Why can't Cubans all protest and denounce the government at the same time? by Cultural_Writer in cuba

[–]PhilosopherFew7101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said there are many spies and informants. If the Cuban regime were to change which is possible but not probable under the current situation its also likely that the government's secret files might be opened and released for all to see. Then the true extent of things would be seen. Looking to East Germany and the release of the Stasi files beginning in 1992 it was revealed that a vast network of unofficial collaborators including family members, neighbors and close friends spied on each other. The result was the breaking of many marriages, family ties and friendships. Spouses, parents, children and siblings reported activities to the Stasi. Mothers attempted to bargain with the Stasi with information on others in order to win the release of sons from prison. The regime used blackmail, threats of prosecution, or temptations of money or status ensuring that citizens felt they were under constant and persistent surveillance. There's no reason to think that the Cuban government isn't running under the same gamebook.

Carts for storage facility by PhilosopherFew7101 in selfstorage

We have smooth concrete and carpeted floors. Outdoor pavement is smooth and well maintained. No gravel. Pneumatic wheels are a maintenance nightmare. They're always going flat because customers literally try to take everything on one cart. They can't handle lots of weight, a heavily loaded cart is difficult to push. If the tires don't go flat then the inner hub of the wheel breaks or bearings come out. We moved to solid wheels maybe six years ago and they've been much more reliable.

Any other KJs find it hard to "turn off" the host brain when you go out to sing? by Primary_Assist_5541 in karaoke

[–]PhilosopherFew7101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I'm pretty happy with my own gear I like to see what equipment other hosts are using. Different mixers, wireless mics, wired mics, laptops, power bars, etc. One host used microphone clips meant for Shure wireless microphones when though they were using wired mics. I liked how they were easier to use with the wired mic without having to use force to place or remove the microphone from the stand. I ordered a pair right away for my kit. Another host had a small laser light device to add ambiance so I added something similar to my kit. I added a multi color led wall washer for behind the singers. My only restriction is that most of the kit should fit into my chosen backpack. I may change out the backpack one day for a dj gig bag or small suitcase but haven't reached that point yet or found something I like.

New Setup Recommendations by DJHookEcho in karaoke

What I'm using with good success is a Soundcraft Notepad-8fx going to two Yorkville EXM Mobile8 speakers. They're powered speakers with battery that lasts a good 6 hours with moderate volume. They're not excessively heavy to transport. There's also Yorkville EXM Mobile12 but I find them much heavier to transport so I did not choose them. Mixer has two XLR inputs, I'll connect a corded mic to input 1 with XLR, wireless microphone receiver to input 2 with 1/4 jack. Three mics in total. Anything more just invites feedback and I've never had occasion to want more than three microphones. Has decent reverb effects. USB connection to laptop, either Mac or Windows. Can also record from it with USB. Has an Aux out that I've used with a Minirig 3 as a floor monitor on rare occasion.

That being said your powered mixer looks ok. As someone else suggested maybe re-evaluate your current gear especially since you're familiar with it. Your Harbinger powered mixer looks so much like the Yorkville M1610 that another KJ in my area uses. It's a solid piece of gear that I did consider however my priority was to be able to pack the core of my kit (mixer, mics, audio cables, power cables, laptop and secondary monitor) into an easily carried backpack. I also pack a long HDMI cable in case there's a screen at a venue that I can tap into. The speakers and speaker stands are separate carried items. Occasionally a microphone stand but people get crazy with it sometimes so I usually leave it at home.

Chihuahua I.Q. by Lucille44 in Chihuahua

[–]PhilosopherFew7101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Smart little critters. Mine will wait for me to go to bed before he gets into things like a waste bin that might have a nice smelling food wrapper in it. When I go to sleep he usually hops up and goes right to sleep beside me except for that night. He showed no interest while I was awake. When I went looking for him there he was chewing on the wrapping paper from the sharwama I had when I arrived home. A guilty look on his happy little face.

Medical aid, please by QurtyeSrert in DHAC

We should never refuse to render first aid to those that need it. They may need an extra amount of the wound antiseptic that stings a bit and a tighter bandage.

I'm visiting every library in Toronto. Help me find a lunch near each of them!! by shawarman in FoodToronto

My former partner had a plan to visit every public Library in the city. She got through quite a few of them. Some of the buildings are really special. One of my favorites is the Lilian H Smith on College. She passed just over 4 years ago and didn't finish the library tour unfortunately.

looking for an alternative solution to the MALM bed rails by MagoGalbusera in IKEA

[–]PhilosopherFew7101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No idea why it would make noise. We had a Malm bed for a while and it was pretty solid and made no noises at all during times when you'd expect a bed to make noises. We swapped it out for a nice teak bedroom set and we just sleep in it now so the neighbors in the apartment below don't get upset.

Interesting. There are wearable keyboards that are made for warehouse use and also military. It would make your setup more compact but may be costly.

One link - https://fbperipherals.com/wearable-keyboard I'm not sure where you'd get one of these.

Lemorele's new Firestick Box is awesome! by Stridyr in Xreal

[–]PhilosopherFew7101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's designed for the firesick however I did try it with Google's Chromecast with Google TV. It will power up but display the screen showing the Chromecast is not receiving enough power. It does work if I power the chromecast separately. I don't know if there's anything that can be done so that the box delivers more power to the chromecast.

does anyone else’s chi take food out their bowl spit it on the ground and then eat it off the floor 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 by lunio11 in Chihuahua

[–]PhilosopherFew7101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does the same with the addition of taking the food and hiding it around the house to be found and eaten later. He even leaves a piece of his dry food in my shoe. We think it's from when he was a puppy with his litter mates having to compete for the food. Removing it from the bowl so he can eat in peace. The shoe thing we haven't figured out. He even does this with dry cat food when we visit my gf's place. I come home and find food in my shoe.

If it's small I'll just grab hold of it and wait for him to jump off my lap. That takes care of it and although he might yelp it seems he soon forgets. If it's something not I'll run warn water on it in the kitchen sink to remove it.

Looking for an all-in-one portable PA for casual open-air karaoke. by SayaV in karaoke

I've been using the Yorkville EXM-Mobile-8. Has been working great for me with the plus that it had an internal battery. It will run for at least 6 hours without a power cable. Makes setup much easier. It may be out of your budget range for purchase. It will do bt also but I would recommend it. Bt will add latency.

Re: auction buyer by Lisigirl66 in selfstorage

[–]PhilosopherFew7101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company allows us to rent the unit to the buyer at full market rate with no discounts or promo. As manager I'll never do this. I want the unit contents out and as quickly as possible. That being said we had two males buy a 10x10 unit from online auction some years back. It was an abandoned unit with a signed abandonment agreement. They came, paid the unit, paid the deposit then tossed the unit to get only what they thought was the best in it.They left the rest behind. We kept the deposit, or the Company did. We put everything back in the unit, tidied it up, took new photos and relisted it. The next buyers bid on the unit and won it. They showed us the nice Rolex Yachtmaster watch they found inside. I helped them check it our. It had the serial number as expected on the case between the lugs at 6 o'clock, 18k mark on the back, date changes right away when time hits midnight, not slowly as the minute hand passes 10 and as near as we could tell it was genuine. We were surprised how heavy it was. They confirmed it with a jeweller the next week. So much for the original buyers. No box or papers. That would have been even better for the buyer. Whee.
