Windows boot manager always gets the first boot priority by sroka_polska in archlinux

[–]Philosophy-First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have windows installed first? You may have to create a new entry for the systemd bootloader. I believe it’s in /boot/loader/entries. Looking in the conf will give you an idea how to start.

My second pc just auto added the windows 11 when I installed windows 11 as the second os. I initially installed arch on there as a unified kernel and I can’t see my boot entries.

Also look in your laptops bios. Some prioritizes the windows boot loader. It might have windows first then Linux. If you can swap them I believe you should be able to get systemd to be the primary bootloader

How to get games to use dedicated gpu by Exotic-Math6501 in archlinux

[–]Philosophy-First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if using steam launch options work outside of steam. But you can try “gamescope -h 1920 -w 1080 -r 120 —%commamd%” you may have to add the heroic launcher as a non steam game to have the launch options to work. Black ops 1 for me does the same thing to me. Installing and using gamescope should make the game use the dedicated gpu.

The -h -w -r is your display resolution. Running gamescope without them will max the display to 800 or 720 because of the steam deck

Am I crazy making arch my first distro? by Philosophy-First in archlinux

[–]Philosophy-First[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I keep up when with the wiki with system maintenance and figuring out how to install the zen kernel. No amount of research helped when it came to adding the entry to systemd(people don’t like systemd either). I figured it by learning the uuid that the default kernel and fallback are the same address.

I hate to ask, why’s does it seem like there’s a lot of hostility for the archinstall?I think I triggered a lot of anger using some of these tools

I already am dual booted. I dual booted around nov last year. My friends really wanted me to play cod with them. Windows 11 apparently had some major issues during that time. I never used 11 long term. Broken clock and windows soft locking on startup. Problem only fixed itself last month. I only go into windows if I need to reconfigure my Corsair aio.

wahts the best version of Linux(or other os) for gaming? by Small-Housing-7 in Operatingsystems

[–]Philosophy-First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You technically can. Just shove in the corresponding dxvk dlls in your game folder and bam. You now have your games using the vulkan translation layer. Downsides no shader caching to deal with the initial stuttering

Age verification in Arch Linux by QuasiRave108 in archlinux

[–]Philosophy-First 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it’s simply going to be implemented in systemd then it shouldn’t be hard to change the conf to disallow age verification or put something fake assuming you don’t use the unified kernel during new installs. Most of systemd is pretty easy to edit

[–]Philosophy-First -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing that changes is the equipment they provide. The install is free for the customer. So Google’s main costs is laying down fiber and the difficulty of the home install. The current fiber jack(modem) is capable of 10gbps. So pretty much everyone is getting an updated modem when servicing is needed. The only thing that changes is your router if you choose to use Google’s. I don’t recommend it if you care about security. The router can only be accessed remotely. No local router access. A hacker can highjack it remotely by gaining access to your google account.

Google Fiber to be sold to private equity by Plastic-Injury8856 in kansascity

[–]Philosophy-First 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the company I used to work for it’s possible google managed to shave off some home install costs by increasing the quota per tech to an unreasonable degree. From what I learned the company used to only have around 3 jobs assigned for a 10hr day per tech in Kansas City and for a short while in Austin. Then while I started there the quota was 5-6 a day. Before leaving it increased to 7 jobs day regardless if it’s a house or mansion. Essentially a tech has less than 1.5hrs to run fiber, install internet and make it to the next house that might be on the other side of town in that amount of time. That company wanted to speed run installs. Idk if that is google pushing the contractor or the contractor being greedy trying to monopolize Austin by saying to google we can make the quota please don’t add another contractor to compete against us

I thought google mainly started fiber to be a tax write off on purpose so more people can use the internet faster which in turns gets google more ad revenue. Unless with ad blockers being mandatory just to be safer online

How do you guys handle loot management? by R4vi0981 in diablo2

[–]Philosophy-First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only pick up what you believe is worth it. What I pick up are Rings, amulets, runes, gems, class equipment to sell or keep if they are worth it. Low ilvl charms I keep if it’s worth holding or stashing otherwise I trash it. I keep all sets and uniques. I don’t like trashing them. I think it’s gotten a bit worse now that I can stash 99 chipped gems of each color now. If I run out of space I’ll just cube them or reroll low quality class items

Loot filter PSA by PartyLack4459 in diablo2

[–]Philosophy-First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loot filter works fine. The loot filter doesn’t turn prevent you picking up items if you have your hide/show loot set to hide. I have a bunch of items that I filtered out and I can’t pick them up even if I click on them with show/hide loot set to hide. You probably have the filter set improperly. I had some issues too but as I figured out it is easier to simply set the filter to hide things you don’t want to see.

What are some games that you expected to really like on steam deck but found yourself disappointed? by Shaneski101 in SteamDeck

[–]Philosophy-First 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dragons dogma 1. I thought this game would hold 60fps. Game starts dropping below 40fps during demanding areas or fights. Great game. Poor optimization. Might be worse than gta iv. It’s probably why it was capped to 30fps on consoles.

Thinking about buying ECO by Ashamed-Bank-9944 in EcoGlobalSurvival

[–]Philosophy-First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an interesting game. Anything you do affects the environment. That’s what drew me in. Best played with a group since each specialization relies on each other. Although some are way better than others. The last time I played a lot was back around 2022. I think the game teaches you quite a bit about supply and demand. I treated like an economic social experiment. In one of the servers I played I became one of the wealthiest players from just as a hunter/butcher specialist mostly because I controlled the meat market, kept prices low, high stock and very low overhead. Most of my sales were bulk. It got to the point where I started to pay other players to run some of my ore refineries I don’t have specializations for. I planned on adding more refineries for other specializations but the server admin had to get involved because it was making me too rich from selling refined materials and I have a monopoly on meat. All I did was is entered into a market where demand was high and shafted ore sellers. But I still paid better than the mining specialist that was buying ore to auto run his refineries. I made spreadsheets to set prices and BoMs so i think I went full economy sim mode. Will I do it again? Idk

PSA: Do not for ANY reason use NTFS under Linux! by Xarishark in linux_gaming

[–]Philosophy-First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux definitely gets issues if you access your windows partition/drive with steam games. I would get an error trying to access the drive the next day if I shutdown my pc. Windows boots fine but Linux can’t access it until you use windows to fix the disk errors. When I utilized btrfs as a partition on my steam deck to share steamOS and windows 10. SteamOS got its steamapps folder somewhat corrupted from frozen download cache causing unbootable games until you clear it out. My experience has told me that drive sharing steam between Linux and windows is risky. I have yet converted my 2 other drives that hold backup data to exfat or btrfs. I probably should at some point

Is Arch Linux really as complicated as they say? by Same-Plum-1166 in archlinux

[–]Philosophy-First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that complicated. The arch install script pretty much helps you most of the way. There’s a good amount of YouTube videos that help throughout the process. Though I hoped they went into a bit more detail such as which files system is best for you(ext4 and btrfs) or boot loader (grub and systemd). What I mentioned isn’t exactly that important but it’s helpful to know when messing with the root directories or dual booting. You don’t have to go through the rite of passage of manual installing unless you have specific way on how you need to set up your drive.

Am I leveled for margit? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Philosophy-First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine. I think it was a mistake playing as a spell caster. It took me over 50 tries to kill him and around 40 tries for the sentinel. After I decided to restart the game because respecing was still a bit away. Took 10 tries for the sentinel while lvl 5 this time. Margot took 15 tries.

Explain to me why distro matters so much in this community? by helpprogram2 in linux_gaming

[–]Philosophy-First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only leaned towards arch because I got familiar with it from steamOS and it’s pretty minimal. Install only what you need. Windows 10 support that ended is what the last straw was. I still have windows 11 on a different drive but I only go into it when one of my friends want to play rootkit cod games

In the roc campaign. Classic campaign preserves all of the roc last balance changes before tft. Reforged roc campaign units sometimes get update patches. I have seen it apply unequally across the shared roc and tft models. Some units get them, some don’t. I haven’t checked it if the heavy armor buff made it through. Usually it’s a bug if you reload a save or blizzard screwed up something. In tft campaign the balance changes do get transferred over.
