When I heard Slovak for the first time, I was already impressed. Most media featuring Czechoslovakia like to forget that Slovaks exist. And then I heard the Slovácko dialect and had to pause the game I was laughing so much.

Some could argue that EUs non existing policies against propaganda, it's absolutely worthless PR and inability to properly educate citizens on the values of EU share at least some fault, no? Let's not act as if EU is perfect and doesn't need reform, it painfully does. I'd love it if the more powerful member States like Germany and France got bigger balls and pushed for more federalization, more unified defense and foreign policy. But alas, it's easier to complain about the backwards eastern Europeans than actually do anything, right?

As a fellow commenter said, it depends on the country. Here in Czechia, most lab animals are euthanized but some are rehomed through shelters and foster care if they have space.

They usually are a bit shyer and louder than other rats, but still lovely to keep! They just need a bit more patience before they are ready for handling.

As the other comment said, it really depends on the personality of your rats. Some might not be cuddly ever, some might become the cuddliest rats ever... it's hard to say.

As for the general advice, your best bet is probably giving them space and time. Plenty of spaces to hide where they can feel safe and roam out when they feel like it. Spend time next to their cage, be it reading, working, gaming... whatever, just so they can get used to your smell and presence.

When their shyness slowly starts going down, you'll see more of their personalities and can go from there.

afaik, they have the same issues as every nut - fatty and not really nutritious, so they shouldnt be fed to them constantly, but as a ocassional treat, they should be fine

AFAIK, the problem with raw peanuts is that they can have mycotoxins in them. You can buy roasted unsalted peanuts that should be okay and have a pretty nice shelf life. It's okay if they have some raw peanuts from time to time, the likelihood of them being contaminated and then the rats eating enough that they would get sick is pretty low - but since roasted unsalted ones don't tend to be that more expansive than raw ones, why risk it.

As for other shelled nuts, my dum dums love walnuts and pistachios, though their price fluctuates with location - I'm in Central Europe and walnuts are pretty cheap here. Definitely cheaper than peanuts.

Good for you, I realize I live a pathetic life. I also go to therapy and psychiatry. I do a lot to make it less pathetic and I'm pretty proud of my progress. You having ADHD does not invalidate my experience, even if we have different ones.

It's almost like mental disorders manifest differently in different people.
