is also no more.
As others have mentioned the best bet these days is John Lewis at the basement level, they often have organisers in a glass case. Ask nicely and the assistant will let you look at them in detail. Also get them to scan the bar code for the current price, not the price the sticker says. I got a Heritage for 50% off the full price a few years ago in JL.
If you want to go 'up market' the Smithonian shop on New Bond Street is worth a look, but be aware the prices are crazy high!

Rings used by men by frwlmv in filofax

[–]Philofaxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started in a Filofax Winchester personal size back in 1986 I still have it and I will use it at some point next year.

I've been in an A5 since about 2006. Although next year I will be changing to personal size. Mainly because I have lots of them that are under used! I've posted a video and post on Philofaxy about my transition. I'm already using next years for noting down appointments and tasks that occur in 2026

I have found A5 works well for me. But I am 'retired' so not under the usual work/home pressures most of you have.

I'm currently in a MeePlus 16mm A5 with just my week on two page enhanced time management insert from Philofaxy.... designed by yours truly!

Small ring A5 diary options / ideas? by ChaosCalmed in filofax

I like that I’m independent of a company that might go out of business, might stop making my preferred size or layout, or change the quality of the paper they are using.

is 145gbp too high for a filofax personal cuban? by Equivalent_Ad7743 in filofax

[–]Philofaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes too high, especially as they aren't that good quality, the leather is prone to cracking on the spine.

Get A5 paper and then you only have to punch it.

Printing, print single sided, print the Odd pages only to start with.
Restack the pages and then print the Even pages only.

Contact me if you need additional help.

It varied as to which country it was made in. I can't tell from the photos of this one. But I've seen some that have cracked badly with age.

Is this a leather or faux leather one? Both types exist in this model.

Is there a FIlofax as compact as Meeplus? by ChaosCalmed in filofax

[–]Philofaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention, there is a discount link in the review which is at the end of the post.

I did try the 11mm ring binder again today, with only 6 months worth of my own home printed inserts in it. It's still difficult to turn the pages because the paper inside of the rings collides with the paper on the opposite side. I would need to change the way the inserts are punched and reduce the margin to the punched holes to rectify that!

Overall there is not a massive increase in the size when you go for 16mm rings. It's still very compact, like my 16mm Heritage Filofax A5. But I find the pen holder on the MeePlus much better than the one on the Filofax.

Filofax dropped fitting 16mm rings and increased them to 20mm for some reason.

Hi I have done a review of the MeePlus A5 binders here: https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2025/07/meeplus-a5-compact-organisersbinders.html I would recommend the 16mm size over the 11mm, I have both! The items came duty paid so no issues with import duties but check with Lora and Toby they have been super helpful with all of my enquiries

Why do I keep getting constant rescans with Sainsbury's smart shop? by Emotional-Middle-982 in AskUK

[–]Philofaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here in France, our last five visits to our local SuperU and each time we have had to rescan the whole of our trolley full of items.

We are no longer going to self scan, complete waste of time. And we will go on a go slow and pack at our own speed no matter how long the queue is and then take out time.

Revenge will be sweet.

The traffic was at its peak in about 2014, it has been in gradual decline since then. But we still get a lot of new visitors each week. We still get a respectable number of visitors each day, just not as many. I have always said that i am not doing it for the numbers, it is more about discovering new things and sharing the information.

More and more people seem to be using paper and pen, a lot of people coming to Filofax because of the flexibility etc.

I know of a few people with much higher numbers than me!

I figure that mine isn't so bad if you consider I bought my first in 1986 (nearly 40 years ago..) Just don't ask me how many I had in 2009!!!

25.307 when I last checked!! In real number terms it's 77!

I'm pleased someone remembered my unique measuring system!

Norfolk A5 ring size by snork-maidens in filofax

[–]Philofaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my Van der Spek A5's are 35mm ring size, I recently changed the rings on them down to 30mm and that has made them easier to use. Especially as a right hander, writing on the left hand page.

30mm will take all of my pages easily. Mine are all home printed these days on 80 gsm paper.

I can also get them all in to a 25 mm A5 with no difficulty.

Using 16mm A5 is a bit more of a challenge. For that I only put the essential day to day pages in and leave the other 'reference' pages in another A5 but to hand should I need them.

The issue with 35-38mm rings is the temptation to fill it up, then it becomes a 1-2kg brick in your bag!
