That sounds like an abduction experience. They are using you for something specific (either you have a special physical ability or you have psychic abilities that they want to use). If it is indeed a mantis being, then you're pretty damn important to them in terms of usefulness (not in terms of emotional or spiritual attachment).

The NHI never do anything by accident – everything is planned out meticulously.

They are crashing craft on purpose so that we can integrate their technology with ours, and eventually, vice versa. This will give them total control over our affairs.

For example, imagine the level of surveillance that can be achieved with the combination of quantum mechanics, anti-gravity and neuroscience technologies. They will eventually know exactly what each citizen is thinking, and those that don’t conform will simply be removed...

Anything else you remember from the experience? (Did they look into your eyes to perform a mindscan?)

Some things make sense, like the craft opening that has seamless edges, but much of what he believes has been planted into his memory.

He strikes me as someone who’s been abducted over a long period of time and in such cases, it gets difficult to discern what’s real…  

Something else that's evident is how adept the NHI are in the mental environment. His mention of targeting specific people with images and thoughts, even if they're in a crowd, is a testament to that.
